Interesting to see Anderson has is taking Tom Williamson with our pick 60. There must be some mail behind this because I just saw a snippet on my local western Victorian news which said something like "Williamson has his eyes set on st.kilda". I'd be happy with that pick as a pacy and classy outside winger

Similar height and ability with the shoe as Whitey...

Battle didn't just test 'poorly' for agility. He was bad in the beep test, but more damning, he finished last for the 2 foot jump, in the bottom 7 % and 11% for the two running one foot jumps. He has the turning circle of the Queen Mary, a low jump and he's only 192 at that.
Paddy Mac would also have tested towards the tail end for all of those tests, but that didn't seem to hurt his draft chance. Paddy is also 193, the same height as N. Riewoldt, Jarryd Roughead and Tex Walker. So I wouldn't write Battle off on the basis that he is 1cm shorter.

Aside from what Crusty Undies has said, there's one key difference between Battle and Goddard and that's that Hugh is genuine key position height, so surely that's less of an issue than if someone is a "tweener".

Given that we'd almost certainly just be getting Battle for depth, or "insurance", I have to say I'd be less than thrilled if we spent our first pick and only pick inside the first 35 on him, when there are others who are going to be available at that pick who would presumably be best 22 going forward if they develop well.

Marshall at 23 if he slides? Sure, because he has a really high ceiling, but Battle? Not so much for me, when we already have Paddy, Bruce and Skunk in particular.
I actually agree that Battle would be surplus to requirements, and would prefer plenty of guys ahead of him. But that's what everyone said when GWS took Cam McCarthy, and then 18 months later, Freo are offering 2 first rounders for him. Goal-kicking key forwards are always in high demand, and you can never have enough of them, even just as insurance- there is no guarantee that Paddy will make it, or that Skunk will have it as easy next year as this. He would be an absolute steal at 36.

To be fair, the Norm Smith medallist this year wasn't exactly peachy clean by foot. Actually see a fair bit of JoJo in SPP.
A fair call, but it's often easier to forgive a guy like that's faults if he is surrounded by good kicks in the team- when the majority of our mids are average kicks at best, we should be aiming to improve the skill level rather than make it worse.

Also I notice he got a perfect score for goal kicking in the combine so he cam obvously jot a target.

Paddy is 195cm now.

Another good thing about potentially getting SPP is that if we had him on board (and also Gresh and Koby), it could really help us out in coming years if we're really keen on any young indigenous talent from WA or NT who are seen as a flight-risk- that we might have otherwise passed on if we didn't have some strong indigenous leaders here already, to help them settle in and adjust to the big-smoke and being away from their community, etc.
I dont think Koby Stevens is indigenous is he?

Edit: upon googling it appears he is. Also lol at phone doing a 2 in 1 post for me. Good job phone :)

That result surprised a few, but don't forget that Josh Bruce is a fairly good kick for goal too... and is also one of the worst field kicks you'll ever see.

194 cm now - elite endurance - if Port pick Marshall @ 17 either Doggies or the Dons will pick him at 18 or 20.

Speaking of turning circles of the Queen Mary - Jack Darling has managed 128 games and Battle is all over him on the endurance stakes.

Don't think he will be on our radar though. If we are looking at a tall forward we will looking for a forward/ruck.

Love this tom williamson, sounds like what wed be into ... athletic, leader and beautiful left kick. Thats stkilda. Drew now rated very highly unfortunetly. After all the thinking about this draft I HAVE NO IDEA.
I trust bains and co.
Just please give us SPP or Cox with first pick. Thats all I know and want.

If Battle is in fact 194cm now that would make me a lot more OK with us using our first on him, but I still wouldn't necessarily be thrilled with the idea of spending our first pick on someone who we'd be hoping we don't have to play for 8 years.

Okay so it's settled. If Florent isn't available we flip a coin out of SPP or Bolton.

Both fill an obvious need. Powerful clearance specialist who can burst away from stoppages vs electrifying half-forward/winger who knows how to find the goals.

Bolton has a lot of McLeod about it , albeit a more forward of centre McLeod who looks to be even quicker and more agile!
