Draft Day Thread

so you admit you were being a little overly dramatic IP?

That's what I read...
;)

We've gone quick creative ball users who can win their own ball.
And a very agile ruckman.
1 Kpb would've been good...but if we can grab Sibisado in the rookie draft that will sort that out...

Did anyone take Davis from SA?

I don't know much about the last 3 picks, which is why I'm not working in the recruiting dept. They are all small and I had hoped for more locals. Thought Anthony was a chance as a ready made player given the number of holes in the list. Still the guys that get paid have done their jobs, we the supporters will see the results in the coming years.

Going to go for a swim and take it all in.

My god there are some serious whingers in here, perhaps, just maybe, those who spend the whole season watching kids play and those who tell them what we need...

Well said Stronzo. Alot of overly emotional comment.

We need to back in the team and see what unfolds down the line. The rookie draft may well follow a different tack and balance up the drafting. Realistically we wont see how the picks are for a couple years, so lets wait and see.

The engine room seems in good hands... really shocked that Pearce wasn't snapped up by someone...

Glad Port, Essendon and Carlton overlooked Rich in a way. If they all thought he was the superstar the media say he is im sure they would have taken him regardless of needs etc.

Im feeling okay about it all, still disappointed we didn't take trengove or mckernan... would have been nice and symbolic to snap up mckernan with 24...

In my mind im telling myself we took walters with 21 and ballantyne with 53:D seems a whole lot better that way...

So keen to see Ibbo, Mundy, Palmer, Hill, Schammer, Hinkley, Hasleby... Great combo...Bring on the nab cup so we can see these guys

People do also have the right to get wound up though, especially with this clubs history...

I think the emotion comes more from not so much having a guy like ballantyne but taking him with 21... seems like a waste but i hope he proves me wrong...

Stronzo you know how to hit the nail on the head :thumbsu::D:thumbsu::D

That is actually a great call.

Note about Chris Hall's Draft Camp (according to FFC.com)
- Ranked 1st for the Beep-test (14.6)
- Ranked 5th for 3km time trial (10min 42sec)

Got skills too. Speculative but I am pretty happy with that.

I'm quite happy with our draft. We got speed and skill. Exactly what we were lacking this year.

I'm also really looking forward to the rookie draft. Sibosado, Tom Hill, Gaertner, Milne and Silvagni are all tall key position players. And according to Burgan we have interest in both Sibosado and Hill. Also more midfielders like DeBoer, Pearce, Sheahan and Klemke are all still available. Should be good.

I was concerned about how many small guys we drafted, but they're not super small

We drafted 5 in the 174 to 181cm group, 5 foot 8-10. Hall is listed at 175cm through to 181cm depending on web site

As written on another thread, these guys all look clean and skillful. Hall won beep test at draft camp - big engine. Suban whilst considered overweight was 4th in agility and captain of Vic Country i think.

Finally, we just lost a few of our smaller guys in Carr (178), farmer (175), Black (177) Mcmanus (181) and Bell (150 odd:)

I have to admit pick 21 might have been a shock, but he would not have lasted until pick 37. Suban is a great player, you have scored a good one there.

It really looks like the Dockers have gone with SPEED, which I think is a good thing. There is some really good local talent still available for the PSD and Rookie draft. You can score some players like Klemke, Pearce and Cockie.

Im still shocked that we took Ballantyne at Pick 21.

I just think we could have taken a good sized mid with some pace with picks 21 and 24. We only took one, considering how many picks we had, I think the focus should have been stocking our midfield.

And couldnt Pearce have been taken over someone like Ruffles? Pearce has a big body, is ready to go and despite the fact he plays good footy, he has a bit of mongrel about him.

We've taken 1 mid out of our 1st 4 picks?

I can get my head around the policy, if there is one.

But Welcome to all the kids

Really happy with the Hall pick to be honest.

Played seniors this year by the sounds of it, and going by those performances, could easily play midfield next year.

If Bucovaz can grow like 3cm or more, he could be a good KPP. He's got the skills, his speed isn't too slow.
I know nothing about him. But looks like he has a fantastic first 2-3 steps which is obviously why his 20m times are so good. Add to that, looks very well balanced and a really nice kick.

The only pick I am really disappointed with is Ballantyne. Seems like a massive waste to me. Where did Blight go?

Surprised Pearce did not get picked up. Would have loved for us to get him with a late pick. Is ready to go. Hard to see why he wasn't picked. I rate him quite highly.

Suban was an excellent choice IMO. Was rated from late 1st round to 25, so I think we've done well there.

Not surprised about DeClanger at all.

The story about him not nominating last year was all bollocks IMO. I'd say it was far more likely he was told no-one was interested, and it looks like it was proven this year.

As a wise poster on here has said, along with myself, if you can't kick, you can't play. It's as simple as that!

Blight went after 37 I think.

Small defenders always slide. Also the fact he turned up to draft camp way overweight wouldn't have helped

Atleast 2 of Drum, Dodd, Campbell, Murphy and Johnson need to take a big step forward.

Hammer. Nail. Head.

We've addressed our major weakness (mids, pace, 2nd ruck) this draft and must now look to within to address our KPD stocks.

Seriously, those blokes dom has mentioned there have been around long enough. It's time they all stood up.
