We need a genuine midfielder not a small fwd that plays spurts in the mid like gresh, lonie, Sinclair.
McCluggage, Brodie, Scharenberg, Clarke, Florent, Venables, Taranto, McGrath, Petrevksi-Seton...

Howd McGrath go? Sounds like a great athlete, is he a good footballer? Weaknesses?
Hasn't done a heap as the ball was either down the other end or goals were being kicked from long range, but he's got great awareness, agility and good speed. Skilful too.

Only genuine weakness is his size, but he's got a huge leap, which negates that a fair bit. Otherwise I'm wary of whether he can move into the middle full time.

If they're as good as Ainsworth looks to be I wouldn't care, as long as they reckon his tank will be good enough. Looks Robbie Gray like to me. Or a cross between Gray and Collingwood's Elliott.

At this point in time we still just need to keep on adding the best talent we're able to get our hands on, so if we rated Ainsworth as clearly the best option at our pick then I'd want us to take him. Would also let us focus much more on the midfield games of guys like Billings, Gresham and Sincs.

I think we are at the point were we need to Draft for needs (to a point) and a small fwd isn't a need at all, probably our best position covered.

To compete with gws dees dogs ect we are going to need gun mids, aintworthit isn't a gun mid.

He looked pretty bloody good to me when he was playing in the guts today (his handballing for instance was exceptional and he looked very much at home at the bottom of the pack) and he would also most likely be a real upgrade on the likes of Lonie and Sinclair, especially from a goalkicking POV. I see them as the types who might kick 30 or perhaps 40 goals in a season, whereas Ainsworth is more the type who I could see having 50 goal seasons and being much more of a weapon up there. The type you could leave one-out up there, like we did Milne at times with good success and like Adelaide can with Betts.

He could also just be a tank away from being a Robbie Gray type, who we would take in a second.

If getting him meant that it took an extra year to build the midfield we want, but meant we'd be a better team for longer as a result, then I'd rather we did that.

Teams like GWS are just going to be so chock-full of talent on every single line that we won't be able to afford to go for needs over pure talent, otherwise we'll end up with a well balanced team that just isn't good/talented enough, IMO. I'd rather we be more patient and just load our team up with talent, even if it takes that year or two extra to get the balance we want. Then we could be set up for a good, sustained crack at it over several years.
