I was with a mate at the Western Oval watching Footscray and Melbourne. The scoreboard at the ground was fascinating reading that day.

They shut the gates at Footscray that day.

Pretty sure.

and Lyon broke his leg, so that game ran longer than the others.

Garry did break his leg and the ground was packed. I was with a Demon supporter and Melbourne had not made a final series since 1964. Safe to say he was pretty excited after the match. A lot of things had to go Melbourne’s way for them to make finals. I think Hawthorn v Geelong was a close one as well.

16 points down at half time. Cats up by 6 points, Fitzroy by 8 over Sydney puts North on track to steal 3rd place over Swans. Dees and Dogs need Hawks to win to have a hope of 5th spot, but if Hawks win, we lose top spot prize. Lift!!!!

By geebers, that Kernahan goal after the siren!!

Phwoooooar.

13 marks and 6 goals from chf, thank you very much.
You could always rely on Sticks in a big game. In 1987 final at Waverley he climbed over Langford a couple of times in the last quarter.

Captain, b&f, won the club goalkicking, and a premiership in ‘87.

Best mark I’ve ever seen.

Doro came off the bench that day, played forward in the gf after Sartori got injured in the 2nd semi.
Was wondering why I could not remember Sartori in grand final. Was a weird forward line with Hunter and Doro down there, but still worked.

Tbh we weren’t the strongest of lists, essentially had 2 elite, but we really trailed off.

From memory, Dean, Naley and Frazer Murphy came in for, Evans, Blackwell and Sartori.

There was considerable hype around Sticks for a number of seasons. He crossed to Carlton as a 22 year old however he had been on the radar for a number of years. I remember watching the 1985 SANFL grand final. Glenelg hadn’t won the premiership for a while and Sticks remained loyal saying he wouldn’t leave until Glenelg did. Suffice to say I was barracking for Glenelg that day. Don’t shoot me for being incorrect but I think they played North Adelaide.

I recollect early in the game Sticks flying for a mark and he was given an ear massage by his opponent. Not long after Sticks let his opponent take the front position and returned the favour. He won me immediately.

The Bay won the flag and Sticks arrived at Carlton in 1986.

Bryce Gibbs dad was playing that day along with Dooza (David Kernahan).
