List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

The forgotten man. Jy Simpkin. Prior to his injury he was considered a top 3 pick. Much like Jake Lever going at 14, Simpkin could be the bargain of the draft at pick 10.
Simpkin a top 3 pick? Never heard that before, where did you hear that? I heard that plenty about Lever in his underage year, but that's the first I've heard of it re Jy. Given how small, and in particular slight and outside he is, I find it really hard to believe. Always looked and sounded like someone who was more likely to go around 10-12 to me and may now slide to late teens-20.

Tucker and Mathieson were touted top 5 at the start of last year.
It all changes quickly

H Goddard was a potential 1 a year before aswell lol

I'd heard all those things plenty as well, but again, this is the first I've heard of anything of the sort re Simpkin, so I'm wondering where that's come from.

Perhaps my memory isn't so good however I recall seeing him a bit in the national champs & being talked up as one of the better kids from this draft. That was prior to his injury.

Yeah he's very talented and performed well last year, but I would have thought he was projecting more around 10 than top 5, prior to his injury.

Not sure he's what we need as someone who was so skinny and looked really outside, as talented and flashy as he is. Not sure that wins you heavily contested GF's.

He was one of the few underages in the champs last year so he immediately is rated highly in the next draft because others aren't even in the mix ie mccluggage

I get that, but it doesn't mean they're all rated as likely top 3 picks. If he wasn't so small and in particular skinny he might have been, but his types don't generally go top 3 in a draft unless they're ridiculously crazy good, I wouldn't have thought.

Last year I saw SPS, Berry, Brodie, Ainsworth, SPP, Strnadica, Goddard and Simpkin playing as "underagers" and the only ones of that group of 8 (may have been more, they're the ones I remember without having to look at any lists or anything) talked up as potential top 3 or so picks would have been SPS and Ainsworth.

Jy a legit top 15 or so pick though I would have thought.

What's Simpkin like? Can only find a goal highlight, and don't really trust knightmare's system (still a great resource for us BigFooty plebs, so no disrespect intended).

I'd love a nippy player, more athletic in the air version of Z.Merrett, just covering a shit load of ground with balance and neat progressive enough kicking, so Gresh can just stick to inside the guts mostly once the tank is there.

Steven a bit too erratic with disposal, Seb a J.Lewis general, Gresh always in the driver's seat like Lachie Neale, Acres keys to the city no questions asked. Steele and a Merrett type.

Oliver Florent is the answer.

Just can't see us drafting him.
We have to move on

I'm thinking of going to the draft combine this sat morning, but not sure it's worth it re our drafting/trading position.. it'd be good to know if we we're trading pick 10..

Would be a suprise if we were to trade it from here.
Look 95% to keep 10 and take a nice mid to help our depth

Wouldn't mind getting Patrick Lipinski with a later pick, been a bit of a late developer and has a lot of improvement in him, can see him playing as a pure mid.
Pick 46 is our second and last pick it's looks at this stage so that's were he would have to be selected.
We may look at a key back at 46 but I would think another mid would be favourite

Would it be unreasonable to take florent at 10?
Depending on whos gone earlier obviously.
But isnt it possible he is the best mid left at 10?
I dunno about this scrimshaw i reckon we have enough back flankers.
Would it be ridiculous to take florent over him?

Serious questions, i dont know a lot about the subject.

Not unreasonable at all.
Looking the best mid available at 10 but knowing how much drafts can change we will likely get someone currently ranked inside 10
I reckon it's Florent vs Berry if we can't get someone ranked inside the 10
