It’s crap you’re are not playing but awesome you have stepped up to coach.

Not enough people put their hand up.

Congrats on the win and good luck for the season ahead.

As for my kids I am a tough bastard but always fair......my oldest son has the ability and mongrel to succeed.

I told him his positioning today was excellent.....hard to teach that.

Team sport is such a wonderful learning experience for kids and adults alike.

P.S The opposition had three less players so three of our boys played for them in each quarter.

Our assistant came back to us at the three quarter time huddle and apparently complained that “our kids” had been sledging a “big” boy from the opposition.

He told them all that it was unacceptable and to pull their head in......like I said team football teaches a lot of life lessons.
The sooner you stamp out stuff like that the better......some kids can be very mean sometimes.
Yeah definitely, I’m all about giving back. We are only a small country team so to win the flag was something special.

Hope he gets to put the black and white jumper on one day ;)

Yeah agree about the team sports are vital for kids development in life. Structure, discipline and most importantly imo, friendship. Some of my best mates have come through playing team sport. I know it’s not for everyone but it really does make a difference.

It’s great when number 11 is worn with gusto.

Mark Bayliss would have to be the least of the wearers of 11 that played seniors.
Show bags.

When I think number 11 I dont think of Shane O'Bree (games record holder in the 11 jersey) or Jarryd Blair. For some reason the name that springs to mind is Gerald Betts...who was 19th man in the 1977 Grand Finals!!

Funny how the mind works

Another well known player in 11 was Ken Turner. 170 games for Collingwood including the 1958 Grand Final. Our next flag was not until 1990 and his son Jamie was a premiership player in that game!!!

Ken Turner in 11?
Did not know that.
Very good player.
His son wore 24 ofcourse.

I’ve always thought 11 such an odd number in footy.
Looks good in soccer but in footy not so much.

My kids footy season started today.

Unfortunately my two boys can’t play together this year......so Mum who is the player manager took middle child and I took my oldest boy with daughter in tow.

Oldest boy has number 11 this year he is the smallest and lightest in the team but he plays like Rowdy (Dads very proud of that fact)

Absolutely smashed the opposition (even if you don’t score) and my son kicked a “Daicos Goal” as he told me at quarter time.

He even got three frees because he was in and under and a kid who was 30 kg more than him couldn’t tackle properly.

Number 11 is a good number for my son.....Blairy would have been proud of his
performance today.......Dad was :)
Your wife is player/manager?! She must be very young.

I didnt know that either. Had to look it up.

Little known fact we can link every single premiership through bloodlines...either the same player winning a second or third premiership or his brother/son/nephew winning the next one. Even with some significant year gaps. I doubt any other club can claim that.

Currently we have two Browns and a Daicos to continue that tradition, as well as of course our remaining 2010 Premiership players. Moore ineligible as his old man wasnt lucky enough to win one.

Amazing stat.
Ofcourse all of St Kilda’s premierships is linked by the same 20 players ;)

Sorry meant team manager.

She is actually team manager coordinator for the whole Club also. ....as for being very young I am her toy boy so I keep her young:p

Mate, I was team manager for 3 years and it’s a tough gig. Some days I was umpire escort, interchange steward and keeping track of goals, etc.

Danny Ricc-what an absolute bloody legend!!
But we already knew that.
Still, from blowing a turbo, then finding the new engine in the box was not complete, from being two minutes away from not even entering qualifying, to winning from 6th place......with some of the best overtaking moves you will ever see, fanbloodytastic.

Every time I read that 'if we can get over the next X games, we have an easy draw', I get annoyed. I don't believe that we really do as every team that goes up against us seems to bring their best. I only see Brisbane as an easy game and even last year they took it up to us. I am sure (hope) the players and coaches don't see it that way.

Agree Maggie5......although the Friday night win was probably our Clubs best win for a long time I am not getting carried away like most.

The Anzacday game will be a true test for me.

Draws are irrelevant. We had the hardest draw ever in 2010 and that worked out ok.

Amazing how a few people can change a clubs fortunes.

On field, Sam Murray and Jaidyn Stephenson suddenly give the team some life
Off field, Gary Hocking and Nick Maxwell have given the club experience poise and composure (and maybe even some game day planning).

May it continue!!
I think they add to the overall body of work.
Don't discount the work of Longmure with our defence either

Nah.

Given we will have played Richmond Adelaide GWS in the first six rounds as well as the unkillable Hawthorn and the always tough to beat Essendon on ANZAC Day, its fair to say the draw gets easier after that. No question.

You think teams like Melbourne, West Coast, Fre, WB and Gold Coast don't lift when they play us?
Okay then.

The more we win the easier the draw.

The more we lose the harder the draw.

The coaches will not think any games are easy, but wether the players get ahead of themselves is another question. The saying, one game at a time is a over used saying, but to us it really needs to be one week at a time.
