The other issue is that Gold Coast is getting three potential top 10 picks for nothing. Teams like Gold Coast and GWS are stock piling players in their academies. The argument is that they don't have access to father sons. It didn't stop Sydney putting Blakey into their academy.
Which reminds me, are the McCartney boys in an academy also?

Nat Edwards on the AFL Daily podcast today saying there's "no rhyme or reason to how the compensation works". She referenced Hawthorn getting pick 19 for Buddy Franklin. Well Nat, I think maybe you just don't understand the "rhyme or reason". A team on the bottom of the ladder is going to be more affected by losing a high $ value player than the team that wins the GF the year before. Hence the high compensation via a pick. Her example of Buddy is literally the rhyme and the reason. Hawthorn won flags straight after Buddy left so losing him didn't impact them hardly at all.
These w***ers deliberately try and conflate free agent COMPENSATION and ASSISTANCE for a protracted period of poor performance.

You can try and describe these two completely different mechanisms until you’re blue in the face.

But they won’t get it. Or they choose not to in order to be outraged.

Don’t know about anyone else, but I’m extremely nervous about what Brady is going to do with these extra picks. The meltdowns on the main board will have nothing on the meltdowns on this one.

Yeah there's you and few others who still think he's incompetent at his job, despite evidence to the contrary.

23 #40 - Z. Fisher
23 #52 - D. Stephens
24 #19 - S. Darcy
24 #20 - J. Scrimshaw
Can we trade the future end of first rounders? Did say it will be reviewed next year but if we can the above looks good and I sure as hell would be trading them now in case we surprise a few and they do a backflip

It just seems to me that some people really cannot handle the idea of people who they perceive as being lesser than them getting a helping hand of any kind.
Punching down, a great Australian tradition brought to you by those at the top, eagerly adopted by their hordes of useful idiots.

Woke up to the dulcet tones of Tim 'Mouth-o-Marbles' Gossage on SEN Perth having a mighty dummy spit over our PP's and slamming Ben McKay as a crap player - can the AFL please not consider the long & lucrative McKay to Essendon contract but listen to The Goss instead?

'Mouth-o-Marbles' opinion >>>>> McKay's actual contract value.

I don’t mind Nat but it’s just sloppy journalism And really quite embarrassing with no one being held accountable to any type of standard whatsoever. AFL journalism must be the only topic in the world where you can get away with knowing absolutely nothing about what you’re reporting on And the dumbass masses just continue to lap it up. People just love being outraged.

I think the important thing for us all to do moving forward (after we trade next years picks) is to lobby hard to end priority pick assistance for struggling clubs. It IS unfair and it DOES blatantly manipulate the draft order and disadvantage other teams.

When opposition supporters put an asterisk next to our 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030 flags we can all look back fondly on the lesson we gifted to the league and how we "showed them" by manufacturing 3 picks in the 20's (after father son and academy picks) over 2 drafts that single handedly transformed the fortunes of a once down and out club.

I shall name this newly formed coalition the "North Melbourne alliance For the end of Unfair priority pick assistance" or NMFU for short. Please join this worthy cause.

Look haven’t watched the Chris Scott interview but my mate read it to me . He does make some valid points , he is also out for himself. However, every other club in the same position has been compensated, regardless of what he thinks. So if Geelong ever get into this position according to Chris they won’t ask for any assistance, good to know . We don’t want to be where we are but if there is help available you take it. The game is compromised in many ways this draft assistance is just one of them.

As a general rule I wouldn't listen to these two muppets, but the saltiness of both Damo and Nat was just beautiful to listen to!
It's hilarious, Edwards admits her bias as a Hawks supporter, and acknowledges that the Hawks built their multiple premiership team on the back of priority picks, but then tries to even twist that as Clarkson trying to do what he did at Hawthorn again at North as somehow being unfair! Just come out and say it, "It's OK when my team does it, but North can't have nice things!"

Also, they seem to think that by saying "continually" getting assistance and "go to the AFL EVERY TIME" that these lies somehow become facts, we got a 2nd&3rd rounder last year that had to be traded, yesterday's package is the first assistance of any real significance we have been given!

The meltdowns across the whole industry, media, oppo fans, other clubs, it is truly a beautiful thing!

The pick package is clearly constructed to be traded for ready made players which is what will make us more competitive quickly.
Whilst I think one could/should be (for the right player, not just because we have the pick), I think we could use the opportunity to build our back six/address needs with these picks.

To be slightly controversial about it, this is what is driving a certain amount of the No vote for the current referendum. If the question was not simply relating to a constitutionally enshrined voice to parliament but instead referred specifically to government funding, ie - should there be significant programs to overcome the issues encountered by indigenous Australians that leads to a much higher incarceration rate, a much lower life expectancy, and other statistically and incontrovertibly proven economic and social disadvantages - then I suspect there would still be a fair amount of voters who would say no, give them nothing, it's divisive etc etc.

That was kinda what my post was really about ;)

Just watched Chris Scotts on 360

He’s really bitter and extra salty lol
We wouldn't have needed assistance if his brother hadn't of farked us so badly.

Talk about bad decision making - Pittard Polec Hall and the failed attempts to lure a big fish, year after year.

Instead of going to the draft, trading up, astute drafting and building a list.

Brad and Joyce took an axe to the list and now are gone, and Clarko and Viney are left to deal with the consequences.

The only positive to come out of this, that maniac is now at *

There’s a reason Chris is so pissed off. It’s a monster of his brothers making.
I can guarantee bard ain’t getting a Christmas card this year.

This is the key point to me. There are so many compromises, inconsistencies and discrepancies in everything in the AFL, in the draft, F/Ss, academies, NGAs, assistance, free agents. And they continually change the rules around it all. Outside of the draft, fixturing, timeslots, umpire allocations, media bias, etc etc.

I'd rather our team didn't need and didn't get assistance, but the way this is all set up, if there is an opportunity to get a leg up, you have to take it, every other club would in our situation and has in the past to our detriment.

Our job is to make the most of what we have been given, then in the future, given the way everyone else is acting at the moment, when another club has their hand out for some help, we go full hypocrite and screech loud and long about how unfair it would be for them to receive a single thing!!

Like when the Aussies challenged at Lords.

Know your place or be labelled a cheat - even if you do what everyone else has been doing.

Right. We're not supposed to upset the apple cart - just accept our place like the other small clubs. Part of the reason people don't hate the Bulldogs, or Saints anywhere near the same level. Just shut up, be seen but not heard and not challenge the status quo. It's kinda the same mentality you see in various sectors of society, from workplace to politics.
