Burgan had him as chance at 52 for us...

63 – HAWTHORN – JORDAN JONES
Geelong Falcons, VIC, Tall defender, June 29, 1990, 189.4cm, 85.7kg
(Draft range: 39-not selected)

Jones will be strongly considered at No.50 and No.63 by the Hawks. Adelaide (60) and the Swans (61) have also shown strong interest and could spoil Hawthorn's chances. West Coast at No.52 is also a genuine chance, with Geelong (No.49) an outsider. Jetta, Hunt, Kade Klemke, Shane Page, Savage, Tom Simpkin, Tom Hill, Dawson, Daly, Martin and Bruest are all potential options for the Hawks.

Jones is a good players. Strarted off the season in good style but tore a shoulder had to have surgery and didnt have much impact.
In the champs he towled up Jack Watts.

He is a key backman but at 190cm probley a bit short and should play as the 2nd or 3rd tall, Can also play up forward and in the mid.

He sets up play from the backline and loves to take a run.

I was abit pissed that we didnt take Walters but I know some ppl involved with AFL clubs and they dont rate him highly. Tests poorly for speed (3.10+ for 20m).

Jones is apparently a good bet to make it, a very solid HBF type. The problem I have with the selection is that we have enough of his type and very little small forward options (although admittedly Walters is more of a mid).

And lets not forget 2yrs ago we were all upset we didnt take Collard at 29. Look how that turned out...

Sincerely very very happy.

Smith at 36 is a massive steal.

Indifferent about not taking a small forward, but expect to take one or 2 in the rookie draft [ie john bennell if he lasts]

Very good to hear that bit. At 189cm he can be another tall midfielder for us too. With Will Schofield leaning towards more of a forward role I can see why we might want his replacement down back

Overall its been a fantastic draft for us. The fact is we passed Walters up 4 times and in the end never wanted him. I got a feeling we were gonna take Jordan Lisle before Hawthorn stole him

Its a bit early for a small forward I guess when Wirra has earmarked that role for atleast the next 2 years. We must be looking forward to next years draft and probably have a crumber ready to pick next year. We need a crumber but do we need one to play for us in Round 1 2009. I dont think so

Also with how long they took - Id say Jetta was where they were going, and after he went they mulled it over and probably decided to either wait for a crumber next year, or see what comes up in the rookie draft... clearly just didnt think Walters could make it at AFL... we'll see I guess

We did very well indeed fellas.

Be very happy with that!

Shuey is a very good bet to play 150 games. Quick inside midfielders are hard to find.

Swift = bargain

Smith = massive bargain. Burns players off ala Wojo.

Jones = Woodhouse special, he knows what he is doing. We overlooked Walters 4 times for a reason.

Bennel went at 35

Agree. I'm happy, just initially somewhat shocked because we overlooked Walters.

There should be some small forward types in the rookie draft if we are desperate aswell.
