doom and gloom

Why do you like to talk about the club collapsing when we lose?

I was just wondering why when we lose a game all of these posts about mergers and moves and financial crap come up?

Are these swing manic depressive? One minute we're over the moon (after a win) the next minute we're extremely doomy and gloomy (after a loss, especially gloomy about fninances)

or are there other factors?

Interesting question, dancingdoggie17. I think it's got something to do with the nature of being a Bulldogs supporter.

Deep down we expect to lose. So when we win (even over lowly teams) we are just so elated and excited that for a moment we are sure we have left losing behind forever.

But only for a moment. Pretty soon we are getting anxious about the next game. Will we win or lose?

Unlike supporters of other teams eg Pies, Blues, Lions, etc, who are supremely confident of victory and genuinely shocked if they lose, the next loss brings Bulldog fans back to the reality of our innate "natural" mindset, ie not being winners.

Throw into the mix: financial problems; membership struggles; talk of players leaving; injuries and reports; sponsorship difficulties; unfavourable media attention.

We are doomed to a perpetual rollercoaster of emotion.

There, have I cheered everyone up?

i just hate it too i just wish we could just get on with playing footy for the year, and put it behind our backs untill the end of the season. see how we have gone then and then start talking about it if we are going down hill from there.

Well I would be more positive if we didn't suck.

My reason for being negative is growing up listening to grunge music. Bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and New Kids on the block made it cool to be depressed (well NKOTB really just made you depressed).

I am depressed purely about off-field financial problems - and things don't change, we'll be gone by 2006.

Most depressing thing is that there is currently no light at the end of the tunnel. I live in Sydney and have seen what has happened to at least 6 rugby league teams disappearing/merging in recent times. The AFL now has a template.....
