List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

I just listened to the latest road to the draft with Twomey. He said some rate Scrimshaw top 5 although his opinion was that was a bit early. Reading the tea leaves Scrimshaw is a 5-10 pick & could slip to us if we keep 10. Having the potential to be a tall mid prob sees a team taking him closer to 5 than 10 though IMO. Also from the podcast Cal mentioned GWS are likely to at least try & get pick 1 so they can get......McGrath. McGrath looks to be a certain top 3 pick now.

My latest attempt at the top 10:

Pick 1 - Ess - McLuggage (best avail, needs)
Pick 2 - Bris - McGrath (best avail, needs)
Pick 3 - Freo - English (desperate need for a quality ruck post Sandi, he's clearly the best & won't last past the first dozen picks)
Pick 4 - GC - Scrimshaw (needs & a classic GC type they pick)
Pick 5 - GC - Bowes (Carl bid. Forced pick, their pick they got from Melb moves up)
Pick 6 - Carl - Brodie (best avail, needs)
Pick 7 - Rich - SPS (best avail, needs)
Pick 8 - GWS - Marshall (spent time in the academy, they obv like him)
pick 9 - Port - Taranto (best avail)
Pick 10 - StK - Ainsworth (best avail, needs (if he becomes a mid))

I'm predicting we will walk away with either Taranto, Ainsworth or SPS if we are to keep 10.
Would be a dream.
Still a lot to play out, i.e. Tiges #6 will go to the Suns and then things may work differently.

I still can't believe we got Gresh at pick 14, which turned into 18. I mean, his second half of the year was huge, he was instrumental in several wins. His poise and vision in traffic, his stoppages in the Carlton game (pretty sure he got most clearances and contested possessions of anyone on field), his goal against Geelong. He is going to be a star.
Will be top5 player from the draft.
Steal at #18

If someone was too slide reckon it would be more likely SPS, who hasn't has a great year.

Don't believe we would have any interest in picking Marshall or English

My preferences that are realistic are Ainsworth, SPS & Taranto - in that order.

Would be slightly frustrating to draft another small mid but if Ainsworth or SPS were there we would just have too.

Getting Steele will solve our big mid situation. He & Acres the beast mids. Ainsworth or SPS & Billings the class. Ainsworth has some real campaigner about him too. I'd love to get the angry little campaigner in red, white & black.

Just take the time to have a look at this vision(watch it all), note its from last year as an underager.
We must be having a real look due to his size and ability to push into the middle.
Some of his kicking looks average in this, not sure if it has progressed.

I'm firmly on the Jy Simpkin bandwagon ala Gresh & Coughlan last year.

Think he'll be a bit of a steal due to that leg injury.

Whos he like? I didn't take much notice of him last year.
More of a small fwd/mid, can't really comment just have family ties with the kid.

Went alright as a kid playing seniors in the GVFL for Mooroopna IIRC

The more I think about it the more I think sps will fall, he's gone very quite lately. As the year goes on it seems as though freo are leaning towards English at 3, sps has the talent but hasn't stringed together an outstanding season, I reckon Taranto and scrimshaw are pushing ahead and teams could go past him leaving him fall into our lap at 10. Would we be happy taking him? Seems he's kinda like what we need. Haven't seen much of him but I've heard about him. Who does he play like?

Cant see him picked at 3 anymore.
Theres many guys much better.

SPS is not tall, or strongly built, but can win his own ball in heavy congestion, or play an outside or forward role, has elite skills and is very dual-sided (some say he goes onto his left too much) and is quick. He's somewhat like an Akermanis I guess, from an attributes POV.

Would be concerned that he's supposedly just coasted this half of the season though and the talk that he wants to stay in WA.

May be one of those who peaked at 16 or 17yo, or may be one of those who knows he's going to get drafted and is just waiting to get onto an AFL list before he pulls his finger back out again.

If it was out of him or Ainsworth, I'd prefer Ainsworth slid to our pick, even though SPS probably fits our needs slightly better. I'm more confident/sure that Ainsworth will make it and not be a bust, or want out after a few years.

Wouldn't we slide to Pick 11 under this scenario?
