Draft Day Thread

weegirls have been winding up Rich for the last two years making him believe they will fullfill his dream of playing for them then they toss him aside at the last minute and somehow we are to blame that he's crushed? I feel terribly sorry for Nic Nat, he seems like such a nice boy. He doesn't deserve to be slimed.
I agree.

Nothing like the realisation you aren't as good as what you think you are.

Rich has two options, he can continue to slack off like he did this year thinking his work has been done, sulk, and get depressed or whatever, or he can actually do something about it and prove everyone wrong. I'm not sure he has that fortitude.

And besides, his face just screams "special ed classroom", so we definitely did not want. Dumb and ugly. I think a good call.

He's quicker than all your mids (and all ours aswell) :thumbsu: (Bar Hill and Ash Smith)

Hill, Hinkley ....lets us get Hall and Walters going through - you can't catch them all TOA ;)

I think the WC have done very well but I would be a tad worried about Nic Nat's abilty to adapt to AFL football.

He appears to have to concentrate when he kicks or bounces the ball ....might get away with that at WAFL - you won't at AFL.

NicNat would be able to run down Hall and Walters with a broken ankle, neither that quick.

Would be a good race between NicNat, Hinkley, Hill and Ash Smith though. Get the feeling derbies could get quite exciting in the future.

Dont you guys worry about NicNat, he'll be just fine :p

NicNat will get lost out on Subi, no need to worry ;)

Walters will get some pace back with Fitness, Hall is pretty quick.

Not saying they are slow as such, Hall especially uses dash and is quicker than he tests. But NicNat is Judd-like :p

I think Hall is a good get at 70-odd or whatever. Havent seen that much of him but off what I've seen he just needs to iron out a couple of things and he'll be a good find for that range of pick.

Because he's never played there before? :o
If you can't understand simple logic then don't bother replying to any of my posts. I'm sick of you replying to my posts with stupidity.

Hill will elude him (ie you cant hit what you cant catch) ...anytime Nic Nat tries to tackle Walters it will be a head high tackle ;)

Bring it on.

Haven't been back through the thread but I recall being gutted when we took Ballantyne at 21.

Looked surprisingly good in the handful of games he played this year, will be interesting to see how he goes next season.

Walters, Jetta, DeBoer, Sibosado and Pearce would all be nice with our next two picks. Maybe Benjamin or Tom Hill.

This post is interesting from Chris prior to the 4th round.

Incredible that we ended up with 4 of the players he mentioned. :thumbsu:

I think it's a bit early to call, I wasn't really blown away by his performances...Though I'm more than happy to wait for a full preseason.

Suban who was taken around the same mark has certainly shown more, Swift too would have been nice.

Interesting to read through the whole thread and see how emotional we all get on draft day.

I recommend a read through for everyone prior to draft day this year - there was some seriously silly overreactions in here -

3/4's of us were going out to slit our wrists for selecting Ballantyne @21.

Zach Clarke was just another VIC ruckman who will go crying home to mummy.

Who the **** is Ruffles??

Arent we all glad we are NOT the ones choosing the draft order :)

Looks like I was talking about the Walters/Bucovaz picks there. The fact that we got three guys in the rookie draft, who I would have gladly taken in the fourth round, shows how good our rookie draft really was.

It's always fun to read back on these threads and see how things have changed, in particular Ballantyne and Suban. For all the crap I got this season in regards to Suban, this thread would suggest that I was defending him before it became cool....:p

You are a genuine Nostradamus. Not sold on Troy Taylor as yet, but i respect your opinion.

Im looking forward to Hinkley winning the Doig next year.:D

Looking back at the draft though ...I did want Rich over Hill - so as soon as that was called I knew we had taken a chance on upside versus a likely solid player.

I had 2 sauces (soy and HP) ...one a WAFL Colts Official had told me that if Freo passes on Rich they will regret it for a decade. Milko who speaks to folks within the Cardies had the opposite view that Hill was determined, dedicated and was going to be special.

I still to this day think we reached on Ballantyne, and when we didn't take a KP early I was hoping these kids that I have only seen bios on BF and youtube clips of Clarke/Suban - you wonder.

The tone of the thread changes when we get Walters late ...plus as I have said once the rookie list was complete if you had of swapped the names about most of us (aside from KP's) were reasonably happy.

It will be the same this year - if we take 4-5 picks and no KP ...I'll be extremely worried.

We have a good record at the draft table ....we will judge this in 3 or 4 years time.

I may be taking the piss a bit here - but hey it is BF.

I'll back them in and welcome our new recruits.

What people also need to remember when reading this is it just banter ....we are all excited and sitting at our PC's with nothing to do so we all take the piss a bit (plus to be fair I had not gone to bed at that point in time).

Clarke was always going to draw Warnock references and Frodo early was a bit annoying as I was praying Swift would drop.

I still remember each round after the 3rd or 4th thinking yes we are going to get Walters, De Boer, Cockie, Sibo (Quayle really rated him) or Pearce .....Buccovaz Doh , Hall Doh. In the end it worked out OK - to me the rookie draft is almost another ND.

Plus Broughton who? Woo Hoo

I didn't have a problem with the Suban selection at the time (partly because I was too busy sticking pins in my Ballantyne voodoo doll ;)) but I'm not a fan of taking mature age players early.

If I was a West Coast supporter I'd be furious if Jetta goes at 7 this year.
