Can he be turned into a mid? With that size and agility he could be Cripps/ Bont like
He can, it's just a matter of where Vic Country and North Ballarat decide to play him.

Big no to Waterman simply because he is a medium forward who plays like a tall. In general players of this type struggle in the AFL and we already have Acres and Membrey.

Darling goes okay, Stringer looks a gun. It's like the mid sized forwards generally, when they are good they are a nightmare to match up on but very few are excellent. even Gunston despite his height plays that type of lead up not quite a big man role.

In case you were wondering where our boys come from ....

9 Dandenong Stingrays - Curren Lonie Minchington Pierce Rice Roberton Savage White Wright
5 Geelong Falcons - Delaney Goddard McCartin Steven Saunders
4 Northern Knights - Longer Gresham Montagna Newnes
3 Oakleigh Chargers - Billings McKenzie Sinclair
2 Calder Cannons - Carlisle O’Kearney
2 Morningside - Armitage Hickey
2 Gippsland Power - Dempster Membrey
2 Southport - Gilbert Riewoldt

.... and finally we have 2 players from the Sandringham Dragons - Nathan Freeman and Barclay Miller.

And yet MELBOURNE gets the Rays for the multicultural academies...

I don't deny that some make it. Russel Robinson the standout example.
But to me its a high risk drafting sub 190cm lead up forwards.
Lots try , but not so many make it, and lots fail to be a successful midfielder.

I guess the question is why do you need the height.
If its to win a marking contest, then at 189cm its not going to help you much.
( In 2004 Milne took more contested marks than Hamill ). If its about finding space and getting to a good position, you are much better finding a guy who can move fast, play at ground level, and not drop any balls that come his way.

Most goals are kicked from people under 200cm, simply because most people are shorter than 200cm.

In 2005 around 20% of the goals were kicked by players from 186-190cm
In 2010 it was 5%.
In 2104 and 2015 it was 2%. ( Just Crameri really ).

In 2014 6% of goals were kicked by players 190-191 cm tall, only 4% in 2015 ( Jack Darling Injured ).
In 2014 15% of goals were kicked by players 192-193 cm tall, 19% in 2015.

Yes an exceptional talent can beat the stats, but how confident are we of finding that exceptional talent.

First try outs at Fed Square last Saturday night?

2 get arrested, only 2. But arrests won't help its a social thing because they have no jobs according to the do-gooder spokesman.
That makes it ok then?

round 1 of the colts over here in the west and theres some interesting numbers on the stats sheet.

looks like jake waterman will be a bargain for WCE under the father son bidding process. 3 goals 2 behinds, 20 disposal game in a close game for Claremont vs East Perth. whilst petroskis-setton got some decent ball with 20D 3M 4T, but disappointing to see him not have more kicks than handballs and not hit the scoreboard (also missing from the bests). Jeremy Goddard (202cm 95kg) looks to have played mostly ruck, dominating with 38 hit outs (the combined hit outs for the opposition was 25). he also had 14D and 2M and 3T, would have been nice to see him clunk a few more. Powell-Pepper had 21D 12K 9H 6M 2T. interestingly both waterman and powell pepper were reported....

Claremont narrowly beat east perth by a goal. some standouts:
BANFIELD, Bailey (188cm 90kg MID) 32D 18K 14H 4T 2M
GUELFI, Matt (183cm 75kg MID) 36D 21K 15H 4T 11M
NICHOLAS, Lachlan (190cm 87kg FWD) 12D 8K 4H 6M 2T 2G 3B
East Perth BEST: J.Edwards, H.Blanch, M.Young , J.Cahill
Claremont BEST: M.Guelfi, K.Shandley, D.Hardisty, B.Banfield

South Freo dominated West Perth (by ~100 point), some standouts:
DZELEBDZIC, M (196cm 97KG KPF) 15D 9K 6H 8M 2T 4G
BURKE, Daniel (180cm 76kg MID) 29D 21K 8H 5M 1T 1G

South Freo BEST: Z.De san miguel, C.Pearson, C.Datson, D.Brown, T.English
West Perth BEST: L.Baker, S.Nelson, O.Allen

Swan Districts had a convincing win over East Fremantle (~30 points), STRNADICA, Luke was disappointing with only 11D 1G 2B, 0 hit outs.
East Freo BEST: C.Zurhaar, G.Parfitt, A.Montauban, J.Quill, C.Holmes
Swan Districts BEST: B.Fullgrabe, T.Stewart, M.Price, T.Watson

Perth had the bye and Subi vs Peel is currently in progress

As far as the seniors go:
Greg Clarke who was past over in last years draft, played in defence against Freo's AFL listed players and did alright, something for him to build on.

One to look out for though is Kyle Halligan who had 6 goals against an absolutely packed freo defence that had clancee pearce, alex silvagni, alex pearce, darcy tucker, de boer, sam collins. he ended up with:
HALLIGAN, Kyle 21D 18K 3H 7M 3T 7I50 6G 1B

another one to keep an eye on is Declan Jackson (190cm 97kg KPD) who is 22 years of age and more than held his own at FB against much bigger AFL listed opponents

Interestingly Brandon White said he and Rice were close friends at the Stingrays and last year we picked up Sinclair who had played junior sport all the way through his childhood as a close friend of Billings. I wonder if it's a deliberate thing to settle in the kids? He also said he lived 20 minutes away from training which was similar to Lonie. Does get rid of go home factor I guess.

Who are your top 5 mids at this point? Excluding academy & f/s.
Haven't seen enough to make a call. I like Scharenberg junior more than most though.

In other news; gentlemen, I'm in love.

Dandenong has a lad with a November '98 birthdate (so he's a baby for the draft class), Tom Roberts, who already rocks the scales at 202cm 112kg.
