It was in the '80s. They would play 'We are the Navy Blues' over the PA at Princes Park & then follow it up with 'Blue is the Colour'.

I've often wondered whatever happened to the song. It was a catchy tune, but certainly no 'Lily of Laguna'.

Yep i remember it, went something like...

Blue is the colour, football is the game, blah, blah, blah, blah blahhhhhhh.....I do not recall much past the first line but it was quite catchy!! :D

I think the next part was "we're all together, 'cause winning is our aim."

Yes!!!!

We keep workshopping this we may come up with the full song!! It kinda changed key a little after the winning is our aim bit.....

Then in 1994 at princes park they played 'Navy Blue' to the tune of Lou Gramm's 'Midnight Blue'

Chelsea - Blue Is The Colour Lyrics

Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name.

Here at the Bridge, whether rain or fine
We can shine all the time
Home or away, come and see us play
You're welcome any day

Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name

Come to the Shed and we'll welcome you
Wear your blue and see us through
Sing loud and clear until the game is done
Sing Chelsea everyone

Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name.

Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Chelsea, Chelsea is our name.

I was at Stamford Bridge in 1975 watching Chelsea play Sunderland. The atmosphere was great but not the result. The lads lost. I had to wait about a month before I saw Sunderland win. At Roker Park against Plymouth Argyle. I was fascinated by the pre-match chanting and was there with my brother-in-law's brother, who in his thick Geordie accent, was explaining to me the various rituals. At one stage I noticed a bit of movement in the crowd, a bit of a fight had erupted, and was reliably informed that the Plymouth supporters had arrived

I came to the UK originally on holidays in 1995... I arrived on my birthday and my little brother, who was going to drag along my dad, took me to a football match.

It was being played at the Bridge... Chelsea vs Millwall in a FA cup tie.

My little brother is a Millwall supporter (might explain why he decided that he was going to support Richmond) and we were in a makeshift stand. It went to penalties at the end and Millwall won. Man, I have never seen so many bloody cops that night in my life. There were bloody police horses on the pitch as well... at the far end away from where the Millwall supporters were.

My little brother explained to me that if Millwall had lost, they would have been down out of their stand and into the stand on the left... but as it was, the Chelsea fans were ripping up the seats in their own bloody stadium and were throwing the cushions at the volunteers lining the edge of the ground.

Then on the way back to the station, the cops were all linked arm in arm preventing the Millwall fans from getting into the back streets of Chelsea and causing mayhem.

Great welcome to England and to association football.

Brett Ratten
One of the more remarkable aspects of that achievement is that Brett was totally ignored by the field umpires when it came to awarding Brownlow Medal votes. In fact, he earned only a single vote during his first five seasons (in 1991) and a measly 51 over the next eight - at the ridiculously low average of 6.7 votes per season. Perhaps the fact that he was always under the packs had something to do with it!
Brett Ratten

That's a more questionable and little known fact than the maggot who didn't award Williams a vote. Ratten didn't poll a single Brownlow vote after winning the B & F in a premiership year.

I would give my eye teeth for another Brett Ratten and Fraser Brown with picks 13 and 39. Great midfield combination after Williams spent more time forward in 1995.

I don't remember it being played at games, but I certainly know the song as it was on a tape sent to members in 1990/91 as part of the "Re-birth of the Blues' campaign. There was also a song about dwindling membership post the '87 flag that featured the classic line, "...but so many members were lost". It was all very dramatic and unnecessary.

Have always wondered how good gags was? All interviews I have heard past players say he was very good.
Also has anyone heard one player from the early 70's say that when the team was down at half time they didn't need much motivation to lift and get the W, coz if they lost they all knew how hard training would be the next week. All the motivation that was needed

My brother and I used to love standing behind the goals at the Heatley Stand End.
It was there that it really hit home the diverse ethnic backgrounds of Carlton supporters. Really made us feel at home. We used to call it 'The Multicultural Section'.
The Lebos idolized 'The Cranium', the Italians had SOS as their hero, and us Greeks, well Kouta and Ang were it and a bit as far as we were concerned. The only time my father, who didn't give a stuff about footy, would enquire about our games back then was to ask how Kouta and Ang played. And he'd refer to them in their surnames pronounced the Greek way lol.
