I know it's a crazy thought but if we picked up Josh Battle in the draft I wouldn't mind it. I know it's not in our list of needs but a full forward line of Membrey-Paddy-Battle (or 2 of if one is injured) would be beastly. It would ensure we had ample forward line stocks for the next decade. Also, his name is Josh Battle.

Yeah, I don't get the lack of love for Battle, he's a good kpf.

He's a lot better performed that Marshall, so at this point in time he probably is. Kerr also in the convo. May be getting some competition from Hayward now, too.

He's 2cm shorter than Jesse Hogan and 1cm shorter than Josh Kennedy from WCE. He looks the package to me, he's meant to be super professional- never had a drink in his life type, he's good at marking, good kick, huge tank etc. I just can't understand why there isn't a bit more hype around him.

I saw him listed as 192. Which is Jack Darling size, and from memory Kennedy is around 196.

I thought his pace, or at least acceleration, was a strength?

He's not quick, but he's certainly not a plodder. His burst from congestion is good, and his repeat sprints result from the Combine was very good, so it hints at improved second efforts and whatnot when his tank grows.

Last year a lot of the early academy bids were paid for with multiple later picks, harder to pull off this year with GWS and GC having so many early picks and the rule change that they can only have as many picks available as open list spots. 23 will drift back but hard to say how far it'll go.

"The AFL will not make a decision on whether to remove draft picks from Greater Western Sydney until there is a finding in the cases involving Giant Lachie Whitfield and two former GWS officials.

The AFL is expected to consider stripping the Giants of draft picks but the delay in the case — in which Whitfield is alleged to have avoided a drug test with the assistance of ex GWS pair Graeme Allan and Craig Lambert — means any potential penalty might be too late for this month’s national draft.

The case remains in the hands of ASADA, which has been in discussions with the AFL about whether there will be anti-doping charges against Whitfield, Allan — now Collingwood’s head of football — and Lambert.

With the draft to be held on November 25, the delay in an outcome means the AFL is running out of time if it wishes to remove draft picks — presumably a first and second round choices — for this year.

GWS, despite a flurry of pick swapping, retained its ‘natural’ first (pick no 15) and second round choices in the upcoming national draft.

But the Giants say they were not directed by the AFL to keep those picks, which will be needed to meet bids for their talented academy players, including the highly rated Will Setterfield.

Based on past penalties for clubs that have lost draft picks, the Giants would likely lose pick no 15 and their second rounder if the club is held liable for the actions of Whitfield, Allan and Lambert.

But the AFL commission, which would have to sanction any penalty, has not formally considered the question of draft penalties for the Giants, who also have pick no 2 — acquired via trades of players over two post- seasons — in the 2016 national draft.

The AFL is unwilling to make a ruling on GWS’s draft picks — and whether the club is liable for what is alleged — until the trio have been found guilty or in the less likely event that they are cleared.

Clearly, the AFL cannot have a situation when the club is punished before there is due process for the individuals.

The AFL commission is meeting on November 15 to consider whether to strip Essendon’s Jobe Watson of his 2012 Brownlow Medal as a result of his doping suspension, with 33 other current and ex-teammates.

It is possible that Whitfield, Allan and Lambert could be charged with doping code beaches which carry heavy penalties but they could also be charged under the less punitive AFL rules

— for misconduct — or for breaching the illicit drug code rules, even though Whitfield would not have been drug tested in the days in question, early in the 2015 season.
Whitfield stayed at Lambert’s home, reportedly at the urging of Allan and Lambert, in what his ex-girlfriend alleged was to avoid a drug test.

The former girlfriend emailed ASADA with allegations after she felt officials had not dealt with

her initial concerns about Whitfield’s behaviour.

Under the doping codes, players and officials can be suspended for up to four years for major offences.

The last club to be stripped of picks was Essendon for its part in the 2012 drugs scandal. The Bombers lost first and second round pick for 2013 and a first round for 2014, although the Dons got an end of first round pick handed back to them in 2013.

Adelaide lost two years of first and second round picks for the Kurt Tippett salary cap scandal."

Post by Jake Nial regarding whether the Giants would get stripped of their draft picks, would make it very interesting as would likely result in their late 2nd and early 3rd picks being used to match the bids on their academy kids, and depending on where kids are bid on may result in them going into debt the next year.
Given they currently have 2, 15, 37, 39, 45, 52, 55, 57, 58, 59, 60.
Lets say they get 15, 37, 39 stripped, then its likely all of 45, 52, 55, 57, 58, 59, 60 will be needed to satisfy bids on the likes of setterfield, mutch and their other academy kids.
Do people think if they get stripped of picks that they will be less likely to match all of their academy kids bids?
Also will likely result in our 3rd pick being more around the 54 mark rather than 61.

And it makes no difference since they are players we won't get anyway.
Make a list of all the non-academy players. Then shorten the list of players to ones that are likely to be there for us.
Insert a million academy players and our short list stays the same. The draft position is just a number.

There is talk that some of them may be let go this year though.
I wouldn't mind us putting a bid on Mutch with our first pick.

Yeah I would imagine he'd be right in the mix, along with Witherden, Rotham, SPP, Clarke, C Cox, Scharenberg and maybe Mutch.

I only see Bowes, Setterfield & Perryman being bid on before our pick 23

Bowes will be bid on very early, so one of the GC's pick 4 or 6 will be used when they match that bid.

Setterfield & Perryman - you'd assume picks 15, 37 & 39 should satisfy bid points for those 2.

If the above happens, our pick 23 should only slide to pick 24

I should also add that our pick 61, will probably slide down to about the pick 50-54 range if you consider the points GWS, Brisbane & GC will have to cough up for their multiple later picks to cover Setterfield, Perryman, Macreadie, Sproule, Mutch (& more for GWS), Bowes, Scheer & Allison

I don't think it's as set as stone as that. GWS won't pick up all their academy eligible guys this time. They'll get the ones we'd want for pick 23 though I dare say so it's probably a moot point.
