Dudes... I'm so not up-to-date with anything Port Adelaide. What's going on? Has the club placed dibs on Spaanderman?

I don't think so.

Going by what I've seen on the Drafts & Trades board, we've got dibs on Will Gayfer at #15 (brother of Mick who played for Collingwood), with Craig Parry, Jake Furfaro and Josh Willoughby dibs with the later picks.

Porthos, what are your thoughts on Gayfer, is he really worth pick 15?

From memory he missed a bit of footy this year due to problems with his knees. This would be a bit of a concern to me considering we have had trouble in the past with some of our younger talls and their injuries.

As I haven't seen any of the kids play except for snippets on Fox Footy, I don't have much of an opinion. But from what I've read, I'm thinking that Gayfer might be a bit Ken McGregorish though in style.

Really though, the first round of picks this year will probably be more needs based than any other year due to the evenness, so we could literally end up with anybody, and because one of our needs is tall defenders, Gayfer's name keeps cropping up.

The fact his brother played for Collingwood definitely is a turn off.

I've heard that Alan Stewart isn't too rapt in this year's draft pool, so it really does open up selection options. And it explains their interest in recycled or more mature age local comp players.

If we opt to delve into the pre-season draft more than the November draft, how many picks do we get? And are they likely to be in the same order as the November draft picks?

38 last year
OUT: Cocky, Morgan, Guerra, Packo, Koula, Francou, Wanganeen

Leaves 31

Have to use picks 15,30,34,39

If that's all we use, leaves 35 with up to 3 picks for the PSD

Then Nick the **** quits leaving 34 with up to 4 picks in the PSD then however many rookies we can fit in the salary cap

Clear as mud? Good.

I understand Francou and Wanganeen will be off our main list to our veterans list. But Packo was already on the veterans list, so you can't count him as coming off the main list.

I was watching the Fox Footy special on the draft camp this afternoon and they followed this kid called Bill.. er.. someone (sorry, was half asleep at the time) as he was being interviewed by the Bulldogs. At the end they were asking about the other clubs that had spoken to him and he said "From what I've heard, I'm glad I didn't go to Port Adelaide" with a bit of a freaked out look on his face.

Sounds like Choco's still got it ;)

Yeah that could be him. He was tall (198cm I think they said he was), said his idol was Tredrea and missed all of this year due to an injury.

They spoke to Choco and asked what type if questions he fires at the boys and he had the biggest grin on his face. One might think he enjoys scaring the **** out of these kids :p

He'd much prefer a team that finished last to one which, despite its' less than impressive record in finals, is always there? I don't know where he comes from but they must breed them thick there.

For what its worth, I reckon that comment has been treated to Choco style journalism (ie. Worst Possible Inference) - probably just commenting on what the other guys have told him about Choco's interview style.
