Strategy Draft assistance 2023 [Twomey: NMFC get #19 in 2023, x2 end of 1st rd picks in 2024, and x2 extra rookie list spots in 2024; no Sanders/#11]

19 + 19 + 20 = Pick 2.

It's about a 1000 point surplus to pick 5.

It's funny if the AFL came out and gave us pick 4, we would probably all be happy, so if we just went up and traded all 3 x PP's to the GC, it could make sense.

Take 2,3,5,14 to the draft.

I’d trade 19 & 20 from next year for two Loguesque players.

Jeez some of you - some - come across as entitled (insert whatever word here)

3 first rounders for nothing - on top of a second and third last year - for your club running itself into the ground.

No bad luck. No run of guns getting badly injured etc. just poorly run and poor development of the plethora of high picks you already have.

Now you are turning the corner but don’t whinge about being given a massive leg up on the rest of the comp.

And yes Gold Coast got a free number one pick - but they have been around 5 minutes and been pillaged for their best players each year by the big VIC clubs.

No excuses for you blokes - you were playing finals regularly just 6-7 years ago

As expected we didn’t get pick 11 or sanders - we all knew this.
Very funny of the dumb campaigners to approve sanders as part of our nga - let’s see if we slides past 40 🤡s
Few good suggestions of trading picks for upgrading to GC or even weagles but if we miss that we should try and uo grade f1sts and try to get a future first from a club. One preferably that has nga or high ends f/s coming through.

l cant see us looking at getting Sanders unless

a) we do a trade to get GC 1st round pick and then

b) on trade it to the Hawks for their 1st Round pick

giving us 2,3,4 . If this doesnt happen then the Hawks will take Sanders at #4...

we will then take Curtin and McKersher and you can have Reid...

The Hawks wont take Sanders, they will take Duursma.

In fact, I could see Sanders getting to Geelong at #7, who he would fit very nicely into.

How does this relate to us getting Sanders now that he is a part of our NGA Academy? No mention of us being able to match a pick on him within the first 40 picks, which if we are able to, we could use a combination of these and other picks to get him.

Or am I dumber than even I think.

I don't see anyone on offer at the moment I'd want to trade for.

And I liked Logue a long way out last year, just thought him unlikely.

I don't see anyone even unlikely at the minute.

I don't like the Sean Darcy rumors for the sole reason we can get him as a FA for nothing next year.

7 x R1 picks in 2 drafts + Sean Darcy in 2024 propels us into contention in 2025 onwards.

Pretty simple isn't it? The only way we can get him is to actually draft him with one of our picks. Which seems unlikely at 2 or 3. So was all a pretty pointless exercise to get him added to our NGA.

Fair to say it's not going down too well on the MB, especially after clarification that all 3 can be traded. Oh well.....
They would only be happy if we got nothing, we could’ve got an end of fourth rounder and they’d be upset.
Fair enough I suppose. I don’t like priority picks/assistance packages or whatever they are called.

But here we are.

We get to bid on him if he goes at a pick 40+

We can't get Sean Darcy for free next year.... next year we will be competing with 17 other clubs, and as history has shown we aren't the destination club for FAs.... so if we are keen this is the year otherwise we shake elsewhere

No we can't match... if we want him you use the picks that have just been handed out

The bonus of this is that we retain our 2024 r1 & R2 picks.
Knowing our need for KPP's I'm starting to be tempted to split either pick 2 or 3 to get O'Sullivan & Caddy (combining with pick 14) while also keeping the other 2 top 5 picks.

$$$ and a no.1 ruck spot.

We aren't a destination club for FA's because we've been utter shit for the best part of a decade.

And when we were "decent" we weren't a legitimate contender, we were pretty much St Kilda right now. So no real FA who was chasing success was coming to us other than money and extending their careers (Waite, Higgins, Dal Santo)

If we start moving up the ladder and have one of the best young lists in the league, players will flock to us, players follow the chance of success and a premiership.

We were THE destination club of the 90's because players wanted finals and flags.

Melbourne was attracting the likes of Bernie Vince and Daniel Cross not to long ago.
