It looks like the old members stand to me, it was pulled down for the Sherrin stand I think.
That photo looks a bit "touched up" though... the B+W photos from the late 40's early 50's were often superimposed one on top of another so maybe the Stand photo was taken earlier and Bobby superimposed in front of it? He looks about 20-21 there but I'd only be guessing.

Ahhh....geez I wish we had him now!
Just having a guess.
Photo is old sepia taken with wide aperture, shallow depth of field. Blurry background and sharp subject. Looks legit.
If it was superimposed the background would probably be sharp?
Whatever it is, bloody great shot. I miss those old boys, happy birthday Bobby.

It's meant to be a Charles Boyles photograph. He was/is quite famous and specialised in football photographs.

This website covers his work, and is great for looking at old team photos, pictures of grounds etc.: http://www.boylesfootballphotos.net.au/tiki-index.php

Fast walking smokers annoy me. They overtake you and leave a trail of foul smelling pollution in their wake.

You don’t have that problem in japan. Smoking is only permitted in “smokers areas” and indoors.

Anytime I saw anyone smoking there it was done while in a stationary manner. Was annoying for me at the time as I was, up until 4 weeks ago, a heavy smoker.

Especially annoying when leaving the ground after the footy and walking to station. Big crowds mean you can’t get past them and you’re stuck inhaling their toxic fumes.

Three games to solidify our season.

If you are going to name/tag me in one of your posts, you need to add the 2018-08-08_152326.png before my name otherwise I will miss it as I don't always read your posts.:)

I don't know re.. the first coffee shop was established in the island of Rhodes 400 yrs ago re.. hence the expression.. make me a Turk.. meaning Turkish coffee. I know what you're gonna ask me next.. 'whats that got to do with the price of fish'.. the f if I know re.

Anyone watch 'Shark Tank' last night re.

This lovely female married couple decided to create a business.. tents and s**t right.. Naomi or whatever the frig her name is asks the question.. 'Why are your products different to everyone else's in the market re?'.. one of them well the spokeswoman says ummm ummm 'cause folk like to take photo of these tents and put em on Instagram'.. Naomi goes.. surely to got that's not it! Then the spokeswoman goes to her wife and business partner.. ''help me out here'.. her business partner goes 'ummm I dunno'..

I mean.. how can anyone establish a business and not know the friggen answer to that? 16 mths or some s**t they've been in business. Why would you get into business when you can't answer a fundamental question about your products.. go build a cubby house and sit in it re.. don't go and establish a business when you can't get the basics right re.

Unfbelievable re

You gotta it to Ulysses though re. They don't realise.. but they've probably got their marketing strategy inadvertently down pat re.. the place looks like filth hasn't been upgraded for 40 yrs or whatever.. like an old Greek couples home with the old furniture and s**t they refuse to turf right re.. but that look gives the impression you can walk into the joint and buy some food with your spare change re.. as opposed to going to some restaurant up the road that's all flash and s**t and charges you the earth for a small piece of crap they put a fancy rest name to re.

That's genius right there re.

Onyaaa Ulysses you beautyyyyy!

This is a photograph of Collingwood (VFL) legend Bob Rose photographed on a training night at Victoria Park. Rose is very young here so one can estimate the date of the photo as circa late forties, perhaps not long after his debut with the Magpies in 1946. Rose, from Nyah West, was to become one of the game’s greatest-ever rovers and his memory is revered at Collingwood. He played 152 games and kicked 214 goals for the Magpies from 1946-55. He won the club’s best and fairest award in 1949 and 1951-53, and was runner-up to Bill Hutchison in the 1953 Brownlow Medal. He coached Collingwood from 1964-71 and Footscray 1972-75. Note the same grandstand appears in the background of all four versions of Photo 33, perhaps suggesting the images originated in the same photo session.

The stand in the background is the Members Stand, built c. 1908 (I think), and designed by architect William Pitt. He was a noted architect, designed the Princess Theatre, early grandstands at Caulfield Racecourse, and the Foy & Gibson complex in Collingwood. He was a Pies man, and a councillor and mayor of the City of Collingwood.

The stand was demolished in the late 1960s to make way for the first stage of the Sherrin Stand. The latter was extended in 1978.

Here's a bio of Pitt. It claims he designed the stand free of charge in the early 1890s, but that may have been an earlier stand to the one shown here.

1909 Impressive new grandstand opens, roughly replacing the original grandstand, which is moved further towards the outer pocket.
1966 R. T. Rush Stand opens on the outer wing.
1968 Demolition of the 1909 grandstand.
1969 Opening of the Sherrin Stand.
