Another good thing about potentially getting SPP is that if we had him on board (and also Gresh and Koby), it could really help us out in coming years if we're really keen on any young indigenous talent from WA or NT who are seen as a flight-risk- that we might have otherwise passed on if we didn't have some strong indigenous leaders here already, to help them settle in and adjust to the big-smoke and being away from their community, etc.

If Himmelberg is anything like his older brother, that is ******* awesome news

Hopefully available at 36.

A mad StKilda supporting family & his brother set to have his development stifled by the GWS embarrassment of riches.

**** yes!

Did anyone in the media have us getting Gresh last year, or Dunstan and Acres, or D-Mac? I remember they all had us linked to Mason Wood in 2012 as well, only for us to pass on him 3 times!

last year it was keiran collins

year before it was tracca until 2 days out and the new broke. no one had us linked to goddard until the day of (emma quayle)

year before they didnt link us to anyone at our first pick really, just said it was down to billings vs scharenberg vs aish

SPP played champs last year too. I'm guessing that where the highlights of his bad kicking come from. Anyways, saw this pic from last year & wished SPP was burying the Ranga in a tackle.... :D
Yeah the televised champs games last year were where I first saw him. He was one I definitely remembered from that game, as one or two of his blistering runs down the ground left a lasting impression. It was like "whoa, we could do with some of that!". Not just quick, but powerfully quick- presumably due to him having the extra endurance that allows him to sustain it for a longer stretch than most others who are really quick do.

I was watching some of the WA v Allies game this year & SPP & Bolton were the ones that I was going 'oh ****, these guys can really play'. Looked like SPS was being tagged, but you could tell he was all class when he did get the ball

1. Florent
2. Gallucci
3. Bolton
4. Powel-Pepper
5. Witherden.

That'd be my preference, don't see Florent or Gallucci slipping to us so Bolton would be ideal for me. Thoughts?

"Elliot is a bit taller than his brother Harry, who was drafted by GWS last year. He reminds me of Harris Andrews at the Lions. They're not quick but they're light on their feet and they go all day because they have great engines. Elliot is very good overhead, has great agility, keeps his feet and can play at both ends of the ground. He hasn't lived in Queensland long enough to be a member of any Northern academy."

Calling it early if we do indeed take SPP:

This time next year, people will be bemoaning the fact that we added ANOTHER poorly-skilled player to the list after watching more inside 50 passes sail over Riewoldt et al.'s heads. It may have improved this year, but you only needed to watch the All Stars game at the end of the year to see that his kicking is still a liability- he either bangs it long aimlessly or misses the short option (or in the case of the All Stars game, has a fresh airy off the ground from 5m out).

Also, people need to get past the whole 'Battle tested poorly for agility'. Hugh Goddard has always had clear limitations in his agility- as pointed out by our recruiting team in Emma Quayle's book- but that didn't stop us taking him, and apparently we have been keen on Battle for a while now.

Highlights look good.
Agile, marks well, quick thinker.
Good coordination for a skinny tall.
Are you talking @36 Barrels?

Battle didn't just test 'poorly' for agility. He was bad in the beep test, but more damning, he finished last for the 2 foot jump, in the bottom 7 % and 11% for the two running one foot jumps. He has the turning circle of the Queen Mary, a low jump and he's only 192 at that.

I'm not, but it seems the club is...

Yeah.

36 for me - if available

Ah.
I'm all for outside speed but he does look pretty good especially for a later pick.
If we are thinking of banking a tall I'd rather Hindenburg than Battle simply on his agility going by the highlights package.
Looks like he could play both ends Carlisle style with another 10 kegs on him.

Aside from what Crusty Undies has said, there's one key difference between Battle and Goddard and that's that Hugh is genuine key position height, so surely that's less of an issue than if someone is a "tweener".

Given that we'd almost certainly just be getting Battle for depth, or "insurance", I have to say I'd be less than thrilled if we spent our first pick and only pick inside the first 35 on him, when there are others who are going to be available at that pick who would presumably be best 22 going forward if they develop well.

Marshall at 23 if he slides? Sure, because he has a really high ceiling, but Battle? Not so much for me, when we already have Paddy, Bruce and Skunk in particular.

To be fair, the Norm Smith medallist this year wasn't exactly peachy clean by foot. Actually see a fair bit of JoJo in SPP.

essendons pick 1 down to two apparently, the dodo is tossing up whether to pick tim english or drew petrie with the number 1 pick interesting times ahead fellas
Awesome news for bummer fans

Hearing Mckernan to be re-drafted with pick 20

Cement-head Petrie every time. :D

Interesting to see Anderson has is taking Tom Williamson with our pick 60. There must be some mail behind this because I just saw a snippet on my local western Victorian news which said something like "Williamson has his eyes set on st.kilda". I'd be happy with that pick as a pacy and classy outside winger
