They were the ones who set it up in the first place...

** Not defending the UCI, just explaining how it is possible.

So they essentially went "lets find out whats wrong with us" then got a progress report and went "oh shit, we are whats wrong with us, stop this report, we don't like the findings"

This would be far more likely if they hadn't killed the Independent Commission before they'd even had time to set up their offices, far less begin the investigation. I suspect they had 2nd thoughts about what might be discovered and canned it before they had the chance to uncover anything incriminating at all.

Rasmussen comes clean.
The Chicken confesses!!!

ripped from a poster on CN. HL2037

I have translated, as verbatim as possible:
Quote:
I announce that my career as an active rider stops today. The reason for this is that I have chosen to cooperate with the relevant anti doping authorities to assist in cleaning up the sport and solve one of the most serious problems in the sport right now. The relevant authorities in my case are: ADD (Anti Doping Denmark), WADA (World Anti Doping Agency), and also the ADAs of USA and Holland respectively. The consequence of my cooperation with them will be a suspension which I am prepared to recieve.

I have used doping agents and methods in the years 1998 - 2010. It involves EPO, growth hormone, testosterone, DHA (??), insuline, IgF1, cortisone and blood transfusions. What I specifically have used, where, when and how, those informations I have delivered to the anti doping authorities. My agreement with them involves a confidenciality which means that I am not allowed to talk about it today. The time for that might come later.

I realize that I have cheated and that I have lied and I have decieved people and cheated other athletes. I am ready to make amends for this and I am ready to take my punishment for it. At the same time I would like to express my incredibly big gratitude towards Claus and Christina for being part of creating this cycling team but at the same time and most of all the incredibly tough time that both I and my my family have gone through lately.

When I get up and leave this room today it will be as an incredibly relieved man. Then I will no longer have a heavy burden to carry around, as I have done for the last incredibly many years. I am happy that I won't have to sit and lie to you anymore when you ask me about my past. At the same time I would like to express a great gratitude towards all those fans for a fantastic support through many years as an active bikerider and thanks to you for taking the time to be here today.

It's all very well to go after the riders who doped, but the simple fact of the matter is that with 90% of the peleton on the juice, clean riders simply had no chance of success.

What I am much more interested in is seeing these riders provide information about the facilitators - the doctors and team directors who provided them with the drugs and placed pressure upon the riders to use the drugs in the first place. That's what I like about the Armstrong investigation - not only did it take out Armstrong himself, but it's also taken out the Doctor (Ferrari) and Team Director (Bruyneel) as well. Take out the facilitators and I believe that the sport will become relatively clean, relatively quickly. Target the riders alone, leaving the facilitators in place - and all you get is a new generation of doped up riders.

As someone who has a general interest in steroids, but doesn't know much about cycling, what do you guys think about Cadel? He beat the Schlecks the year he won, and wasn't too far off Contador one year IIRC.... Even Wiggins, how is it that there have somehow only been two "clean" winners or whatever it is, when other people they beat are probably on steroids?

Interesting to see that cycling is pretty much copping it for both tennis and soccer in the Puerto case too. Makes you wonder, Spain must feel like they have something to lose if the other names are revealed.

I don't think you'll find too many people around here who believe that Cadel is totally clean. He is/was less blatant in his doping than LA, but he was probably on something. Wiggins & Team UK Postal's performance in last year's tour was the most blatant case of doping since LA in his prime - there is not a snowflake's chance in Hell that they were clean.

blackcat your many posts on drugs in sport often leave me in a state of shock. I am going to be honest about that. The allegations you make about the widespread use of drugs in professional sport I simply find astonishing.

I often wonder how you know so much, whether what you know is all true and leaves me contemplating my thoughts on the use of it in sport...

or match fixing in soccer

want to know about swimming?

tennis?

soccer?

All. Corrupt. To. The. Bone

Is it worth it? Go ask Maxwell how $1m bucks feels

vader's acuity^ to b respected.

Can i ask blackcat/vader will any significant sporting acheivement (think Bolts 100-200 double etc) since 200 have been clean? What about the Kona guys? You seem to know alot about the subject and im starting to think/realise that nothing i have seen in my lifetime has been achieved cleanly...

I sincerely doubt that any record set since the 1960s has been done without pharmaceutical assistance, at least in major sports. That may be just the cynic in me coming through though. It's certainly not based on any specific knowledge or experience.

With the Essendon story blowing up, Lance's dramatic fall and cyclings investigations does anyone think we are seeing a shift in the thinking on PED's? Looks to me like maybe everyone is pulling their heads out of the sand? Or is it all alot of wind?

Nope, there is just a current focus on the issue. Give it 6 mths and everyone will have a new major focus.

Its that time of year when I once again make my way to the cycling thread. To start my comeback off with a bang I would like to share the rumour that I heard over the weekend.

There may be a recent European TdF winner who has failed a biological passport in 2013.

I would not post this but I have heard this from multiple sources and whilst I cannot vouch that it is 100% accurate it may be worth keeping an eye on the news over the next month or so.
