Is Zac Fisher a chance at sliding to pick 36? I like the look of him despite the 175cm frame. Very quick on the outside and looks to have decent skills by hand and foot.
I really like the look of Fisher, but looks unlikely that he'll be there at 36. Here's hoping though!

I think Spp plays quicker then galluci if that makes sense, spp busts through packs at full tilt, Brett Anderson said that galluci could be at saints pick at 23 and would be 'good rebound defender ala Jason johannison' I think spp has a higher ceiling then galluci,
I actually see it the other way. To me, SPP has done well at under 18 level because he is a big body and so is stronger than most kids. But at AFL level that advantage won't be so pronounced. Whereas I think Gallucci has enormous upside, especially if he continues to improve his kicking (an area that is a distinct problem for SPP). But each to their own! :)

Don't forget we will be taking Mitchell McCarthy as a CatB rookie if he isn't picked up in the draft. Anyone know anything about him?

St Kilda Saints Regions
Melbourne City; Glen Eira; Stonington; Port Phillip; Dandenong; Bayside; Kingston; Frankston (VIC)

Sounds promising does he have to get to get passed over in the rookie draft aswell or just the main draft?

Perhaps he is our smokie?

You'd pass on Florent, eh...

Not withstanding the comments ADS734 made. ( ie : he's convinced me to up him in the pecking order ).
But I'd still prefer Gallucci. However I think Gallucci will be picked teasingly close before our pick.

I'd be terrified that SPP would turn into the next Brett Peake.

How does all this bidding bullshit work.
Someone will bid on Bowes, but GC will need to use one of their 4 before ours to get it, so no change for us? ( am i right).
GWS MAY need to use their two on acadamy picks, but they will probably get one live pick ( though Dodo is the man to bid on McGrath just to annoy them).
So they will inject 2 picks before ours ( making our first pick 25 )

There has been some suggestion that GWS may pass on Mutch.

All based on second hand information, so I'm happy to discuss any of these guys.

Gallucci probably a good choice if he's still available. Both him and Bolton are a strong possibility to be available.

I'm not sold on Bolton. Question marks against his defensive play and ability to win the ball. ( compared to Gallucci for example ).

Villis : Unclear he could go as early as 15 or go nearly to our second pick. He's been described as "Very" Outside. Will his 15 disposal average in the championships translate to "enough" of the ball at AFL level?

C.Cox: Probably will be available at our pick. He's mainly played back flank and is a low possession high impact player. Risky in my eyes. I'd grab him if he went to our second pick though.

Florent : I've heard things about his consistency that don't make me confident. Going missing in games , iffy kicking. I am probably wrong.

FWIW my draft preference if they happened to slide is: Simpkin, Berry, Rotham, Gallucci, Bolton. I'd pass on Venables and Florent

My thoughts are players who are a chance to slide out to our second pick ( but probably won't) could include:
Drew, Powell-Pepper, Bolton, Clarke, Fisher, Ryan, Graham, C Cox.
Passing on Florent is an interesting one. I have no doubt he'll go before our pick, but IMO we'd be mad to let him past our first. I'd be doing cartwheels if we landed him.

Simpkin is probably the only one in that list I'd take ahead of him

Last years draft brought a lot of surprises. Tucker, Balic, Mathieson & Bonner potential top 10-20 picks went 25-40 ish. No doubt similar will happen this year with clubs rating draftees differently.

I can just see a Simpkin, Berry, Venables, ect type being avail at 23 & possibly one of them or similar talent being avail at 36.

I'm actually really looking forward to the draft to see who slides.

If Berry is available at our first pick - it's a no brainer - we have to take him and celebrate into the night

Plus, also, why would we being the dogs a freebie? Out of the kindness of our hearts? Nah
They've already got 18, 26 and 50, they probably wouldn't have used it as an active pick either

LOL at the enthusiasm.

Pick 23 St Kilda- Zac Fisher- Oh my god you don't realise how long I have been waiting to write about this kid and finally the time has come....Yes! Wow wow wow I dont even know what to say about this kid like did I even say WOW? Zac is such an all rounder player and has THE x factor written all over him. He is just possibly the best person for me to watch and I get more in love with him every time I replay different videos of him. If you blink you will miss what he does with the ball in a pack, you will be thinking what the heck did he even touch the ball. His so gifted with his speed on the field and with the ball, aswell as using it very clean and to perfection. He loves to burst through and from stoppages to and with the ball and making great decisions to help his team further through the game. He can definitely find and get the ball thats no issue whatsoever. His clearance work is really great as he can bring it up forward with no hesitation and problems aswell as doing it so fast while being calm and composed. He looks so goddamn energetic that he literally reminds me of Ben cousins, like seriously though he actually reminds me alot of how ben cousins plays. His height at 175cm is definitely not an issue nor his weight at that level however once in the AFL he will struggle against the bigger bodies. When time comes for developement he should get his frame up and coming and than he will be such an important player in the AFL thats for sure. He would suit st kilda and Im locking this is. For all you saint fans if he does come please welcome him with open arms and treat him like a king because Im not taking this back but I feel like the king is coming

There will be some good talents available. Rhys Mathieson, Ryan Clarke, Darcy Tucker, Harley Balic, Luke Partington and Kieren Collins were all classified as top 15 talents at some point and all ended up sliding past 23, some even went past 36.

I'd love if someone like Scrimshaw slid to us but he has too much potential to not get through to 23.

Wow ;) If this is his write up on the #23 pick what were the write-ups on the first 22 picks like?

