Standing on the wing, in front of what was then the Hawthorn Stand (where I always stood at Princes Park). It was an amazing mark & the crowd were buzzing (no pun intended) for several minutes afterwards. The only disappointment was having to wait until I got home to see it again on The Big Replay & then The Winners, whose initial commentary of the mark called it as McConville & then at the end of the program, when showing the Mark of the Day, had dubbed the commentary to pronounce Bosustow as taking the mark.

We must have been near each other. I always sat on the wing on the only row of seats on the fence. I got there as the gates were opening so we raced to get our seats. I was there on the wing when Buzz took the mark, i was also at VFL Park in the final sitting behind the goals at the other end when he kicked that goal.

I was also sitting in my usual seat on the wing when Malcolm Blight kicked THAT goal after the siren.
I had a perfect view of it sailing through the goals.:(

I used to stand on about the 4th or 5th tier of the terrace, lined up with the centre circle. I always got there before the gates opened so I could guarantee getting to the same spot & also it was a chance to see the full reserves game as well.

Where was everyone when Buzz took the mark of the year in the goal square ? I was at that end of the social club stand with a close-up view. One of my all-time favourite Carlton moments along with his steal at Waverley. 1981 what a great year.
I was sitting with my soon to be wife. The terrace of the Social Club with a perfect side on view of the grab. Who was the Geelong player underneath? I'm thinking the ruckman Mossop. It'd be even better if it Jumpin' Jack Hawkins :D

At the other end of the Heatley, the change rooms. When I first wandered in there it was an open space with the lockers along the wall nearest the park. Naturally, navy blue, with numbers and names. As an 11 year old I was awe struck. At 14, the u19 coach, Bill Hoogan, invited me to have a training run. I jumped at it and trained with the boys for a couple of months. I remember Curly Austin was there and making his way to the seniors. As a very skinny 16 year old, I was invited on a permanent basis. At this stage, the locker room was enclosed. Another room I was familiar with was the physio's room. I remember being in there getting treatment on an ankle. Me on one table, Mike Fitzpatrick on the other. It must have been a hammy. He was reading 'The Age', what else! I suspect it was the Finance Section. The showers and baths were huge, the hot water worked and you didn't have to fight for a shower. We trained on the ground outside, no. 2 oval but often shared the rooms with the senior boys. Pranks were common. Having a nice hot shower could be interrupted by a bucket of cold water, Jezza :), a loud explosion courtesy of a penny bunger and Percy Jones was laughing his head off :D, you had to act cool but there was Big Nick, Doully, Wallsy etc. Change rooms for me were always a special place. Match days, training days it didn't matter. That I was lucky enough to share some time with my heroes still makes me smile. In 1975, due to problems with the coach, I left and joined North Melbourne and mixed with a few of their champs in their first premiership year. It's funny but I don't remember a great deal about that experience. I suppose, as the adage goes, you could take the Blue Boy out of Carlton but you couldn't take Carlton out of the Blue Boy

Ah this is awesome, well done again Robbo, fantastic post.

We are slowly but surely peeling back the layers, Robbo is drip feeding us but I reckon shortly it will be exposed that Robbo is none other than Brent Crosswell!! :thumbsu:

How good were the reserves games? Nowadays I have to be honest and say I could not really care less if the Northern Blues win or lose but back then you were as passionate about the reserves as the seniors. The atmosphere around three quarter time in the two's was great, the big crowd starting to reach it's capacity and there was a genuine buzz and interest in the result!!

Happy days! :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Magro cleaned up Jezza only about 20 metres from where i was sitting.

To this day it is the ugliest reaction from a crowd I have ever witnessed. Closest thing to seeing someone kill Bambi ever!!

When some of those reserves games were close in the last quarter the growing crowd used to get right into the game. For some players it was probably the best crowd atmosphere they experienced.

I must admit I was scared that day. Fights were breaking out everywhere in the crowd & I even saw a couple of blokes who were watching the game together (one a Carlton supporter & the other a Collingwood supporter) start throwing punches at each other.

I was at both games and for mine the Magro reaction was guttural. It was also a massive crowd that day, am I right in saying well over 40,000??

The crowd reaction to Milburn knocking our SOS was pretty bad.

I am still going to slap him if I ever see him in Adelaide.

That is the most full-on crowd reaction I have seen/heard. Not to mention Murphy having a go at the prick

Didnt Barb have a go at him in the car park?

...of all that happened in the aftermath of that incident this would be the one that still haunts Milburn!!

I saw Mighty Blighty's kick from the Social Club. I swear, if you look closely, you can see my footy record flying in the direction of the ball when I realised it was going through for a goal.

The Jezza shirtfront was another memorable day. There have been some good ones over the years but Jezza's is right up there. A Collingwood supporter was sitting in the Social Club and his reaction fired me up and I was ready to jump some seats to get at him. A couple of old Italian guys in front of me decided to help me out, I resumed my seat, and watched them go to work. I remember reading the paper on the Monday morning and it was great journalism. Jezza's been stretchered off and he's still in the medical room when the boys came in at half time. He summoned a selected few to his side to deliver a message about winning the game. Stirring stuff. My recollection of that day was Marcou going down in the second half and that proved the final straw for the boys. I know Doully got really fired up in the melee that followed.

Milburn was a knob.

...just checked, it was 46,106. Huge roll up for Princes Park!

Late 70's early 80's we'd regularly get 40k crowds. Reckon we got 43k for the Essendon game in '79, there were so many people there they let them on the ground at half time for a leg stretch.

Robert Muir going nuts, i was sitting in the Social Club.
Cant remember which umpire it was, someone will remember.
Another memory against St Kilda was Dennis Collins getting belted, pretty sure that was also Muir.
It was at Moorabbin.
