I love SPP's energy and attack on the ball but his disposal skills are atrocious - I hope we choose someone else
I think "atrocious" is taking things a bit far, especially since those who have seen a lot of him this year reckon they're greatly improved.

I'm not sure Berry's kicking is any better (it has likewise improved this year) and yet you said this about him not too long ago:

If Berry is available at our first pick - it's a no brainer - we have to take him and celebrate into the night

Berry has so much intent in his play - to me it is sign of the player he will become - his disposal by hand is excellent and by foot, more average.
SPP hits packs hard gathers possession and is often in the thick of things and under enormous pressure when disposing. Can tackle well and uses a fend to good effect in the restricted age matches but his disposal often looks like a "that'll do" effort. He delivers the ball in the general direction of his team mate (by hand and by foot) but not to him - there is an order of magnitude difference in disposal quality between him and Berry.

I doubt his kicking is any worse than Acres' and apart from Brian, I'm not sure any of us regret the club drafting him.

Whoever we get is going to have faults or weaknesses of some kind. Either their kicking isn't great, they're undersized, they're slow, don't get enough of the ball, or whatever, so we need to come to terms with that.
I understand that and am quite happy to rely on the expertise of our recruiters, but I had SPP's disposal as a deal breaker (my opinion)

If we call out SALT-Pepper or Bolton tomorrow I'll be bery happy and no disappointment at all.

How about both?

I mean no one thought Balic, Mathieson would go so late did they :p
Eagles could go for SPP , which would suck , given he is from their alignment club. My gut tells me SPP could be amongst the best of this draft.

Emma's predictions (like everyone else's) has got so many variables and complications that there will be lots of dead air at the draft as recruiters spend half the night staring at at sheets as other clubs pull unexpected picks, match bids and generally throw up options the recruiters had probably never considered.

Bring it on - I have NFI who will be available @ 23 and who we will pick.

I'd like Ridley or SPP. But should Florent, Galluci or the like slide, we don't even think twice. Just take 'em

Agreed - Florent or Galluci would be ideal.

Looking forward to getting the good oil from you tomorrow mate.

Just remember that the hopes and dreams of St Kilda tragics (and campaigners) everywhere rest on your shoulders!!

Don't let us down...

I'll have to take it easy at PJ Gallaghers beforehand then.... maybe only 3 pints instead of 5?

Can u put up the top 25?

Just a tip for next time, copy and paste the title from the blocked window into the banner bar in google and it should jump the pay wall. It works 90% of the time.

Depth.

As I've said previously, unless we were going to be taking someone with a ceiling of Marshall, I'd rather we spent say our 2nd pick on some KPD depth, so that if we get any injuries to the likes of Paddy/Bruce/Skunk, we can move Carlisle or Goddard forward until they return. Or Riewoldt, in the short term.

Makes a lot more sense to me than spending our first pick on someone we'd be hoping we don't have to play much for the next 8 years, as they don't look to be an obvious upgrade on any of Paddy, Bruce or Skunk.

Yeah I reckon after Tory Dickson and those kind of guys were so successful this year those running rangy mid sized forwards are in fashion. He'd give us another mobile attacking player and we could even have option of running Mav and Members further from goal too. Will take 2 or 3 years minimum to develop at tall forward so by that time we won't have Riewoldt either.

Setterfield, Bowes, Cumming, Perryman in the top 15 makes for some horrendous looking phantom drafts. Basically they all have to take two guesses for some picks.

And we can't really look back on previous records too much cos the bidding system only been in place for one year. Although I think they all had reasonable strike rates last year with Mills, Hopper, Kennedy etc. Himmelberg a bit of a bolter from memory.

Quayle has a good track record though. She's got a lot of credibility

If Emma's Phantom is correct the Doggies will have done really well.

The good thing is we dont need this draft for our hopes and dreams. Our previous years are still coming into fruition

the only way it makes sense is if we have other midfielders over the line next year as OOC players

Or we have 2 first rounders to use on mids who are quicker to come on also. We have 2 new mids in Steele and Stevens and guys like Acres etc on the cusp. Also have players like Lonie and Sinclair who are playing midfield in the VFL who could step up.
For mids and wingmen we now have Steven, Stevens, Armo, Ross, Acres, Steele, Newnes, Gresham, Sinclair, Minch and Mc Kenzie. We have several others who could swap up like Webster, White and Mav too. We will probably pick at least one this year as well and have NOK in reserve with 2 new Irish runners. We probably struggle to fit everyone in as it is and we will most likely go hard at a trade or FA next year as well. I reckon we might look at a back man still if we rate Himmelberg, Rotham or Cox etc.

Very good point. Makes a nice change. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I think getting Steele along with Carlisle back (as well as Brown and Stevens) plus the Hawthorn trade has meant that we kicked ass before the draft. For example we can take that key forward and let them develop in the magoos for a couple of years if that is what we want to do

Next year will be an important year with 2 1st round picks plus the chance to pick up a free agent or, more likely, a big OOC fish which will be some of the cream that we need. Next year more pivotal than this year IMO

That would be Sam Powell Pepper & Shai Bolton (WA) & Ollie Florent/ and or mixture of Venables,Drew & Clarke etc

Or Rotham from WA and Battle is a midsize vic forward....actually it could be a lot of them.
