Doogs' Droogs

Last night the image of Doogs appeared to me in a dream and gave me 10 Doogmandments for his Droogs to follow. I urge my Droogs to follow the Doogmandments. Think of all he has done for us. Forget the Jesus 'died for our sins' things, Doogs has had to spend time in Werribee and Frankston the last couple of weeks!

The 10 Doogmandments
I am Doogs thy God
Thou shalt honour and love me thy God
Thou shalt not have any loveable cult heroes before me
Thou shalt post on Doogs’ Droogs thread reguarly
Remember the day I play and keep it holy
Honour thy Doogs’ Droogs leader Rocco Jones
Thou shalt post in the weekly ‘Ins & Outs’ thread insisting I should play
Thou shalt not listen to Eagles fans when they use my name in vain
Thou shalt buy my badge and wear it proudly to games thy God plays
Thou shalt be apathetic in thy work life.

Lost Dog is back in fold
09 August 2007 Herald Sun
Mike Sheahan

ANDREW McDougall was one of the country's best juniors at 17, taken by West Coast at No. 5 in the 2000 national draft.

The Eagles were so keen on the lanky Perth key forward, they preferred him to Daniel Kerr, taken at No. 18 with their second choice.

A few weeks ago, and still only 24, McDougall's long and steady fall from grace saw him playing in Werribee's reserves team in the VFL.

Despite his natural assets -- he stands 197cm and weighs 95kg -- and the Bulldogs' obvious need for key position players, he simply had lost his way.

Tonight, they will throw him a lifeline, naming him to play against Melbourne at Telstra Dome on Saturday night.

It will be McDougall's third appearance at senior level, his first two producing just 14 possessions and 1.1 at the start of the season.

So, after the best part of seven years in the AFL system, he has a mere 40 games to his name.

Nick Riewoldt, taken at No. 1 in McDougall's draft, has played 130.

Bulldogs' coach Rodney Eade confirmed McDougall's recall last night.

"He's back in on the back of good form rather than us playing someone because we have to.

"His form has been very good for three weeks, and he can play at both ends.

"Hopefully, he can play the rest of the season.

"His confidence levels have been down at times this year. He's been disappointed, but he's never been really dirty or nasty.

"He's a good kid; we've still got fairly high hopes for him."

McDougall was traded to the Western Bulldogs between seasons for what the AFL Guide to 2007 says was draft choice 29 which, according to the Doggies, actually was selection 34.

He had played 38 games with the Eagles in five seasons, 21 of them in 2004 (35 goals).

The Doggies gave him the first two games of the season after his impressive form in the NAB Cup. He struggled in both and has spent the past 16 weeks searching for motivation and direction at Werribee, in the seniors and reserves.

Hard to believe a player of his height and experience could be floundering in the VFL when his AFL club has been crying out for marking power in attack.

His decline was so dramatic, he spent three weeks in Werribee's reserves.

Finally, the Bulldogs' skill acquisition manager Jason Mifsud was able to win him a try in defence and he has steadily regained confidence and form.

McDougall is likely to play forward in the expected absence of skipper Brad Johnson, but also could play back.

Hello muscles ;)

I am so angry right now. Even if Doogs comes in for Johnno, he along with his Droogs deserve prior notice.

You are a rogue Eade. If you don't play Doogs, I will challenge you to a duel.

Rocco, I feel for you and your Doogs odyssey, I really do, but for your own well-being, get out of the house more man!! It's not healthy, look what happened to you last time with Tommy D!!

I would pay to see that.

But seriously, I am really peeved right now. Get it through your head Rocket, WE WANT DOOGS!!!

Yeah I am so up for fighting him (on GameCube).

I will keep Doogs' badge in my pocket just in case he is a late change. The buldge will be easily replaced if he plays.

Doogs is a player man, I mean a real player, but who is Rocco Jones? Are they related? Rocco - is that Mediterranean? That is a cool name - Rocco Jones. You should be playing man. I can just hear Cometti now - "Cooney, out of the centre, handballs wide to a running Ray, looks up and kicks a beautifully weighted pass to Rocco Jones in the pocket. Jones, 45m out, 35-40m angle. Apparently follows a punishing training regime on non-training days, devised by one-time Bulldog Ivan Rassmussen. Lines up now, momentarily distracted by McDougall in the square, comes in - straight through the middle! Looks like they've found a player here the Dogs, I mean a real player".....

Go Rocco... Go the Rass... Go the Dogs... Go-go Gomez!!

That reminds me of a book mother got for me when I was a kid. It was about the Bulldogs taking on a worl all-stars team and had me as the star. It was all 'Wynd wins the tap and directs it to Atkins who handballs to Cameron. He kicks the ball long to JASON. What a star this young JASON is turning out to be'. I'm not sure what I found most unrealistic; that I was an ordinary primary school footy player getting a game for an AFL club, that any 10 year old would be getting a game at the level or that the World All-Stars would be a formidable opponent for an AFL club. But hey, it had my name in it.

It's my favourite book outside of 1984 and the Doug Hawkins one which comically misspells manure in the title.

I'm willing to follow those (even the dodgy Honouring Rocco one, whatever that means).
However if Doogs gets delisted and you start serving Kool Aid and mentioning waiting for a spaceship to take us to to Doogtopia, I'm joining the Sam Power Knockers...mmm Power Knockers.

HAHAHAHAH

Absolute classic.

I have the same book!

Just been thinking about how genius is often not understood in it's own time.
While automaton "consistent" footballers are lauded for their effort week in week out, the artistic temperament of a footballing auteur like the Mack Daddy goes sadly underappreciated. He is weekly, showing us the ups and downs, the travails of life of a man who looks like a superhero but has the same insecurities and feelings of the ordinary common man, although his feelings and thoughts are of a depth that we could not possibly conceive of.
He deserves a place in the team, for sport to collide with art, for men and young girls to understand each others feelings of unadulterated hero worship, for a chance for the world to know true peace, if only for 4 quarters.

With a sadness in my heart.
