I was in Maryborough today and the local solicitor very kindly took this out of their window to let me photograph it.
Big John was a local boy.

Tony de Bolfo wrote it up here in 2022 on the 50th anniversary

Now it could read King meets King

Fantastic article, a really good read.

Hard not to feel nostalgic about that, albeit I only ever got to the one game at Princes Park (Optus Oval as it was called when I went).

The first footy game I went to was Round 16, 2004 (https://www.blueseum.org/Round+16,+2004).

For all the reasons we know and love, I'll never forget that day. The ticket price for me was $2.20. My Aunty and cousin were huge North fans and we sat together. My scarf blowing in the wind, the smell of the hot pies. My (otherwise timid) Dad yelling 'baaaaaaaaaalllll' and 'come on umpire' as I sat there watching him in equal parts awe and shock.

The game itself was nothing to get excited about (albeit we won!). I will forever remember we quite literally won by 8 points. It didn't matter though, I was absolutely hooked from that moment on.

I don't remember a single other thing from my 13th year on this earth but I won't ever forget that day at Princes Park.

I thought this collection of clips from the club paying tribute to Pribces Park was enjoyable to watch. I’d never before seen the 1970 mark from Alex Jesaulenko. Dare I say that it was a better grab than the 1970 grand final?

That Hawks demolition footage made my heart smile.🤣
And I agree re the Jezza mark. Wowee!
Great clips.😊

Having a quick look at the first page of this thread and the tweet above, is there another club in the history of our sport that has had as many superstars as we have had at our club throughout our history? Is it any wonder why so many players, past and present supported our club as kids?

Where's the statue commemorating that?

One of the most iconic moments in the game's entire history.

Travesty that bald, ball dropping cheat from the ferals got one before the real Jezza.

There should be one in the avenue of champions - it’s a travesty that there isn’t.

Does anyone know the outcome of this poll?
The Herald Sun were trying to ascertain what is Carlton's greatest jumper number.
I am surprised that they didn't include number 7 in the shortlist.

There have been so many premiership players in number 7.
Leehane (1914)
Jamieson (1915)
Carney (1938)
Turner (1945, 47)
Hopkins (1970)
Lukas (1972)
Johnston (1979, 1981, 1982, 1987)
Ratten (1995)

So jumper number 2 is my guess for the chosen greatest guernsey number yet only six premiership players have worn that number.
Eight premiership players in 7.
The other great guernsey number is 25. 25 must have gone close.
