Bucovaz

Date of birth: 2/11/90
Height: 188cm
Weight: 88kg
Club: Geelong Falcons

Bio: A medium defender/forward with a long and penetrating kick, Bucovaz reads the play well and is a good kick for goal. He also represented Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Vic Country coach Robert Hyde says: Bucovaz played one game and he’s pretty handy. I remember he kicked the first goal and he was fairly lively. He strained his groin and he wasn’t available for the next two games, but he’s hard at it, he’s got good hands, he’s strong through the midfield with his attack on the ball. He just needs to work on his first five metres. He’d be suited to playing half-back to half-forward and could roll into the middle.

i wonder if Pearce, DeBoer, Benjamin or even Cockie will get even get drafted.

in my 20 second analysis, looks like a Chris Mayne type....hopefully:

Ben Bucovaz
Ben Bucovaz is a chance to go in the 2008 AFL National Draft, and if he doesn't go there will likely be taken with a high pick in the 2008 Rookie Draft. Maybe the Cats draft him and he becomes another Cameron Ling, someone who was the full forward for Geelong in the TAC Cup but then became a midfielder at AFL level.

From The Geelong Advertiser: Testing time for Bucovaz

Despite playing as a key forward at TAC Cup level, at just over 188cm, Bucovaz won't have the height to play key position in the AFL.

But Falcons regional manager Michael Turner said Bucovaz was a better body-type for the future of the AFL anyway. ``AFL players are actually getting smaller. The game's all about speed and repeat these days and Ben's one of those kids that's hard to match up _ he can play back, he can play forward,'' Turner said.
