Has anyone heard from various sources, ie. people who know people who attende the draft camp that the roos were talking to at the draft camp or any other players for that matter, i know one or two but not who the roos were talking to. Anyone ???

Well Football 365 if it means anything i know Callum Urch from the Western Jets who attended the draft camp and he said that the only club that he didnt speak to were the Kangaroos, and alot of other players didnt speak to them either, so does that tell you we may not be able to afford any big name players.

Gees.., You mean we can not afford 18 year new draftees? I didn't know any 18 year old new draftees are big name players. Our club is working fine, although restricted in some way, but not to the extend that we can't draft 18 year olds. Who is Callum Urch?

The club spoke to players they were interested in. If they didn't talk to Callum Urch then he didn't figure in their drafting intentions. I don't know any names but Laidley spent at least a whole day interviewing prospective draftees. It's also not uncommon for clubs to draft players even though they didn't talk to them before hand.

Callum Urch is a medium sized left footed defender.

Made All Australian at the national championships this year

Good user of the ball.

Obviously Laidley and the rest of the boys think that we have enough of this kind of player or are looking at others who fit the same bill

Have said this a few times, but to me, the draft camp is not a true reflection of how these kids will be as footballers.

The greatest work needs to be done in your second - fourth round picks in my opinion. Usually the top 10-15 players are usually pretty much agreed upon by most clubs. But its the players after that where the true worth of a recruiter comes into play.

This is where Laidley is hopefully doing his homwork. Get a heap of joices this year, do your homework, draft them and then coach and teach them to become great players. Great in theory, lets see if Laidley can deliver it in reality.

David Hale had 14 teams that talked to him at last year's draft camp (and even before the draft) and North wasn't one of those.......

Just goes to show.

Callum Urch is my best mate, and he played for Spotswood before being taken by the Western Jets.
He spoke to 14 clubs, the only to that he didnt speak to were the bulldogs and North, He has had osteotis pubis, but is a great half back , b.pocket prospect and is a ready made footballer and the Crows said to him that if he is still there at pick number 14 they will take him. i suspect he will get taken in the top 10!

I reckon that Ben Robbins will be the last recycled player to be picked up by North, because it is the start of a new era now.... but hey im not complainin we`ve had good service out of the recycled players. ROBBINS YOU LITTLE GUN.

That's my understanding too. It was an argument used against agents at this point of their careers.

It's probably changed now but I think Shannon Grant and Anthony Rocca both nominted high salaries ($60grand+) before their draft in order to avoid getting picked up by Sydney. It didn't end up working for them, and they probably are all on standard salaries to avoid possible corruption of the drafting process.
