Can anyone confirm for sure hes done the trades? Wouldnt be the first time hes given dud advice and done sonething different. Wouldnt surprise me if he was trying to throw people off so he can move up the rankinga

That happens plenty on sites like this but not sure if the AFL would be overly pleased if their paid DT "expert" was doing this.

He's trying to trade his way up to a supposed "high" ranking early on to validate his job title. Then he can throw his hands up in the air late in the year when he slides down the rankings to outside the top 30k.

He's clearly worried about losing his job next year, so needs to get a good overall ranking "now" even though it'll mean it'll be worse come end of season to impress people as a stat he can post in each article.

Agree Yogi, what he wants is cred NOW. He realises most people give up after half year so if he's near the top early people will take notice.

Problem is, I'm sure the AFL won't review his performance until years end and the ranking will be V ordinary. It all depends what his job KPIs are. If it's purely hits to his articles then he won't care about his late ranking.

It really seems to us like Dr DT is horrible and knows very little.

He's got 1-2 years of experience max while most of us here have got 3-4+.

He knows nothing of the kind of advanced trading strategy required to build a team full of guns.

He really is a "hack".

I'm all for Dr DT bashing as much as the next person- his arrogance is astounding- but I wouldn't go so far as calling anybody with less than 3-4 years experience as being a hack. He should have definitely done some planning and research before he started calling himself an expert, but remember, we've all got to start somewhere!

The thing is, how in depth can he afford to be in his coverage/analysis of the game if the afl is just as happy with him targetting noobs and bringing new people to the game. (appealing and making more sense to those less familiar with it)

His trades are terrible, but he needs something to discuss, and without going in to the basic maths of any of those trades etc it looks like he's pulling out these inexperienced trades as a replication of the players that follow him and take him seriously.

I read that Dr. Dreamteam/Mr. Fantasy article yesterday and found just as interesting as the logic behind the trades is that he openly states that trading Boyd out and then back in again might cost him "a trade".

Even if he doesn't count bringing Watson in as costing him a trade, making a sideways from Boyd to Watson and then trading Boyd back in costs more than "a trade". It costs a trade and the opportunity to downgrade/upgrade a player, or to make a necessary trade for injury/spudliness.

That is like saying that buying a car doesn't just cost $10,000 but you also don't get to go on an overseas holiday. You can't count the cost of something as well as the opportunity cost, its one or the other.

Actually, it's more like saying that buying 2 cars costs you $10,000 and the opportunity to go on an overseas holiday.

If he follows his thought through he's using 2 trades to get Boyd out and then back in again the following, but claiming it'll only cost him "a trade". I was being generous in allowing that getting Watson in isn't a bad idea, but to do it that way and say it's only costing "a trade" is a simplistic view of the situation.

It'll be interesting to see whether he keeps Watson until Essendon's first bye. To be fair he's going quite well at 1546 overall.

I think Dr DT will be a great example of someone who had a very good initial team and then via trading, managed to destroy his season.

1546 is a good ranking at the moment, but if he maintains this bye trading strategy, he will really struggle at the back end of the season.

This could have been his master plan, showing people how bad trading can ruin your season.

"After these three multi-bye rounds, I hope to have my team pretty close to how it will stay through the second half of the season."

This to me proves how much of a noob this guy is and how little he really knows.

How about the upgrades? Not going to fill up with gun premiums?

It just keeps keeps getting worse for Dr DT.

Trading premiums sideways doesn't build your team.

It's a very risky strategy- and one that could pay off. However, his ranking isn't high enough for the risk to be worth the pain. While he's in contention for the car, others with more trades up their sleeves have higher rankings and can build better teams by the middle of the season. He'll also be leapfrogged by teams behind.

I like to think of it as a car race. He goes very qucik early on...but uses up the tyres too quickly...in the 2nd half of the race the tyres are destoryed and he is getting lapped by everyone

Aggressive trading was always an option but he's just taking it to extremes this early into the season. If he does go and try 'complete' his side in the next month he'll be losing alot of cash in not allowing his rookies to mature and premiums to bottom out etc. Not a good way to go about it.
