I expect we won’t get one but you’d think we fit the criteria.

We can improve but regular 10+ goal losses don’t turn to wins on the back of some improved play.

What is the criteria? Are there actually any sort of goal posts with this or does the AFL just make it up as they go along?

Under current AFL rules, enacted from the 2012 season onwards, a club can receive a priority draft pick at the discretion of the AFL Commission.

A formula which will assist with determining whether or not a team receives a priority draft pick, and at which round in the draft that pick will be taken, has been developed that takes into account such factors as:

premiership points that a club has received over a period of years (with greater weight to recent seasons),
a club's percentage (points for/points against x 100) over a period of years (another indication of on-field competitiveness, with greater weight to recent seasons),
any finals appearances that a club has made in recent seasons,
any premierships that a club has won in recent seasons, and
a club's injury rates in each relevant season.

Sooo... you’re saying we’ll get two priority picks?

Was it 3 wins last year, 10 in 2019 and was 2018 the year we won enough games early for finals and pretty much failed to win a game afterwards? If so from mid 2018 onward we've been garbage. Not sure what we won in that second half of the season, 2 games maybe? Assuming we jag 1 this year from somewhere, ive no idea where though - then thats 16 wins in 3.5 seasons. Absolute pox, if that isnt worth of a PP i dont know what is. May as well do away with it if its not.

Well..we def tick off the injuries criteria. We've excelled over the past 3 years.

NMFC: Well Gil we tick the injuries box so give us a priority pick next year?
AFL: Yes we’ve been monitoring that situation David - unfortunately injuries are the responsibility of your club as you appoint your fitness staff, so no PP allocated in this circumstance..

GCFC: Well Gil we tick the injuries box so give us a priority pick next year?
AFL: Yes we’ve been monitoring that situation Stu - here have two PP’s and access to every Sudenese refugee kid across the country for the next decade for your unfortunate circumstances..

Spare us the sarcasm, its a sh*t system and will only further attract more laying the boots in.

Spare me the faux bravado then.

Nobody in any visible position ever references Hawthorn's or Collingwood's premierships with some caveat of "well they don't really count because they had a priority pick".

I used to take some pride in not going down that path but it was all for nought. Other than Geelong and their exceedingly good luck with father-son every other premiership team in the last 2 decades has enjoyed some kind of free kick via academies, COLA or priority picks.

Yeh I'd be so ashamed if we got the next Buddy, Griffin or Pendlebury knowing that was how we got them.

We will be strung up if we go cap in hand. Its a terrible system and worse still will be a terrible look given the absolute s**t show we have been on and off field the last couple years

Honestly, it's a s**t system but we didn't build it and we better ******* get to take advantage of it. This is the same competition that took out basically an entire Essendon team due to drug cheating then rewarded them with high draft picks when they inevitably fell to the bottom of the ladder. If we finish last after two absolutely deplorable seasons we should be getting looked after.

and not give 2 shits about what anyone else thinks while we are at it.

The system is in place for teams in our exact position. We have been poo for a very long time now and should be compensated as other teams have been.
