With most of us either keen to trade for O'meara and/or Clark (2 or 3 threads on the subject) and with 5 senior listed players and 4 rookies still out of contract plus a couple of rumours about various other contracted players I thought I'd find out what people think about the trade currency that we have available this trade season and how each may get used to optimize our standing during the trade week.

Uncontracted Players

Crowley- I dont think he is worth anything on the open market and there are no rumours to suggest anyone wants him. The best we could hope for is that GWS take him and we would possibly get a band 4-5 compo.

Bollenhagen- After a bad season injury wise I doubt he would attract any interest for a trade.

VB- Could be used as a sweetner in any trade but wouldnt attract more than probly a 4th round pick in a trade alone.

Walters- Has potential thats for sure and has shown a little bit of it which doesnt hurt. Could maybe attract a 2nd/3rd rounder or definitely used as a deal sweetner. Our second rounder plus Walters for Clark.

Grover- Too old for any other team to be interested so wouldnt attract a trade.

Rookies

Roberts- Wouldnt attract any interest
Lower- Will be offered a contract
Pearce- Young, 26 games to his name and he is far from a terrible footballer. Probly wouldnt attract more than a 3rd round pick but could be used to sweeten any deal.
Sibosado- Three weeks ago nothing but 1 game can make a difference. His x-factor makes him more attractive and could definitely be used in a deal to secure Clark.

Contracted Players

These guys are contracted and history shows that these guys do not usually get traded but there are a lot of rumours about so I'd thought I'd say what I think they are worth anyhow.

Griffen- Rumours that he wants to return to Adelaide and with a number of teams looking for a number one ruckman he would definitely attract something on the open market especially with rival teams bidding. Could definitely attract a second round pick but Port's 3rd rounder wouldnt be too far off the mark especially if a deal is already done in securing Clark as his becomes more of a list clogger to us.

Clarke- The jewel in the crown so to speak. Has openly said he doesnt want to be traded and we would be mad to trade him, but... In reality he is the only possible chance that we could secure O'Meara and if that was the case is the board that keen on O'Meara that we would trade him? (I'm hoping we don't)

Interested to hear what you guys think?

Good summation, though I think that Sibo slipped under the Dog's radar somewhat and because most recruiters would regard the game as something of a dead rubber they would be guided more by his indifferent WAFL form.

I think you should include Duffield, Mayne and Ibbotson amongst the contracted players. All second rounders imo, though Ibbo might be higher.

I wonder if Griffin would be willing to go to GWS, would our first round pick and Griffin be enough to get Omeara?

Excuse my ignorance, but why can't we trade Moller and Head to GWS, in return for O'Meara ?? It would make more sense to me IMHO, as Moller and Head are both from NSW and O'Meara is from WA. Both are highly rated, untried (underage for 2012) and talented players. Fair swap?

The other 7 players in the mini draft seem to be pretty decent, rekon if we can give up a little for pick 5 or 6 in the mini draft we would be winning.

No where near enough.

Also I don't think GWS want draft picks... But our new Compo pick.

Compo Pick + Griffin + Ibbotson or Duffield + Keplar for O'Meara

Probably still wouldn't be enough....

Something along these lines might do it.

Even possibly Walters added in there too in place of someone? Who knows. Of course - we're drawing the long bow though.

Nope not fair. Because other teams will be willing to offer more.

We don't have the depth to give away that many players, it would be crazy. With the delistings and the retirements we would be drafting 8-9 players in a very weak draft.

AFAIK technically they're on scholarship and I don't think we can trade them until such time they're on our list.

Yeah I think you're right Dormammu. Could we include the relinquishment of drafting rights for scholarship players in a trade though? Not saying we should, but is it even permitted? Then GWS can draft them with their early picks next year.

You could always have an understanding with GWS that we wouldn't take them, but it couldn't be official I'd say

Well, the AFL did bend the rules to allow us to upgrade Sibo and Shep for the last game, and they're keen to help out GWS wherever they can (and getting two NSW lads would be good for marketing), so it's not entirely impossible I suppose.

Like ya thinkin' kp, but there'd be a God-almighty stink if the AFL thought the auction was compromised (which it would be) and to be penalised any picks in the 2012 ND:eek:.

Then again, they're keen to help out GWS wherever they can .......

If they weren't scholarship players with us they'd be zone selections with GWS. That was potentially the only way the AFL could stiff us with them but they let all current NSW scholarship players continue with their current arrangement and any kids from then on could just be GWS zone selections.

I guess hypothetically we could just.. not draft them and then GWS could claim them under the zoning policies. There wouldn't have to be any shifty contracts or anything, we could just have a handshake agreement with GWS not to draft them.

It would still probably be a long shot, because we have so little to trade with and there would be too wide a gap with whatever we "officially" traded for the number 1, 17 year old in the country, versus the number 2 (say Crouch or Kennedy).

The AFL Investigation committee would be on to it like a flash.

We'd be mad to not pick up Moller and Head, Moller's a top 5 draft pick by himself. AFL would have changed the rules on us already if they were going to do it. Moller will be a great ruck/forward in 5 years. So whem Sandi retires, Clarke will become number 1 and Moller number 2. He will be a gun.

Sounds a lot for an somehow unproven player. But GWs are perhaps the best way to get something for Griffin. He will get his opportunities, probably more money then elsewhere and fit to the age of the midfielder they recruited, thinking ruckmen need a little longer to develop. Can carry their ruck for ~5 years. Not many good ruckmen available for trade...

I agree with Shauremann if Griffin wants to leave Freo, GWS may give us a decent draft pic for him. Maybe early first round, thus helping us to either snare O'Meara or Clarke.

A mature ruckman is crucial to a new club and GWS would be silly to have a couple of 18 year olds carry the work load all year.

Take it with a big grain of salt but I've heard 3rd hand that Richmond officials have met with Walters. Apparently a deal was all but done before Harvey got sacked so things might change. Didn't say what we would get but I'm thinking a pick upgrade.

I think it's very premature to say that Moller would be a top 5 pick in a superdraft. It's about time to put an end to all the Jaeger O'meara trade discussions. It is massively unlikely that we will win the rights to his services.
