how does one get involved in this - haven't played before or any game similar, seems a bit unforgiving from the comments on here.
It's a game that requires a fair bit of study, so write your first 50 games off before you start. As above, once you find heroes and item combos that you like it's a shitload of fun and addictive as hell.

Can anyone recommend a guide to read through before starting?
I've googled dota 2 guide but seem to just get 1 website or stuff you need to pay for, the wiki seems outdated and more talking about the game rather than strategy.

Cheers for any help.

Also, I get this error when trying to load up from steam "dota\gameinfo.txt is not a valid format", any thoughts on what that's about?

Thanks.

I'm starting to get vile towards my team-mates. I can carry well, but but my team can rarely support for shit. How hard is it for a support to TP without hesitation to a 5-man tower dive on the carry? It's so basic and can easily result in a few counter-kills. Or a NA/BH/WR solo'ing off-lane way past it's due. It drives me nuts, how do these people get into my MMR?

So I'm forcing myself to pick hard supports and try to not last hit anything so some spazz can sit and farm without realising the appropriate times to join team fights to accelerate their farm/prevent a massacre. Normally we win, but not without me leading them by the nose.

Second half of your post is like another language.

But thanks for the links - seems like a bit of work for a game, but from what I've heard it is worth it in the end.

Don't worry, I help out friends learn the game on alt accounts so I can teach them in real-time and nobody knows what I'm talking about until you've played for a while :p

Being a noob playing with other noobs is great fun!

If you want specific hero guides, i used to use www.dotafire.com when i was new. Definitely helped me learn about items and gave me an idea of what works on who

You are in the lowest MMR. The problem with that is, the skill range across that MMR is so broad. They really should split it up and have all the noob/useless/supports who steal last hits + kills in an even lower MMR. I was up at a higher MMR but copped a few losses and have sunk back down into this shit hole one again. 4/5 games are rage worthy, i cry tears of joy when i get a team who aren't semi ******ed. These days i don't even pick a support often, i just pick a mid hero and try to carry my team to victory -_-

Dude if you were in a decent MMR people don't do that shit. The fact that you are playing with people who do that shit suggests you aren't as good as you believe you are (no offence.) The only real way to know if you're in a decent MMR is by the way people play and if you get alot of people watching games you're playing in. They don't have low MMR games up to watch unless someone is specifically watching someone in your game, in which case you won't have many people watching anyway.

I'm not saying you're shit or everyone in that MMR is, you're probably good and at the top end of the lower bracket, but haven't been able to crack into the next tier. Like i said, the first bracket is very broad and has a vast skill range in it, varying from 110% noobs to decent players.

If you wanna show me how good you are bring it on :p

Been doing a lot of reading and it does sound interesting, think at the moment I'd prefer to just play a good single-player game. I've generally wasted 200hrs a year on COD games, so wouldn't mind getting off online games for a while.

But with the amount of anger this game seems to bring I guess if I need a laugh I'll jump on and noob it up and just listen for the rage of team-mates.

So... excuse my dumbness, but i played warcraft 3 Dota constantly. I didnt think the game was released yet? So do i just download it from Value? Or do i need a early Beta pass or something?

Someone else might know more, but I believe the game is still in beta - it's pretty much a full game though, they just don't want millions of people clogging up the servers etc as they're still fixing bugs and what have you.

I'm pretty sure Valve is just making a cash grab by charging people for it - ask around here or whirlpool/gamefaqs etc and I'm pretty sure you can get a free key or steam gift.