TAC Cup
Draft Watch: Dandenong’s Mitch McCarthy

After spending his top-age year in the United States playing basketball, Mitch McCarthy returned to the Dandenong Stingrays in 2016 as an exciting but raw draft prospect.

Having first spent time at the club in 2014, the 196cm Mt Eliza product had his over-age TAC Cup season interrupted by injury but showed enough of his athleticism to earn an invite to the recent NAB AFL Draft Combine.

McCarthy averaged eight disposals, three marks and 19 hitouts per game in six TAC Cup matches this year playing mostly as a key forward and ruckman, and also represented Vic Country in two games at the NAB AFL U18 Championships.

taccup.com.au talked to McCarthy at the Draft Combine, where he was unable to participate in physical testing as he completes his recovery from a navicular stress fracture in his foot.

How have you been selling yourself as a footballer to AFL clubs in interviews at the Combine?

“I usually talk about my athleticism – because I’m from a basketball background which helps a lot – and probably my skills for my size.”

What is the strangest question you’ve been asked by an AFL club?

“I was asked to count backwards from 773 in sevens. I struggled a bit with that. I think I was in pain for about a whole minute, but they pushed me through it and I was waiting for them to say: ‘Alright, you’re good’, but it just didn’t come!”

Which AFL players do you particularly like to watch and model your game on?

“I love watching Grant Birchall for Hawthorn. He’s a great kick and he’s mobile. (Port Adelaide’s) Paddy Ryder – I love watching him, a high-flyer. (West Coast’s) Nic Naitanui because of his jumping, and Jared Brennan who used to play for Brisbane and Gold Coast – he was fun to watch.”

How did you come to the decision to choose playing footy over basketball?

“It was probably around draft time last year. A few of my Stingrays teammates from when I was playing U17s were getting drafted and by then I actually had to decide whether I wanted to sign to go to a US university on a scholarship or go back to footy. I picked footy and I’m 100 per cent confident that was the right decision. I was over there for six months and my whole heart was dedicated to that (basketball), but I was starved of footy. It was a hard decision that took a lot of family meetings over the phone.”

How do you think your year turned out relative to your pre-season expectations?

“I’m not going to lie – it was tough to get back into the footy rhythm, trying to understand the game. The game’s changed since 2014, with the structures involved. It’s pretty tricky sometimes but the Stingrays have been awesome helping me through it. (Talent Manager) Mark Wheeler, who I work with as a trainee at the moment – I really need to say thank you to him the most. He’s probably accelerated my learning of footy through watching vision of games and talking through different players and structures.”

What type of player do you think you’ll end up being?

“I’d probably say I’ll start off in the back line, get to know the game a bit more and see it from that perspective, and then move up into the forward line and pinch-hit in the ruck.”

Talk about why you think your teammates at the Combine are so highly rated.

- Josh Battle: “He’s an elite kick – I think he’s the best kick in the draft.”
- Bailey Morrish: “He’s very exciting. I love watching him run out of the back line. He’s athletic and he’s got all the traits to be an AFL footballer.”
- Myles Poholke: “He’s a very good grab. I think with his marking ability, he helped us get up in some games this year.”

If you weren’t possibly going to become a full-time footballer, what would you be doing in life in the next few years?

“At the moment I’m doing a Certificate IV in Sports Development at the Stingrays as a traineeship, so maybe I’ll work through to become a PE teacher and I then want to work my way up the ranks as a coach.”
......
If any player goes into the draft without having memorised counting backwards in 7s from a high number, then they just don't want it enough! Numerous draftees have mentioned this task so it seems a staple, although I imagine each player has to start from a different number. I suppose you just have to go slow and not freak out. Its probably about the process rather than the results in this case.

I'm hoping Berry/Simpkin slides
Berry sounds to me like a great player when he has the ball, but it's just not a frequent occurrence that he gets it. neither sound like real top talents though who slide.

How many of them look like top 15 talents now though?

Someone will bid on Bowes, but GC will need to use one of their 4 before ours to get it, so no change for us? ( am i right).

If Essendon bid on him at pick 1 that's 3000 points, then Brissie get the 25% discount which makes it 2250 points. Pick 3 is 2234 so they have to steal 16 points from their next pick, which is 16 - but the gap between 16 (1067 points) and 17 (1025 points) is more than 16 points so 16 doesn't move.

So in that case it's no change.

On the other hand, if Gold Coast were to bid on him at pick 4, that's 2034 points, which is 1525 after the discount. That's more than the value of pick 16 (1067 points) so they'd have to take 458 points from their next pick, 21 (878 points). So that bumps it back into the early 3rd round.

In that case we improve our position one, because 16 moves up to 4 and 21 back to 41. Our pick 23 becomes 22, and 36 becomes 35.

That's the most likely scenario for Bowes, a bid inside 10 which means our 23 improves, and if it's high enough then our 36 improves as well.

Seems like GWS will probably use 15 on one of their players, then their collection of later picks on the rest, which turn into an earlier pick. So that probably pushes our 22 back to 23, but our 61 comes in a long way, probably mid-50s.

I haven't done all the numbers but I'd say most likely scenario is we have 23, 37, 54; something like that.

I like the sound of both Berry and Rotham.

Sounds like Rotham can be that athletic quick 3rd tall but needs to put a bit of bulk on.

StCicatriz does he play a bit like Kolo at GC?

Barrels how would you describe Berry? Is he a third tall defender or midfield?
