I've heard a bit here in the west that the saints are keen on a couple WA boys heading into the draft ... it all comes down to who is available at our picks ...

If you just want to pop those down in an order, just somewhere around here, no stress, then feel free.

No hurry. Sun morning is fine.

Garthwaite and Himmelberg may be the sleepers of the tall defenders.

Brennan Cox and Maibaum would firmly be on recruiters' radars as All-Australians, particularly around pick 36, but those other two could slide to 61.
I also really rate himmelberg and would love to get him at 61. Hopefully he slips that far. Also I went over to the essendon board for a look-see and they actually think they can make finals/top 4! Is it me who is crazy or them? I reckon they will be lucky to get out of bottom 4 but the bookies have them shorter than us to bake the 8! Makes me sick

From my limited knowledge I am keen to see it like this.

23 - Rotham or Gullucci (If Rotham unavailable)
36 - Brennan or Maibaum
61 - Narkle (If character is cleared)

Obviously the WA and SA boys would need to pass the go home test. Simpkin is also an option at 23 but riskier and we do not have a need to a small forward who may develop into a mid. Zac Fisher at 36 may also be an option if we see Rotham as a defender.

Who knows? Impossible to get a form line on them given the hangover of their cheating, and all the list changes. They've got a few good senior players (Jobe, BJ, Kelly), some solidity in the middle group (Heppell, Hurley, Hooker, Leuey, Zaka) and a few very good kids (Daniher, Z Merrett, Parish, McDonald-Tipungwuti, pick 1). If a few things come together for them they could easily finish in the 8. Or if a few things go wrong bottom four wouldn't be out of the question.

Personally I'd prefer them to finish about 10th so that they think they're good and don't get another early pick. But really hard to pick for mine.

One of the interesting things to note is that there are only three Victorian picks between 10 and 23. North, Doggies and Bombers. If someone like Florent wants to stay in Victoria and clubs are worried about go home factor then he might slide to 23.
Outstanding point. Not sure if we've noticed but there is certainly a propensity for interstate clubs to pick local boys. Especially WA/SA clubs and then there's the academy players in QLD/NSW. Issue is the likes of Rotham/ Logue could be gone..

Good point.
Especially if he's TELLING THEM. ;)

That would be nice if there was a shock slider like that, but it might work against the under rating of the WA kids in particular (although from memory there's a fair swathe of Lions and Giants picks). You'd think Florent and Berry are gone.

They have a good team on paper, IMO and I think this year will have done them a lot of good as far as uncovering and giving significant opportunities to the likes of McDonald-Tippa, Parish and Z Merrett goes.

Down back they have the elite KPP stocks in Hurley and Hooker, plus others like Goddard, Kelly and Tippa, in the midfield area they have Heppell, Merrett, Watson, Zaharakis, Parish, Stanton and Colyer and then up forward they have Daniher and Brown, then the likes of Fantasia (who is bloody good already), Laverde and Francis, plus they get either McCLuggage or McGrath with pick 1 of the draft and either one of them will probably be able to come in and do well immediately.

I hate to say it, but when I look at their team on paper I see a team that ought to be up to their eyeballs in the finals race and a better and more balanced team on paper than the likes of Collingwood, Port and Richmond, who are all expecting to play finals this year.

Because they finished bottom this year they've also been gifted a piss-easy draw, which will make it much easier for them to make the 8 than ours will (ours ranked the 3rd hardest by CD). The thing that may make it hard for them though is that it may take their returning 10 or so a while to get used to how much the game has changed in the 18 months since they last played. If it does and they get off to a slow start they may struggle to recover, but if they don't, they could be in for a good season.

The 8 is possible, but Brown as their second best tall forward stinks and Orazio is not bloody good!

True, but lie down with dogs and you get fleas I guess (sorry Darcy!).

Also high to the customary Injectors lurkers and I can only assume I'll be making an appearance in your ironically-named 'Delusional Pearlers' thread. :handwaving:

Brown finished the year really strongly (18 marks in R20 against Geelong, then 11 and 13 in the next two weeks), but he might be better suited down back (where he was obviously playing during those games), which could mean they can play Hooker forward, and a Daniher/Hooker combo could be damn good.

I'll certainly disagree with you on Fantasia. Had 54 shots for goal this year (including 4 goals in one game and 3 four times) at 20yo, in the bottom team (despite playing much further up the ground early in the year) and he'd walk straight into the forward pocket in our team and I imagine plenty of others in the comp. Can play elsewhere to a high level as well though, as evidenced by his consecutive games early in the year of 23, 23, 29 and 25 disposals (and another 27 possie game later in the year).

If he's not bloody good yet, he's on track to be very quickly!

They've really nailed a lot of their draft picks in recent years.
