So 9 is worth 1495? GWS wouldn't do that deal in a fit then. We'd have to throw a lot more in, unfortunately.
Probably takes that deal out of the equation then.
Would look at a pick downgrade if we could get two in a even draft.
Think just one star if we could get an Ainsworth or McGrath would be best suited though

Yep, if we got either of those two with our first I'd be thrilled. Maybe we need to trade up, like Melbourne did last year to get Oliver, rather than trade down.

We need to trade in a 2nd round pick for this year somehow.

If we got that 2nd round pick this year, I'd be inclinded to go ahead with a trade like this with GWS:

Saints 2017 1st round pick (say we finish 8th - pick 11 - 1329 points) + 2016 3rd (~pick 45 - 347pts) round pick for Marchbank & 2016 1st round pick (say its pick 16 if they finish 3rd this year - 1067pts)

Positives for us:
- we get 2 1st round picks this year (picks 9 & 16) - 2 of McCluggage/McGrath/Simpkin/Scharenberg/Ainsworth you'd think/hope
- we pick up Marchbank

Negatives:
- we lose 2017 1st round pick
- we lose 2016 3rd pick

To the biased supporter, that probably looks like we're paying overs, but its fairly balanced & if anything, I feel we'd be the ones that probably even need to throw in our 4th rounder to get it over the line, which is why i'd be desperate for a 2nd round pick from somewhere

Funny that because originally I thought they did that with the intentions for Darcy Parish and then overlooked him anyway.
Terry Wallace had them taking Curnow early.
That kind of trade is a risk in an even field

It depends on how you rate the field though. We might for instance think there are 6 who are a cut above the rest and who we are super keen on, but we might have pick 10, so it could be well worth trading up to a pick like 6 to ensure we get one of those we really want and to give us the better chance of adding the higher-end talent that we really need.

Yes that's fair but the time the trade goes through the draft is still a month away

The season and even the combine are over by that time though, so we'd already have a very fair idea of how we rate them and who we think are a cut above the rest and really suit our needs.

Gotta remember that Melbourne traded up last year to get Clayton Oliver, and in doing so don't have a 1st round pick this year because it was part of the deal to get that pick 3 off the Suns.

Suns received: picks 6 & 29 + Melbourne's 2016 1st rounder

Demons received: pick 3, 10 & 43 >>>> then on traded picks 10,43 & 64 to GWS for Bugg & 7

If we could work something like that, I'd be pretty happy. I'd be looking at trying to get Gold Coast's 1st pick or the GWS Pies pick as the upgrade

What about something like 8ish, 2017 1st and 2016 3rd (40ish) to GWS for one of Marchbank/Steele/Ahern pick acquired off Collingwood (5) and 2016 1st (16)

Essentially:
Saints get 5,16, Player
GWS get 2 x top 10 picks potentially, 40ish

Would allow us to grab McLuggage and another gun mid -Ainsworth/Scharenberg/Simpkin/Graham/Venables etc

Why would gws do that?

Your Marchbank obsession is approaching McKenzie/Sully levels... ;)

Out of the uncontracteds at GWS, he's the only one i really want... At 193cm, I suppose he's just not quite tall enough for you though ;)

2cm and 5kg too little...

This is the time of year when all the supporters at teams like Collingwood are going ...oooooh why haven't we got an early pick this year?
I guess it eliminates tanking for SOME of the teams.
Its amazing just how stupid some supporters are. I have a mate who's a Pies supporter & he was blabbing on about how they are deliberately picking a side that cant win (playing 3 ruckmen a few weeks back) to finish as low as possible, because they know they wont do any good this year with all their injuries, to get top 5 draft pick.....

He was one confused mo-fo when I told him that Treloar has already cost them their 1st round pick this year & currently their 1st pick will be around pick 25....

:D:p

My opinion of you just dropped a huge amount.

.... For SA I was impressed with their CHB Brennan Cox 194cms & 90 kgs. Solid mark and kick with reasonable speed and looks composed. Two other light mids with speed and run and carry that caught my eye were Connor Noonan 180 & 72 and Alex Villis 182 & 70. Both played at speed, had run and kicked the ball well - potential wingmen, would be worthy recruits.

This year is meant to be a very even draft so even if we do trade out our 1st there will be decent players to be plucked further down the order. MIght mean that we have to trade back into the 2nd round at least though?
If Brett Anderson is a good judge of talent, then Alex Villis (182cm midfielder from Norwood and SA) has "elite decision-making and foot skills".
May well go around our third round pick.

Barrels or anyone else who knows about him.

but hoes dyl clarkes stock going, saw foxfooty speak about him just then.

is he a player at our first we could go?

Apparently similar to his brother Ryan at North.

From AFL Draft Central: At 187cm, the inside midfielder has dominated at TAC Cup level this season, averaging 28 disposals and eight tackles in his four games. Clarke is a strong player in the midfield where he tackles hard to win the ball and propels it forward on his left foot. Although his left foot isn’t elite, it is above average and he uses it well when looking for a target coming out of a stoppage. Clarke also can go forward and hit the scoreboard whilst has a superb tank giving him the ability to play on a wing.

Got plenty of attributes we're after. Kicking could be better. Been solid in the Championships too. May be better available at our first pick but surely he'd be in the mix.
