WTF happened here? He wasn't taken in the draft, then the Pies got him as a Rookie??? Did we not want him in the end?
Collingwood's pick was before ours..

Hmm, I thought it was just if he isn't taken in the national draft....what's the point then of broadcasting who we will take as a rookie if anyone else can take him at any time?Collingwood's pick was before ours..
If nobody takes him in any of the 3 draft, he gets to be a Cat B rookie for free.Hmm, I thought it was just if he isn't taken in the national draft....what's the point then of broadcasting who we will take as a rookie if anyone else can take him at any time?

I wish I'd seen this post while I was there.hold up a sign "choomah lives"
That would be me. The system should change to the same setup the northern academies have once the academies are established (hopefully next year), meaning any academy prospect in the national draft can have their bid matched by their zoned club, and if they're overlooked in the ND they can be auto-selected as a rookie. If nobody takes him in any of the 3 draft, he gets to be a Cat B rookie for free.
Someone (think it was a Pies fan looking for a bit of info) suggested that this system was here for this year only; given the club had sweet **** all to do with the players development, and it'll change, at least to getting them automatically as rookies if they don't get a senior list spot.
