List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

You don't trade a superfluous player and a lower pick for a higher pick.

It just doesn't happen.
Pick 7 + Gilbert = Pick 4.
Something like that- any merit?
Better pick for us, Acres becomes the big man in the middle for us.

Won't happen. We don't particularly have anyone whose trade value is greater than their worth to our team that anyone would take.

Seems the top end is dominated by Academy picks, so that's unfortunate for everyone else, but it means the bidding process and trade period will be very interesting.

Overall I think it's a better draft than last year's, but again it's marred by a poor Vic Metro contingent. They're the bedrock of the draft, and they're not going to be great again this year.

Bishop, Skippos; concur?

You've summed it up pretty well Barrels. I think it'll be a just a tad better than last year, a lot more midfielders and we could see less Key position players taken early. I think we'll probably have more rucks than usual.

No real cream in the crop that makes me want certain players like Parish/Hopper etc those types of mids.

I don't agree with the Vic Metro statement, they won't win the champs- BUT they're much better than last year.

Better yes, but still poor compared to previous years.

Brandon Parfitt from the NT seems to be very classy, and may go around our pick. I know, at 16 or 17 whenever it is they get measured he is 177, same as Gresh, but if he has enough class his height is not that important.

Seems to be a big contingent of short people! Not sure we can handle any more?
What do you class as a midget?

I wouldn't be too worried about height. Acres and Ross are big units and Billings and Dunstan and aren't exactly dwarfs and have strong bodies.

If we had pick 4 last year I wouldn't of even hesitated taking Parish at 181cm when Francis who is 191 was the next pick.

I'd say Clarke is right about where we may be picking, and Venables has really shot out of the blocks...
Interesting Clarke doesn't even get a look in Anderson's first Big Board (42 mentioned) and Venables isn't in Knightmare's first top 30.

Wide open.

Probably more a comment on the number of small forwards in the early draft boards, plus SPS etc. 177 and under type range.

I know we don't need another forward, but by gum, when I pick My Boy, I champion My Boy!

Josh 'Big Bad Bustling' Begley's first two games so far have yielded;

1 - vs Tasmania: 15 touches (67% eff.), 4 marks (3 con.), 2 tackles and 6.2 goals.

2 - vs Geelong: 11 touches (73% eff.), 5 tackles, 2 marks (1 con.) and 3.1 goals.

That's an average game so far of 13 touches @ 70% effectiveness, 3 marks (2 contested), 3.5 tackles and 4.65 goals.

At about 192cm, strong and agile, I reckon he'll make a player. Fantastic effort coming from outside the initial Eastern squad!

I'll tip in again...
IMO there is potential for him to be a Big-Bodied, Hard-Hitting Midfielder in years to come.
He may be getting that chance at Eastern, but at local level in previous years he destroyed our side through the middle.
FWIW the hardest opponent I've ever had to play on - that may not be saying a hell of a lot since it's only at local COLTS level - but this bloke is a gun.

Another to think about is Tasmanian overager Nick Dodge, who's been Tassie's best so far in their two TAC Cup games.

Overlooked as a midsized forward last year, he looks to have trimmed down and is playing as a strong-bodied mid this year. He's been impressive, despite his apparent shrinkage from 182cm to 179cm...

I keep saying he reminds me of Jake Stringer, but it's because he does!

If he is at our pick grab him trade out a ruck next year and Bruce can just keep doing 10% around the ground ruck and play a flanker role like Roo is now

I'm also very bullish about Tasmanian utility Ben Mcguinness whose brother Josh was a 2014 draftee and is on the Brisbane list.

Starting as a key defender against Eastern, he also played a stint as a key forward, and ended up in the middle. Reminds me of Gilbo with his versatility, height, pace and raking left boot. Much better kick than Sam though.

A rangy 188cm lad. Courage is a highlight.

Can take a grab too.

Reminds you of Gilbo including his height , but he's 7cm shorter. ?????
I always considered Jason Blake to be exceptional for his height in key roles, and he was 189.

Last I checked, 194 - 188 = 6, but what would I know.

And the rangy frame, versatility, speed and left foot remind me of Gilbo; but hey, you go point out the one particular difference you super sleuth you.

Its Ok we can shorten Gilbert to fix it .

Big Tom De Koning is putting on an absolute clinic right now at Shepley Oval.

The Stringrays are up 86 to 29 against the Knights, and he's got 6 to half time!

An underage prospect out of Mt Martha/Padua College, there's absolutely nothing of him - he's 198cm 79kg - but he takes massive pack grabs and is bloody athletic. Takes turns in the ruck on occasion too. Something to think about.

An early smokey for "Barrels Boy" in a few years?

A comfortable owner of the title for 2017 already.

He's got 9 early in the last quarter.
