I remember it like it was yesterday.

So do I.

Feel a bit sorry for the younger supporters.

Back in the day, we were the biggest show in town. Have actually seen Carlton win 5 premierships live at the G. The best........'79, and if it was played again tomorrow would have a heart attack.

Unfortunately, we have been utterly irrelevant for the last 15 years.

This ain't Carlton anymore.

Come on Robbo, chin up fella. This thread is for memories, not to dwell on our current parlous state. For a Carlton supporter this thread is the lazy Sunday.

Me too Stig. I went to 1979, missed 1981, went to 1982, 1987 and 1995 so I was fortunate at a young age to rack up 5. I don't want to put timeframes on things as it always ends in disappointment. I know one day we will have success again and I am patient enough to wait until it happens.

All I am saying is let's just leave this thread for the memories of the club as there have been some rippers over the years.

Every time I think I'm out they drag me back in.....

Hey Robbo, remember that lazy Saturday afternoon at Princes Park back in the early 80's when we slammed on 10 goals in the premiership quarter against the Hawks......:)

I decided to play football again from 1980 to 1983 and missed a lot of VFL footy. Saturday VFL and Saturday senior footy meant I missed most home and away games. Thinking back I was at Carlton the day Buzz took that incredible mark in front the Heatley Stand. I was at Waverley to see the Blues take down the Hawks in the Preliminary Final. David Clarke played a pretty special game that day but missed out on the premiership. I saw our premiership wins in 81 and 82. Thank you Mum. Amazing ability to gently twist arms. I remember Choco Williams kicking a goal and thinking to myself "please God, not us. We can't lose to Collingwood". Not sure why God listened as I'm not a religious man. 82 was a sensational win. Maurice Rioli, Norm Smith, give me a break! No wonder Cyril gets overinflated praise. Plenty of memories from that game. Great seats. C Section. Right next to the change rooms. Leaning over and watching the players run down the race. I love the defining moments in games of football. The defining moment for me was Marcou's goal in the last quarter. No way back for the Tiges and another premiership. Of course that goal could not have been kicked without the nous of Mark Maclure. The boy could play.

Okay, time to reignite this baby.

My love of footy has diminished a lot over the years. Too many other things in life and not enough time for it. I really hope to re find that love over the next 12 months, until then.....

Boooooooooooooo Leigh Matthews......boooooooooooooooooooooooo. I love the reaction of Wow Jones!

Who was the Melbourne player he belted at the MCG?

Might have been Peter Giles......or McGlashan.

He got Cable with a forearm in a State Game at Subi, got Keith Greig at the G with a blindside, coat-hangered Bruns (off the ball) at Princes Park, Kneed Kenny Hunter at PP, blindisded Andy Ireland at Victoria Park...............his list is endless.

It certainly was Peter Giles.

Matthews was also the first player who laid a cable at Subiaco.

Greatest of all for me.

We hadn't kicked a sausage till Harmes bangs one late in the second...........the we went bunta and loaded off 5.

Pies had cleared out match hardened chokers like Thompson and the Richardson brothers, and brought in a new breed of neck throttlers in Kink, Moore and Barham.

Jezza brought in a bunch of kids, and got his mates Swan and Percy fit for the first time in 5 years.

Trivia note: That dog Kink got 6 weeks for spitting, that's right, on Jezza.
