How can you not?

Because they aren't at Freo yet, and we don't get to make the decisions. Whoever comes to us I will support. I'm not a fan of trading away the best possible young talent for overrated players, though.

How many people had their heart set on Rich last year? For those who did it seems pretty pointless.

Well when you put it like that I wouldn't make that trade.

I know Swift is probably going to be a quality player (not that I would admit that to any eagles fans) but I couldn't be happier with Suban. Not only is he a gun in the making but his leadership and aggression and all that jazz is mucho impressive for a rookie.

Quality young man all round and like plenty of others I reckon he's our future captain. And unlike Swift he doesn't look like a Chupa Chup.
Yep, is a gun with an amazing kick. never goes to ground either

Mmmm, no. Suban wins.

No Suban has had more opportunities - Swift has played some good games too.

Don't get me wrong Suban's leadership and demeanour on the field is excellent, however it will be a few seasons before you could say A is better than B or vice versa.

Suban is all kinds of win.

I love his game aggression... Plus he dosent mind kicking a goal on the run from about 50...

No nonsense type. :thumbsu: Excellent rookie season.

Gee they're both very good and it would have been great if we could have jagged Swift as well. I think had the Eagles not trumped us we would have taken him with our next pick and not Balla's so early.

It would seem fate has smiled upon us regardless and we have done very well in both the ND and the rookie Draft last year.

I'm told the entire Fremantle table gave a moan when WC called out Swift.

Personally I was happy with the Ballantyne pick at the time, and I've been happy with it ever since. Given how the rest of the draft played out, versus what the general consensus around here was, I'm more than comfortable backing the club in with the 'we want him, he wont be available later, we're taking him now' strategy (Note: That seems to be how they approached the Stephen Hill pick as well. At the time everyone suggested Hill would've been available to us later on - he wouldn't of - so we should have taken Rich). BF may actually explode during this years ND as a lot of teams will be taking that approach.

I think you'll be spot on prattsta, in that there will be a lot of fans on team boards going into melt down over their club's choice of players.
With GC and WSyd just around the corner and the impact that will have on selections, the draft may not go as expected, and some surprises are in store me thinks.

This'll definitely be one of the more interesting drafts.

Apart from Sibasado your rookie draft was exceptional. I can't understand why clubs, particularly the Eagles, didn't pick up either De Boer or Pearce..both gems! The normal draft was good as well. I reckon the best Freo has had. (Overall of course as getting Pavlich was great in anyone's language)

you dont rate sibo? or are you fishing?

No not fishing. He may well turn out to be a good player but I saw him a couple of times last year when he managed to get a league game and he appeared hopeless. Didn't seem to have a clue where to go or what to do. Hardly touched the ball at all...reminded me of a larger version of the bloke we drafted, Bedford. Hope he does come good as I hate seeing kids rated and then delisted but he would have to improve 200% on the games I saw.

Think theres a few posts with his Seniors stats in the player watch thread. Not sure on the exact numbers, but they appeared decent, and ill definately keep more of an eye on him this year.

Why the **** take him at 21, it's not like anyone would take him at 22 or 23.

Suban, never heard of him.

Ugh, I wanted Robinson

I'm suspecting we may take Damien Peveril to round out the perfect draft so far for me so far.

He gets most of his goals from marks on the lead though which he's not going to be able to do at AFL level.

Yarran >>>>>>>>> Jetta >>>>>>>> Richardson >>>>>>>> Ballntyne. That makes him the 4th best small in WA in my book.

Ruffles???? You're kidding, right?

Ruffles?

Hahahaha....choice:D

May I just defend myself and say I was more gobsmacked about the kid's name, than the kid himself. I mean seriously, what sort of name is Ruffles??? Esp for an AFL player...

(Not that I has an opinion on the kid himself having never heard of him prior to draft day last year... ;))

yeah quality..... wrapped with every one of those boys that werent rated... my favourite comment.. "suban?....never heard of him" lol classic

I was pleasantly surprised by Ballantyne's form in his handful of games but I'll also be surprised if he's better than Zaharakis and a couple of other players taken at 20-odd which suggests we took him too early.

I still think we should have waited atleast until pick 24, if Suban had been picked at 23 we would have been f**ked.

its semantics really, we will never know what would have happened if suba was picked at 23, we may have got robinson at 24 etc who knows. again though with balla, we needed a crumbing forward, we got what looks to be a good one. he has mongrel in him, is lightning and loves a goal. has a good kick on him too, so i guess we can say we filled a void. give him a good preseason and i think you'll will be even more pleasantly surprised
