Who remembers the AFL mistakenly fixturing a Carlton vs Collingwood game at PP? Back in those days, games used to get swapped to the G for attendance purposes but Carlton were stubborn and didn't change it. We won by over 100 points that day! :)

Sure do and I think from memory, it was 111 points.

They won the spoon that year! :D

I had 122 in my head for some reason but think you're right.

Great day!

From memory it was no mistake BlueBelle.

If it is the same game I am thinking of it was the 'last suburban clash' between Carlton and Collingwood. The AFL played the game there as it was the last big suburban game between the two clubs as they knew Princes Park would not be holding games anymore.

Great way for us to see out the venue against Collingwood and if I recall Hotton kicked a bag just to rub salt in!!

I went to the game too. It was the last suburban clash, I sat in the new Legands stand with my Collingwood supporter husband who tried to get me to leave early. Stayed to the end, I think Hotton kicked 5 goals.
So many good memories from Princes Park and I was lucky to have supported Carlton throughout the 70's and 80's. They sure were the good days.

Will never forget the vision of Eddie Mcguire walking around the boundary line after the final siren with his sulky red face and head about to explode with embarassment.....:thumbsu:

I read a few old newspaper articles in Blueseum today and came across a 1972 article where the Lambassador of Australia was fed up with his constant disputes with North Melbourne officials and wanted a clearance to Carlton mid season. He stated "I have wanted to play with Carlton for years".

For the record he was eventually suspended by the Kangaroos for the rest of the '72 season but Barassi's arrival at the end of the season must have ended the saga.

The old 'Corporate Boxes' at Princes Park.

Sat there several times and you had to get there early to get those seats.
The old 'thunderbox' behind the score board at Princes Park.

Sat there several times and you had to get in and out early. Not for the faint hearted. :D

Was a 20 minute round trip from the scoreboard on busy days, mind you that also included a stop for a bucket of chips ( vinegar or sauce ) Can remember struggling to reach up to those counters in the photos as a young lad.
Used to count down the week until Saturday.
Great memories.

Then Junior Supporters Club on a Sunday morning after sitting through firstly The Thunderbirds, then the Hour of Power and finally You Say the Word.
Tedious viewing after Thunderbirds as a young kid waiting for JSC To come on!

Okay, time to get this baby back on the front page.

Time to share some memories of Princes Park again. I am keen to know where the folk on this board that went to games at PP sat or stood.

TL15 was a bit nomadic. Started my early years in the Pratt Stand which was a ripping spot to watch footy. Then moved over to the other side of the ground and sat in the terraces of the Elliott Stand. Finished off my days as a Social Club member.

Someone mentioned in the Game Day Experience thread that an issue nowadays is not feeling like we have a home. I agree with this as it always felt like we belonged at Princes Park and it was our home.
Well done TL15. This post has pulled at the heartstrings of a lot of Carlton supporters. I've enjoyed the photos and the memories. As Max Merrett used to sing "Home is where the heart is".:thumbsu:

Well, his brother is a premiership player with us. Does anyone know how Brian is getting on these days?

Watched the '68 GF recently. He was a pretty good target even with a bung back. Tragic he never played again.

The family was tormented with tragedy really... his youngest brother was apparently the most talented of the 3 and was cut down at 17 years of age.

I found this one yesterday. A documentary of the 1972 grand final in colour. It is different to the one I posted about a year ago that included other finals games that year as well as info describing the game (titled 'Introducing Australian Rules football).

This one is focused on the grand final and has footage from the supporters arriving at the G to the lap of honour with the cup at the end.

Loved getting the tram down Royal Parade after a win, some one would .... Dah dah dah, the whole tram would start...

Not so good if we lost, emotions got a bit frayed

You should try singing the carlton song on the train from subiaco oval after we have beaten the Eagles.

Emotions certainly got a bit frayed.
