Not a big rap for this tbh.
Better for them to be honest, I think. There are plenty of mature reasons why a young man would sincerely say their lives are about more than football and they would play and develop better in their home state.

Ignorance is bliss, eh?

If you don't see that this sort of stuff sets a dangerous precedent, and would affect the wider AFL competition, then you've got the blinkers on.

Sounds like some would prefer a VFL competition...

Interesting McDonald saying he'd love to go to Adelaide.

I admire Perkins honesty, because I think a lot are in a similar boat but are not confident enough about getting picked up if they say the truth.

That being said, I am a bit worried about the resilience of someone who isn't prepared to make that kind of sacrifice for his career.

I think we are in the position where we are coaching kids to lie and the interview process is now more about trying to figure out how dishonest they are instead of having an honest conversation and finding people who would be a good fit for respective clubs.

It is what happens in reality, Crows benefit from a lot of players who want to go home as well, which is in reality the same kind of attitude as Perkins but they haven't wasted 2 or more years of a club by being dishonest with the club and then bailing as soon as possible.

btw, I would prefer a VFL competition because it would give me access to 22 games a year, I do not hate the AFL but the AFL is rigged to be a game of ratings and profits, in this corporate lingo land you have these abominations like the free ride clubs get in NSW and QLD and your club and mine has to try and compete with one arm tied behind our back.

We as supports just have to battle our way through the mire of bullshit and try and get as much enjoyment as we can out of it.

If we go Hollands, I’m really hoping Cox or Reid make it to 11. I think GWS are our only hurdle at this stage. * will only pick 1 tall, I highly doubt Crows go tall again, which leaves the giants. I’d be happy with a Perkins or Powell type, but I’d really like to add a highly rated tall.

Let’s face the facts whoever we select with our 1st and 2nd pick MUST MUST MUST play Round 1 no excuses the supporters must have something to look for mind you even it’s a 5pm game in WA against the Eagles or Dockers

I prefer honesty, and understand why some of these kids don't want to move states, but there are some big advantages to moving away and challenging yourself in a new environment. Coming from the country, there wasn't much choice but to move if you wanted to follow academic/work/sporting pathways when there is limited opportunity at home. I realize that there are multiple teams here, but list spots are limited and the draft necessitates that you need to be able to accept the chance that you are given, you cant pick and choose.
I guess the real test of maturity will come when/if he is drafted to a team away from home. Best of luck to him.

Personally I think it's a bit young to conscript young players to leave home and move across the country. Period.

For every Chris Judd who adapts swimmingly (being a best in league talent in a strong side probably helps get you through a few teething issues too) there'd be a zillion unseen kids who struggle with their move across the country with little to show for it at the end of their brief AFL career.

Moving at an age equivalent to the end of a degree, apprenticeship or qualification circa 20-21yo would be much better for all parties imo.

But of course this will never happen. The machine would be far too scared of losing potential money-spinners to other pursuits.

Anyway a topic for another day.
