Which they will based on the fact that he's a good player and they get the discount, they aim to take all their first round kids.
They even took himmelberg at 15? Last year it would have to be top5 to stop them matching Setterfield

GWS say they want a small forward. Surely if he's available, and that they haven't needed to use the Pies pick as no one has made any bids in their academy boys, they take Ainsworth.

The only other one they'd take I believe would be Todd Marshall who they were not allowed to claim as an academy boy

Why would they go after another key forward, they could have had Wright the other year with 3 different picks before he went.
Could see them picking Simpkin though

Possibly they don't rate him at the pick he is bid on? Possibly they have other priorities (as Rors mentioned)? Possibly they realise he is not committed to living in Sydney longterm?

He's from Albury, which is a 3 hour drive to Melbourne and 5 hour drive to Sydney. He's been boarding in Melbourne for 2 years....plays footy for Sandingram.

Marshall is completely different to McCarthy. More of a Patton type.
They do need some backups but would be surprised if they go him

I reckon Marshell will be a lock for their first or second pick (they'll likely have 4-5 picks in the first 18 after trades are done).

No Marshall in that 'depth' that's for sure. We need someone for post-Roo. Not saying it should be our top priority for next year, but after next year it will be rising up the ranks of our needs.

Well when do you take top10(5)picks for depth ?

We don't pick for depth but neither do they. If they pick him it's because they think overall they get the best players available in the draft by doing so not for depth.

I think we have more kpf depth issues than they do though, but they'll win a depth battle in just about all positions with most teams.

If they're concerned they'll lose Lobb (this year or next) on top of McCarthy, Stewart, and Tomlinson it wouldn't surprise me if GWS took Marshall.

Who are we likely to be looking at ? Obviously a midfielder, heard big things about Venables however, he only gets 10 disposals a game, Galluci is another I've heard a bit about.
Does anyone know of anyone else we'd be looking at closely

Tim Taranto and Jack Scrimshaw seem to have gone past Venables.
Taranto just could be Bartel.

Neat as in disposal? His kicking is meant to be inconsistent, which, along with his less than ideal height seems to be the main knock on him. If not for those things he'd probably go pick 1 or near enough.
