Perkins definitely draft tampering and wouldn't fly in the NBA, NFL etc.

Nothing will happen though, plenty have done tthe same both to stay in Vic or the opposite, with no action taken.

Rubbish.

It would be nice but it's not essential - if for example we've opted for a KPP they may take time to develop to where they can handle the rigours of AFL football.

If we draft Hollands he may not be ready to go post ACL until later in the season.

Yes it would be nice to see early debuts but it's far from essential. We're looking at drafting 10 year players - not R1 2021 players.
I am nervous about drafting somebody at 2 (3) that is injured.

He doesn't have to play round one, but it would be nice if he was able to. Drafting injured players gets into more speculative territory for mine.

Definite no to any player that has any injury concerns at that age.

We have number 2 ffs, no need for any speculative or "hope" recovers type selection.

Pick the player who is fit and proven and use later picks if required (like we did Perez) for more unknown quantities.

With news coming through that Perkins is going to Essendon, I've changed my opinion on his comments about not wanting to play interstate. It's clear to me now that he is a soft mommas boy who probably sleeps with the light on. He has made a mockery of the whole system and I hope the AFL suspends him for a year and fines Essendon for draft tampering.

It's a good thing he is being drafted to Essendon now instead of 10 years ago, as I can't imagine him being too fond of needles. He'll probably request a trade to another VIC club if he sees a spider in the changerooms.

Actually has happened multiple times in both those leagues. Just this year in the NBA, James Wiseman refused to work out for the Timberwolves (who held the number one pick) because he didn't want to be picked by them and get stuck behind their All-Star center in Karl-Anthony Towns.

In 2004, the San Diego Chargers in the NFL held pick 1 and Eli Manning, the top QB prospect at that time, flat out told the team he wouldn't play for them if they picked him. They ended up picking him anyway and he got traded 45 minutes later, never putting on a Chargers jersey. Neither player nor clubs were penalised in these scenarios.

Countless other draft prospects in the AFL over the years would have told interstate clubs they'd prefer to stay in their home state, as you've said. Perkins was just open enough to spill it on national radio and is now getting flamed non-stop for having a mentality that plenty of other players (including Bailey Smith recently) have also had.

If it happens , it’ll give us ammo for many years to come against *

How do you know he didn't say that because of us? I doubt Sydney (3) or GC (5) would draft him? Cause I don't understand who that comment is meant to scare off if he's already going to Essendon.

Source on this news? I can't seem to see it anywhere other than Tom Browne and his stories are anything but solid.

I personally think he does go to them, but if there's a reliable source confirming that they'll very likely take him then we can all move on from him at 11.

If there isn't any concrete information from someone robust - then there's still a decent chance he gets through to us. Bet it was Clayton who told reporters "I wish I was Archie Perkins because he's so cool" too

That said, the high draft picks that turn out the best tend to play almost immediately. Judd, Martin, Hodge, Goddard, etc all played 15+ games in their first year.
Jy played 13 but hurt his shoulder or he would have played more. I think he has missed one game since.

No it’s not. He was asked what his preferred option was and it was to stay in Vic. If he gets picked up by an interstate club, he said he would go. If he was refusing to leave the state I would agree with you, but his not.

Let’s not pretend he is the first kid to say he would prefer to stay in their home state. He is just one of the first who had the balls to be honest.

He didn't just say he'd prefer to stay home, that should be obvious. He said he wouldn't be as committed. Its different.
