Mine goes back to 1975. Finally convinced Chris Pavlou that I deserved a game for Carlton u19s. Had to cool my heels as I was on the bench. We were playing * at Princes Park.

Finally got my call up during the orange time break. I was feeling angry and elated at the same time.

We were kicking to the Heatley Stand end. It was one of those days where the wind was howling across the ground but the sun was shining.

Right. I was playing forward something I could do but I preferred to play on the ball.

Two crumbing opportunities fell my way and Robbo kicked two goals. Take that I thought to myself. That will convince the coach.

Playing footy I don’t think I could have been any happier. I was on my way.

There were other opportunities and I did OK but a couple of months later me and Crozza featured in an article in the Football Record. We were referred to as grasshoppers. Guys who had been cleared to another team before the 30 June deadline.

What could have been? I still have those conversations in my head and it’s been over 40 years. Since I could remember I had dreamed of playing for Carlton. It was looking pretty good until Bill Hoogan left and was replaced by Chris Pavlou.

Round 4 or 14?

I was benched mid way through U15s :). I salute you for making the under 19s!

Musta been rd 4, if Robbo was a grasshopper by end of June. Kudos Robbo. Woulda been great to wear that jumper, even if for not as long as you wanted.

Shit I think I just blew my cover.

I played junior footy with Carlton’s leading goalkicker that season. He was a year younger than me. Choco was his nickname due to his dark complexion however I think he was Italian by descent. Maybe that was my mistake. Should have gone with my mum’s maiden of Piccone.

You’re smarter than the average bear. You should be in charge of Bluseum.

You may as well have it all. Kicked a goal against Richmond at Punt Rd. Hit the post as well which I always found annoying.

Running out onto the ground that day was memorable. Richmond was a powerhouse. Slug Jordan was at North Melbourne at this time however he had been responsible for a lot of its success. I’m not sure who was coaching Richmond at that stage

We were doing our warm ups which in those days was a slow jog around the ground. You always check out your opposition and there he was. You couldn’t miss him. He was two pick handles across the shoulders. He had earned a bit of a reputation the previous year for his involvement in the Windy Hill brawl. Yes it was Stephen Parsons. Banished to the thirds because he’d been a naughty boy.

Robbo was glad I played deep forward that day and Parsons wasn’t interested in defending.:D

Brilliant stuff. What do you remember of 'B. Brown', if anything? We have nothing on site and he seemed to have a good game that day.

Okay this is the time of year this thread comes into its own.

Time for some memories. I invite everyone to share their favourite Carlton memory. Can be a game, an event or an issue.

Mine was round 3, 1993. Sticks redemption.

The week before he put it out on the full after the siren to draw with Essendon.

The following week we played the Hawks on a hot Easter Monday. I stood on the hill in front of the scoreboard with a big crowd at Princes Park. We were behind and from memory Rohan Welsh kicked one to bring us back. Sticks then marked with not long to go. He went back and kicked the goal to put us in front. We held on to win by a couple of points.

72 GF for me. I’d just turned 13 and had ordered and received a sole junior standing room ticket for I think around $2.50. I wanted a good standing spot so got there for the opening of the gates and watched the under 19s and ressies GFs. It was a game like I’d never seen. 18 goals to half time and I was gob smacked. The only minor irritation was they out scored us in the final term, but such a good feeling when the siren blew.

I’ve just discovered this thread. Thought I’d offer this, maybe it’s been mentioned somewhere previously. I’ve been to 4 Grand Finals in my time. They were consecutive GF's. If you could choose, which consecutive 4 would you go to?

Do to circumstances (and having the right girlfriend at the time - with connections) mine was 1979-1982. In 79 I was sitting in the Ponsford Stand directly in line with Harmes' punch back from the boundary (it was in, unless you’re a Pies supporter -then it was out by a meter). In 82 I saw my first fully naked woman.

I’ll be at our next GF with my wife and 3 adult daughters. It’s been hard supporting the Blues in recent times, but we all are committed and anticipating better times ahead.

Great memories and thanks for sharing. Most of all glad you find this hidden gem!

Please note at our next GF win your wife and daughters may see a fully naked man streaking!

sheedy to full forward snags 3 but to no avail.........what a memory for you, chooker!
It difficult to believe but Sheeds was a sledger.

The run up to the GF saw Carlton and Richmond play a drawn game in the Second Semi Final. Richmond belted us in the replay.

The edentate Sheeds gave it to Big Nick in the replay. It would have been the usual bs that Big Nick copped all the time.

We beat St Kilda in the Prelim Final easily. It was the only time I saw Jezza throw a punch on the footy field. Cowboy Neale had gone all ‘Peter Hudson’ on him and Jezza had had enough.

GF day. Tigers were short favourites just like * in 99. However Big Nick and the boys had hatched a plan that overwhelmed the Tigers. We’ll just kick more goals. From memory 8, 10, 7 and 3.

Sheeds kicked his goals in junk time. He was the spur that day. Watch the game and see the Carlton boys turning the tables and taunting him.

Trevor Keogh put him to the sword. Jezza kicked 7, Wallsy 6 and Big John 6. Poor old Ray Boyanich.

As Lou Richards shouted in 1984 “this is Sheedy’s Premiership”. 1972 was as well.

I clearly recall as a 12 year old being completely fascinated by the wall to wall stories and photos in the Sun the following Monday. Many of those pages spent several years on my bedroom wall. Jezza still my all-time favourite.

The Sporting Globe was a pink paper print sports newspaper.

I’m pretty certain it went with ROYAL BLUES as the headline.

Great paper. Added bonus during the finals is that it printed the statistics for the players.

Fond memories of heading to the newsagent in Wheatsheaf Road to buy a copy. If * won you’d have to be quick. If * lost there was a pile left that a hurdler would struggle to jump over.

From memory that was the paper that was released on a Saturday night?
