No one would have picked that last year or at the start of this year.

Incredible that he's dropped so low in rankings, but great for us! He's the back pocket we've been wanting and waiting for!

I think he's very talented and will thrive once in the AFL system. He has a strong desire to succeed and is incredibly competitive.

With the quality of players available at all our picks, this draft has the potential to be like our 2008 (Naitanui Shuey) & 2010 (Gaff Darling Lycett) - where we grab 2-3 players who become A graders and the core of our next premiership campaign.
We need a goal scoring small forward to compliment Lecca, Clem being indigenous surely has that natural goal instinct.
Could he be a defensive small forward in the future?

Toby McLean from the Oakley Chargers is a rippa, just watched his video after reading Darcey Moore rates him to win the rising star in 2015.
What's the feeling on here, anyone rate him?
He is an elite mark for his size

Thats a weird comment. Plenty of indigenous players don't play as a small forward with many playing half back or through the midfield

Sure

But many seem to be able to find the goals when they are within range.

Byron Picket played back but give him a sniff near 50 and he would go for it.

I haven't seen Clem live so I was just wondering has anyone got a view on a switch to the forward pocket and has that been tried.
Ideally someone who has seen him play in the flesh would be able to comment. Appreciate it.

Without addressing the obvious.

Smith has elite natural agility, and lateral movement. Which is an attribute more useful up forward and in the middle than coming out of defense on train tracks.

He isn't a big goal kicker at the moment (partly because he's played defense), but he's got the capacity to develop it. His kicking is better suited to kicking at the goal face than at individual targets, where he struggles to hit shorter hit up targets at inopportune times. He's better of kicking through the ball and within 55m Clem would be capable of getting the ball over the line.

Down back Smith is a minus sized small defender, up forward he's simply small. He has a solid vertical leap and can take risks in the air. Up forward he can afford to risk losing his footing in an attempt to take an offensive mark. Down back if he leaves the deck too aggressively to compensate for his lack of height, he often finds himself shifted outside the line of the ball an in a poor defensive position.

Skinny KPP winning the rising star is highly improbable. Darcy Moore comes across as a less awkward (knows the location of his limbs) and less potent version of Daniher.

Thanks for the insight

Sounds like he may be a handy pickup if he can develop into the small forward with crash and bash defensive pressure.
Bennell has a mortgage on the small defensive role ATM

What about this guy?

Jack Lonie (Dandenong Stingrays)

Born 13.8.1996, 174cm, 67kg

AFL biography: Busy small forward who reads the ball exceptionally well off hands, is a penetrating left footer and smart around goals. His ability to set-up team mates and create opportunities for others is rare. Excellent for Vic Country at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, winning their MVP award whilst averaging 14.3 disposals and 1.5 goals across six matches. Cousin of former AFL players Ryan and Nathan Lonie.

Mark Wheeler, Dandenong Stingrays: "Jack's our favourite. There is nothing wrong with him, other than the fact he's 174cm. He's a small forward who knows how to play that role, defensively he's great. I'm not sure he'll make it into an AFL midfield, but if it does it might take 3-5 years of development. He's courageous, he knows where the goals are, he's proven himself on a big stage and he's a bit like Hayden Ballantyne. He never shuts up and has a bit of spunk about him, he doesn't mind telling you how good he is when he's just kicked a couple of goals on you. He's brave, and the best thing about him is he oozes leadership. Jack's the one everyone wants to listen to."

I rate him FAR higher than Rainbow.
He's the better athlete and IMO footballer too.
Weights his kicks very nicely, decent penetration, good burst of speed, better vision forward of centre.

I'd be really happy if we picked him up.

Do you like him RE?

Yea he's the one I hope slides to us

Like Lonie a lot, just hope we follow last year and take a creative small forward.
Lecca to the midfield needs a little goal seek to take his role, it's another area we lack elite talent
