List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

I've heard this years. Pick 15 and their second which is near ours isn't it?

15 and 37, which would make very little difference for our picks. The positive is that it doesn't look like they'd have enough points to grab all their academy players, even including next year. So if the available pool is bigger then it's more likely we'll get a slider.

Callum twomey saying our dream result at the draft would be josh battle. We do need some key forward depth so I don't mind this option. Does anyone know his height? From memory he's not quiet a key forward but more of a 3rd marking tall?

192cm 90kg

I'd be more keen on a first team player than backup. Quick or tall midfielder.

Don't think Battle could play mid apparently has the agility of a penguin

This proves just how little Cal Twomey knows about our list. Is he not aware that Tim Membrey exists?

We might build some KPP depth, but we won't take it at 23 unless there is a massive slider we rate.

Sam Fisher forward who goes back? He's a gun Battle and reads the ball really well in the air. I like him.

He looks like a gun though and I can't understand why he's not higher rated. He has elite speed, huge tank and won't touch alcohol so he can play AFL. He's like a mentally stable Fev. He will be a star in a few years. I would snap him up in a second, his speed could see him play mid but he's a waste away from goal.

Not when next years draft is full of ruck sized forwards.

I'm not sold on the huge guys, who are the elite KPF 198 and over? Daniher, Tippet, Peter Wright, Darcy Moore, Jenkins etc. None are the killer 100 goal a season types. If they can ruck and drift forward that's a different type to me. The best KPFs always seem to be around 195cm give or tale a couple.

I noticed someone in one of the threads on the phantom drafts board implying that they had some inside info on Battle and they said that he's now 194cm and that he will be going anywhere from about 8 to about 16 in the draft. Apparently DonPatchSword (who has a good phantom and is the one on the Essendon board who's very knowledgeable looking posts I referred recently) overhead Dodoro during one of the TAC Cup finals saying that he thought Battle would be gone by their pick 20 and I dare say, given their needs, that if he was available they would snap him up.

Apparently Port are very keen (makes sense, given their needs and the recent loss of Schultz) and they have picks 14 and 17, so if he really is 194cm now in particular it's hard to see him getting past both those picks. In the unlikely event that he does, WB might snap him up at 18, or Sydney at 19.

I think outside mid or 3rd tall is more important this year with a new key developing fwd a need the year after, especially if Roo has retired or in his last year in 2018.

But it depends on who is available at pick 23 (or 22 if GWS lose their pick) - we take best available....there will be a slider it is just a question of whom that might be.

Less than 2 weeks to go and I can't wait to see who we get - 3 players. Do we take a kid at 61, (will be in the 50's with academy slections) or do we go for a more mature VFL player or even a delisted AFL player?

What is great is that kids who are drafted now have time to develop at Sandy rather than having to be rushed into the seniors....

As far as key forward depth goes, I think we're in a good position in that Carlisle and Goddard both have forward playing capabilities, so it means that we can go out and look for just general KPP depth, rather than having to have a focus on either key forward or key defence.

In other words, if at one of our picks there's a "KPF" who we rate much higher than everyone else, we can go and grab them, to give us that forward depth, but conversely, if there's a "KPD" who we rate much higher than everyone else, we can go and grab them, knowing that if we need to replace a McCartin/Bruce/Membrey, we have other alternatives like Carlisle, Goddard and Acres and as such, we don't necessarily need to have a "pure KPF" developing in the VFL.

Actually, with that being the case, I think KPD depth is a much more urgent need than KPF depth at this stage.

All of the following can play forward if need be: Paddy, Bruce, Membrey, Riewoldt (for the next year or two at least), Carlisle, Goddard, Acres and even a Hickey/Pierce, giving us 8 or 9 legit options for that area, whereas down back we pretty much have just Carlisle, Brown, Goddard, Dempster and Coughlan (and at a stretch, Bruce) and I really think that Dempster is in his last year and that if Brown is in our team for more than 12 months it's far from ideal, possibly leaving us with only two strong options in Carlisle and Goddard from 2018 onwards.

i like GWS and i think its crucial that they are successful but at the same time, the academy and concessions are beyond a joke. there needs to be a bit of of the pendulum swinging back the other way to even it up

having said that my worry isnt GWS its clubs like WCE and Freo who's academies will really start to fire in 5-10 years time

best write up i've seen on him!!! really good and fair

There is a bit of the Dusty about him too, it's not a bad comparison. He's got man child type elements but a bit of mongrel as well.

Speculation is SPS wont go past pick 5 to carlton. That would explain the SOS trips to perth that people mistook for fyfe.

Also carlton and sos have a very good relationship with his management team. Hes also the type of player sos loves
Can confirm Silvagni and Judd made a two hour presentation to Fyfe.
