List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

Enables at 23 and SPP at 36 would give us serious explosive power in the midfield, but I'll be very happy with any 2 of Venables SPP Rotham Galluci Maibaum

Dont think we will be taking Venables, Jaxons on SS suggested Venables has some undesirable off field habbits...and one to stay away from!

Will we use 61?

I believe so pick 61 will end about 55-6 or even higher after all the academy clubs etc pass on their late picks.

Im sure Trout & co will have someone in mind - possibly Kade Ainswerth.

#86 will used to upgrade Holmes I believe.

Draft picks

#23 Gallucci or Bolton (speed)

#36 Kerr or Maiburn (developing key tall)

#61 Romenski, Aisworth or Roneky (best available)

Florence, Berry & Logue wishing to be available at #23 but unlikely.

That will mean we need to make 5 list changes before draft. All of Lee, Fisher, Shenton, Eli, Murdoch gone/rookied?

I like Powell pepper, think he's a better version of wright. More explosive and xfactor. Hits the pill at pace and can break games open kicking yes a bit iffy but in an afl environment with Lindsay Gilbee he surely improves his kicking, you can improve kicking but not many have what Powell pepper have,

Yep agreed, we need more explosive mids to go with Steven and SPP could be that, looking extra long term, he and Freeman could be dangerous together post Steven.

Agree. His ceiling is high has dustin Martin about him great fend off and explosive. Surely we take the punt on a bloke like him? One of the missing pieces to the puzzle, would take wrights place in the team as a high pressure half forward

There's always a bolter or two which means there will be a slider or two. Goddard Laverde around picks 20 a few years ago means we are a sniff of a slider at 23.
We have cleaned out the list a bit whilst adding some depth so I feel we can take a bit of a punt with our second rounders. Eg guys that are a bit raw or have missed a lot of footy the year.

Powell-Pepper looks and plays so much like Nathan Wright it's not funny. The manic running, the very dodgy kicking technique/ball drop, very questionable decision making.
I think we need clean users and good decision makers on the outside, I'm hoping we try and address some needs at Pick 23. Hopefully there's somebody left at 23 that can add some class on the outside for us.

I really like ARR's idea, of going for a high risk high reward type. We can afford a bust or two. I'm thinking a Spencer White type.

Such as? Or are you just hoping Daniel Wells' younger clone will suddenly apear for us. I'm thinking the best available will not be that outside mid everyone wants. Agree regarding P-P though.

No need to be a smartarse, was just giving my opinion.
It's not an outside mid that everyone wants, it's what the club desperately needs.

Hopefully Witherden and Simpkin are available at 23. Sounds like they could be turned into classy outside mids. Draft year injuries also mean that they are probably part of the high potential, boom-bust category of players we should be looking at.

T

ackling is elite and he's much more a midfielder then wright not as strong overhead though
For some perspective in like his 5th VFL game second for zebras against Collingwood (so AFL players ) he had 31 disposals 10 tackles and two goals and was bog

Yeah I watched that game he was enormous, atrocious weather but he made most other players including AFL listed look average.

Yep if we were really keen on getting classy high impact players we should have kept pick 10. We are going to be picking un cut gems to polish this year. We have to have patience now we have traded out of this years first round until next year. To really win the Hawks trade we need to make this years draftees work. If they bomb and the Hawks stay up it doesn't matter how good the trade looks on paper if we really just delay using our first rounder for this year until next. That's if pick 23 is a spud.

Cedric Cox should be on our radar I reckon Ghost. Played mostly off a half back flank but would look good running around on a wing. Bolton is another one, although we'd have to get very lucky for him to fall that far.

Any outside players in particular you like?

There are plenty who should not be spuds.
Players like Scharenberg who don't have much x-factor , but should be good solid players.

I agree guys like Scharenberg and Clarke etc all in that good solid citizen category. Probably prefer we go for safe that be crazy unless it's for someone with some x factor that gives a bit of an edge. Someone like Daniel Rioli so maybe.

What do people think of Jarrod Korewha or how ever you spell it. He seems like a good swingman who has really good run but is KP size. Might be a bit of a Sam Gilbert or Roberton though. His hair would make him a cult hero from day one.

Given that we start at pick 23 this year, I'm hoping for an outcome similar to last year's draft where players who were All Australian and highly placed in phantom drafts throughout the year end up falling to picks later than touted ala Tucker, Mathieson, Balic and Bonner.

Wouldn't surprise me if there are players highly ranked on phantom's that aren't so much by a number of club recruiters.
