Unfortunately, his starting side for this year looks pretty good:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/128401/default.aspx

Must have taken at least two work experience kids to put that one together!

If he dropped Waters, Grimes... I would consider that an improvement.

If he considered cheaper options than SJ and Franklin, I think that would be an improvement. I feel that those two players miss games and are close to fully priced as it is, so you may want a little upside.

The rest of the team is fine, I may not consider Zac Smith as well, but stranger things have happened with regards to scoring.

What's wrong with Grimes? Too injury prone or have I missed something? (haven't been keeping up with off-season news this year)

It depends on your levels of risk.

Grimes games player: 1, 11, 14, 6

Those are his last 4 years, hardly inspiring.

He is priced at 66, with a potential average of around 85ppg.

An example of a player that may be worth considering at the same pricing point would be Duffield in my eyes.

11, 21, 22, 21 games in the last 4 years.

Priced at 70, with a potential average of around 85ppg as well. I just think someone like Duffield (assuming he is best 22) may be a safer option. If that is the pricing point for a player you're interested in.

Ah, very good points :thumbsu:

Duff is an interesting one. I think either he or Suban will explode this year kicking the ball out of the backline with Ross' gameplan. I'm struggling to pick any backline premiums with confidence outside of Goddard, Deledio and Birchall though.

He seems to have too many fully-priced players, but his starting team last year was very good. It's his trading that sucks.

Don't see a problem with this. They are fully priced for a reason. People seem to be extremely obsessed with "value", but really it is much more risky. Select the players you believe are the best for that position, and if that means selection 3 or more max priced players then so be it. Just depends on your "structure" (another word I take little notice of). Guns n Rookies you should see many more max priced players. Just how I feel, anyway.

Although if Grimes keeps getting mentioned for the captaincy in the future...then surely Melbourne must think his body is all good.

And it's not like his season ending injury last year was a soft tissue injury. It was a broken foot injury. His body perfectly fit until that freak accident. I'm not saying I'll pick him, but has to be considered if he holds up across the pre season

btw Doc has got way too many mid pricers in his team...

But he has them at the expense of what at least looks like some iffy mid-pricers. Perhaps he's right, and he'll have a great team - but some massive question marks in his side.

Hes shit get over it.

Grimes vs Duffield

One clear best 21 and probably first 6-8 picked for his side. The other in the bottom 4-6 picked and on the fringes, a lot of similar players who can play the same role. I have considered both, but after reading freos board they don't want Duffy in the best 22.

I think Grimes durability worries is overrated, although it still isnt to good at all.

We should get over it in the Dr. DT "Hack" thread?
He at least gives us something to talk about and does some things outside the box (Boyd trade), even if they are poor moves.

His pre season hasnt really ever been a worry. Its his season proper is where he does most of the damage. Very good player but his last 4 seasons have all been injury interrupted whereby he has spent large junks of time injured and that sort of history doesnt lend himself to be picked by myself as your most likely going to end up trading him during the season

In my post I actually specifically said

"I'm not saying I'll pick him, but has to be considered if he holds up across the pre season"

And if Melbourne are selecting him as their bloody co-captain...then surely his body isn't as bad as everyone thinks

You dont pick a captain that is that young that wont be on the park half the time. I think it holds little water, but still something. You need to be confident your captain will be out on the field most weeks.

What i cant get past is he has shown in 2 years that he can avg 88+. Is priced at 65~ and his bye suits well for the backmen, i cant see too many that i want to start with that have a round 11 or 12 bye.

From the sounds of it his PS has been decent, he has rebounded well from a break in the foot and the other injuries such as his back were far more concerning as they can reoccur but he seemed like he had got over them in the past year.

Grimes is worth the risk IMO.

Even if he gets injured after 10-13 games, if he's played the way he has in the past he'd have gone up in value and is a straight swap to a gun.

I'm prepared to risk that given his potential upside.

Looks better with the surgical mask on. :p

He's currently second last in one of the leagues I'm in.

Terrible forward line as well.

22. FRANKLIN
23. DANGERFIELD
24. MARTIN
25. SMITH
26. KENNEDY
27. PORPLYZIA
28. HALL
29. CAMERON
30. DICKSON

Edit: He's traded out Dal Santo. Was a very odd DT selection to begin with though...
