Do you get much class at 23?
I tend to agree we need that outside speed and class so players like Florent, Bolton, Gallucci or Villis would be great but I reckon they will go with the best available slider at #23. Berry has had an interrupted year after playing well last year and Trout loves him. Griffin Logue or Rotham are both classy defensive intecept marking defenders who have spent some time in the middle, may slide through.

Dylan Clarke and Bonke and are both ball magnet contested goal kickers whom I rate. SPP provides a hard edge with a huge boot. I like the look of the GWS versatile t
all Zac Sproule just reckon there is something about him and wouldnt be upset if we bid on him. Then today I read clubs are looking at another GWS academy kid named Isaac Cummings moving into the top 30.

Its a tough choice all round for Trout and his team, but trust they will get it right!

I reckon 61 will be the Holmes upgrade. Teams negotiate for picks they're not going to use all the time, they do it to help trades look balanced to the AFL watchdog, the fans and the public.
Zac has apparently been told by Carlton that they may use their second pick on him - 25?

a guy at work who knows barrels man begley was pretty happy with the draft run. said he's been spoken to by a number of clubs, with sydney and port adelaide most interested.

said essendon were wankers and he wasn't keen on them.

If he turned out like a Brandon White style slider and we pinch him...

Good shit. Real good shit.

It was you who posted this in another thread, yeah..

26 seconds in. That is a nice!
I am very close mates with Sam and he has told me St Kilda were one of the clubs interested in the last few months although didn't interview him at the draft combine. Given clubs can't interview everyone it doesn't necessarily means we aren't keen, perhaps even the opposite if they believe his character is good enough from what they know already. 8 clubs interviewed him at the combine so I think there will be a few clubs that could pull the trigger later in the draft, hoping we get him at 61 then move over stavro and ghost there's a new ITK in town :p

I hate Essendon!

I take no pleasure whatsoever in watching any Essendon player succeed.

However…I have to admit that Dustin Fletcher was one of the best players of the past 25 years. Watching him destroy us for so many years pissed me off no end. That’s what makes this next bit so hard: Ryan Garthwaite from the Bushrangers for some reason reminds me of Fletcher, the very player that frustrated, rankled and antagonised me on so many occasions. I have to admit Garthwaite really impresses me, to the point where I am willing to forgive him for reminding me of Fletcher and believe we should make a bid on him.

Garthwaite reads the play beautifully, has a bit of pace for a bigger bloke, marks well and spoils well. Okay, his kicking style is rather ‘unique’ but he still seems to hit his targets. And his thirty metre handballs are also pretty accurate. (Did I see a 40m handball amongst his highlights?) The added bonus in bidding on Ryan would be ‘stealing’ one of GWS’s academy boys (or at the very least forcing them to pay a bit more for him). He is from Corowa which is closer to Melbourne than Canberra (let alone Sydney) so there wouldn’t be the negative ‘go home factor’ if we got him down to the Bayside area.

With Fisher and Dempster close to the end, and Roberton looking to play further up the field, Garthwaite would be an excellent third tall for us in years to come. I’m sure we could get him at pick 23, but he could still be a possibility at 36 where he would be a really good value pick.

Garthwaite and Himmelberg may be the sleepers of the tall defenders.

Brennan Cox and Maibaum would firmly be on recruiters' radars as All-Australians, particularly around pick 36, but those other two could slide to 61.

Not surprised to hear Sydney and Port showing the most interest, as they could both do with a medium-sized, Membrey-like marking target up forward.

I suspect that clubs who want him for their forward line will be more likely to go early on him than clubs who want him to mainly play midfield (like we probably do if we're interested in him), due to the fact he's probably more of a sure-thing and more proven up forward.

Re ACT Sam Fisher.

I think you will find that there will be a lot more high quality recruits coming through the system from Canberra in the coming years. GWS have really taken on the other 2 codes in Canberra and their junior development program is brilliant!

Agreed, 2017 will have a few prospects who could get picked up led by AIS academy player Jack Powell.
