List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

I see Taranto has moved up to 10 in Twomey's phantom draft. I think for us to get him we may need GWS to have to use their first pick on an academy pick which is looking unlikely now.

I'd be very disappointed if we kept our first pick and then missed out on him, no one after him really excites me :(

I'm not overly excited about this years draft. I like luggage, SPS & Ainsworth. Outside of those guys it's all a but meh. Even Brodie looks a bit vanilla for my liking. The Tarantua intrigues me a little but I'd prefer to trade pick 10 to get blokes like Steele, Laverde, Marchbank, Weller, etc.

Agree with you.
I do think Todd Marshall will go top10 but other than that probably similar to the phantom guide.
We will have to trade up if we want Taranto, would be very keen on Scrimshaw too

Really? If Taranto isn't there, I'd be more than stoked with Scrimshaw & vice versa. I'd be only be disappointed if we miss out on both.

Scrimshaw has a lot of upside. He either makes the transition to midfield & becomes a Bont/Cripps type, or if he can't, he stays in defence as a 3rd tall in an intercept mark/attacking Birchall type role

Callum Twomey's most recent phantom is: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-09-08/callum-twomeys-phantom-form-guide-september-edition

Being really conservative looks like we would definitely miss out on the first 7 taken, and the 3 academy types that look to be taken in that range. That's:

McCluggage, Brodie, Ainsworth, McGrath, Petrevski-Seton, English, Taranto
Bowes, Setterfield, Perryman

So around our pick would be:

11: Jack Scrimshaw - Sandringham - 194/80 - back/mid
12: Todd Marshall - Murray - 198/87 - tall forward
13: Daniel Venables - Western - 186/81 - mid/half-forward
14: Jarrod Berry - North Ballarat - 191/80 - mid/half-back
15: Jy Simpkin - Murray - 181/71 - half-forward/mid
16: Alex Witherden - Geelong - 189/78 - half-back
17: Griffin Logue - Swan Districts - 194/92 - tall back
18: Oliver Florent - Sandringham - 183/74 - mid/half-forward
19: Shai Bolton - South Fremantle - 178/68 - half-forward
20: Jordan Gallucci - Eastern - 183/75 - mid

Any thoughts on any of those? The only one that stands out to me is Marshall - hope he's not the best available player at 10 because we don't really need another tall forward.

Don't think Marshall would be available nor would we pick him.

Our ideal picks would be Taranto or Scrimshaw but I think we will be in for Berry, Simpkin or maybe Florent with Venables a far bit behind.

I rate Jarrod berry? Think hes a gun. Watched him the whole of last year when he had a good run at it and looked a class above. Made the AA team as a bottom ager. He has seriously gone under the radar this year purely to his injury problems that are very minor and his reports. Look at his last month of footy injury free and you will see. Think he could become one of the best out of his draft class and think he's the forgotten man. Would be a very good get for St kilda. Quick, tough, leader, good over head, and can play just about anywhere. That's just me tho. Was predicted to be one of the top 5 talents by twomey in January this year and still think he is. Just needed a good run at it.

A real chance for our pick.
He's captained every team he's played in. Could be really solid at half back for a year or two and then into the midfield

He's also proven he can play forward, kicked 3 in there then the next game played midfield and kicked 3 again. Can seriously play contested numbers were good too, at 190 cm he's a very tasty prospect. If you blokes watch vision from last year you will be very interested

Word up here is that GWS were extremely pissed off when they found out Marshall wasn't academy eligible for them. I have no doubts that they take him if it rolls around to them having to use a real pick & not just match bids.

Could see them using pick 7 on him if no one has bid on Setterfield or Perryman by that stage

Our pick 10 could definitely help them out with that.

I haven't seen a phantom draft or power rankings yet that gets him to our pick. Any particular reason you think he might slide?
I reckon GWS take Marshall if they have to take a player with a 'live' pick. Gold Coast will have to use some picks for points when Brisbane bid on Jack Bowes with pick 2 which will knock their later picks down the order, hopefully past ours. Same thing with GWS if they get pick 5 off Carlton if they get Marchbank, we need early bids on Setters & Perryman to knock their picks 5 & 7 down the order too

I really hope we use pick 10 on this kid. He is exactly what we need and he is another left footer and another Jack we can add to our collection........

POS:
Defender/midfielder, Ht 194cm, Wt 80kg, DOB 4/9/98
From Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro

The most appealing thing about Scrimshaw will be his ability to move into a number of different spots. He can be trusted off half-back to set up the play with his left-foot kicking, but he has also got the sidestep and awareness to shift into the midfield. He's still wiry but if he can add some muscle to his frame then he will be a difficult match-up around the stoppages. He shifted forward against the Eastern Ranges in the elimination final last weekend and was very good with 25 disposals and a goal. Scrimshaw is another player who has had his injury problems, but he generally looks a class above when he has the ball in hand.

Had a crack at a phantom draft.

#1 Hugh McCluggage Essendon
#2 Jack Bowes BID GC Match
#3 Will Brodie Brisbane
#4 Ben Ainsworth Fremantle
#5 Andrew McGrath Gold Coast
#6 Sam Petrevski-Seton Carlton
#7 Tim English GCSuns (Prestia trade)
#8 Jack Scrimshaw GWS
#9 Tim Taranto Gold Coast
#10 Todd Marshall Port Adelaide
#11 Will Setterfield BID GWSMatch
#12 Jarrod Berry StKilda

Pick #2 = 2517- 20% = 2014
(24,27,40,170=2082 points)

Hopefully GC/GWS pick for position and get luxury players instead of getting best available (Taranto/Scrimshaw) but don't think they'll be dumb enough too.
Port have delisted Butcher/Schulz reckon they'll get Marshall if they can.
SPS supposedly is happy to move.

GWS will take Marshall if they can just to stick it up the AFL for not allowing him to be part of the academy

What do you think his best position would be?
