i dont know why Fox insist of putting people with vested interests to commentate on games. Garry Lyon is such a downer. Paul Roos does Melb and Sydney and because of their crap seasons, Roos is so damn depressing. Now the same with Lyon. And they infect the whole commentary team.....everyone gets so down with these depressed guys lamenting about "their" team making mistakes.

Get some neutrals in. Get some people who are interested in the game and not just in the fortunes of one of the teams.

Martin Blake, writing for the Age, described Brody Mihocek as "rag-tag". I was a little surprised. The word mean "untidy, disorganized, or incongruously varied in character". How in the world did Blake come up with that? Is he using a program on the net to write his columns?

I would argue that Brody is more the opposite of rag-tag. He is very organised. He has a steady approach to his football and his skills are pretty tidy. He had a period for a few weeks where he got the yips but he's back on target as one of the more reliable kicks in the team.

Blake probably likes his footballers to be more pretty to watch. Someone like the Chad would probably appeal to him. Half-assessed efforts and long periods of nothing. I'll take Brody, Marty...

Basketballer Ben Simmonds was evidently being paid by the Victorian gov't to promote the state, when he complained about racism at the Casino.

Evidently, the gov't is delighted with Simmonds efforts, as it's had a wave of bookings from US white supremacists who want to take their next annual vacation in Melbourne.

Thought:

We had a lot of forwards kick 30+ goals last year.
WHE
Thomas
Dr Goey
Mihochek
Stevo

Cox also kicked quite a few.

This year I'm. It sure how many forwards have kicked over 30. I'm too lazy to look it up. But clearly our forward line is not the same. It's. WHE and Thomas's drop off's have typified the forward line's struggles.

Be it injury, underdone, teams figuring us out, whatever... I'm not sure we can win a flag with a forward line that seems to have forgotten who it is?

Our team last year felt like Doggies 2016 where they had blokes popping up everywhere that we'd barely ever heard of and they'd kicked 30 or 40+ goals for the year (like Tory Dickson, who at the time was a nobody!). But then the following years they went back to struggle street.

Is that where we're at?

I know a lot of our forwards are struggling with injury. But last year we had a lot of injuries too!

I dunno. I wanna have hope that we could compete for a GF, but it feels like the mix isn't quite right this year. I really feel like last year was our year and we missed the opportunity.

EDIT: I'm hoping this post gets quoted at the end of the year when we win the flag! Happy to be wrong here big time! I'll be pumped if that happens!

On the way back from the game I was wondering what a cake walk was. I had no idea it was this .

Good post & I agree.

This year we have shown to be competitive against any side, but we lack that magic energy and spark that existed in 2018. WHE, JDG, and Stevo were on fire and Thomas had his best year for the club. 2019, not so much.

Heard Peter Donegan interviewing Michael Christian on SEN yesterday. Chrisso revealed he sought a trade to St.Kilda at the end of the 1990 season! Reckons he read the tea leaves with the recruitment of Pert and thought it might threaten his position.

Pies would only trade him for a St.Kilda star like Winmar or Loewe so the deal didn't get done.

Interesting little tidbit. Im sure it was a logical conclusion to come to. Would have been big leaving a premiership winning team at the time.

Side note- I listened to Donegan commentate while I was driving cross country yesterday, I rarely listen to radio commentary any more with Foxtel covering all games, and it was just a reminder that he could commentate two flies crawling up a wall and it would be good. Just the best commentator. Nothing fancy, no hysterics or bias, just excellence.

Spot on. And it is never about him. He entertains us with the description of the game rather than delivering his personal comedy stylings. Looking at you BT and Dwwayno.

And the fully prepared and professional Peter Donegan barracks for Collingwood.

All class.

First I've heard of kookaburras new smart cricket ball that record's speed and revolutions but they also hope to have the ability to help the DRS out with the ability to detect edges and even grass touching the ball soon it would be interesting to know if the technology is able to be applied to a sherrin and help the afl goal review system out

The ball wasn’t baptised, so not so good.

I didnt really feel comfortable watching a sport where there's a lot of guys grabbing each other..... and as for scums, there's a quote in the old testament about it but I forget the reference....but it's not good. For all the people at BF who watched it, I'm praying for ya...

Looks like CSI AFL have identified the the culprit in the ANZAC Day President's lunch massacre.
