OK, only a few weeks to go now. What's your list of priorities for the first 2 picks and how do you think it will pan out? Who would you like us to draft? Who do you rate and who don't you rate?

For pick 8 I feel we will go for a class mid. If Hartlett is available he will be a Tiger, mark it down. Interviewed well and we love him.

If Hartlett is gone, watch for Tom Swift. I think this scenario is the most likely.

I know i was pushing for McKernan, but it won't happen.

I think as it stands the Tigers top 3 would be Vickery, Hartlett, Swift.

For people who don't know much about Swift, and I cant say i do apart from a sterling 3 minute highlight package and from what others have said, is that he is a 190cm WA midfielder.

Averaged over 35 possesions in the u/16 champs and was rated higher than Rich at the time. Highly skilled, quick and plays more inside than outside, but is equally good at both.

Had a knee reco on his left knee. A lot of people thought it was 2 recos, but it was just a minor injury on his right knee. He seems to have gotten over these with great draft camp results.

High risk, but would be MASSIVE reward would be Swift. What do you guys think? The guy is all class, I would like a tall but a guy that probably would go top 3 if it weren't for an injury which he is clearly over, I think it would be too difficult to pass up.

He was also vice captain to Rich in under 16's and people have said he has a great head on his shoulders and they have no doubt he is capable of captaining an AFL side one day. Also is an intelligent kid with various academic awards.

It may sound like I'm pumping up another kids tyres, but in fact I'm only seeing out the positives of a likely scenario on draft day. But from what I've heard its Vickery, Hartlett, Swift. Things can always change from now till then.

For 26 I'd like to go tall. Brown, Roughead, Schoenmakers and Cornelius all in the mix.

Re: Draft Discussion

I would hug you to.How many Mids Forwards Backs Ruck do you think will get.

I would be happy with either of these but if a classy mid is what we want why isn't Ziebell being considered?

Any insight in what we think of him Cotch?

Obviously I'm big on Trengove but I do realize our need for a ready made player and the risk of him becoming a Patto Tweener as well.

I think Swift may be a risk worth taking although I fear the dreaded Beau Muston factor although what I have read from Emma Quayle, Voss and the posters from Pearth he may well become the Selwood of the Draft

I would love Shoenmakers at 26, But I don't know much about Brown could someone shed some light?

Re: Draft Discussion

Vickery, Hartlett and Swift in that order for me. Unless we are confident of picking up a decent ruckman late in the draft, then I would take Hartlett.

Pick 26 goes to the best key position forward.

Re: Draft Discussion

I'm no drafting expert so I'll just give the players I would like with the first 2 picks going by what I have read about the kids from various sources.

Pick 8: One of McKernan(personal fav), Trengove, Hartlett, Ziebell would be fine by me.

Pick 26: If we get a tall with 8 then I would like a mid sized player like: Suban, Heyne, Shuey, O'Keefe, Strauss. If we get a midfielder with 8 then someone like Roughead, Cournelius, Johnston, Cahill.

After than I don't know enough about the kids to really go into detail but with both picks outside the top 50 I would love to get another tall KP type with 58 and then add a project ruckman at 74. Would see me a happy Tiger on draft day if we were to end up with something like that.

Or DeLuca?

I am starting to think he will come onto the senior list, not the rookie.

Re: Draft Discussion

For a project ruckmen what about
Zachary Clarke Height 203 Weight 77=Will turn out to be a good ruckmen in the long run I think. He has a good leap but is very skinny he also does not win many taps.

Re: Draft Discussion

Pick 8: Trengove or Zeibell

Pick 26: Schoenmaker or Shuey

Next Pick: Rhys Stanley or another project Ruckman

Last Pick: Gaertner or another project KPP

PSD and rookie: Fill in the gaps

Re: Draft Discussion

IMO our draft will be......

8: Swift
26: Schoenmakers
58: Best available ruckmen
70: DeLuca

Re: Draft Discussion

In response to elliots post about Ziebell, its fair to say his draft camp results were quite underwhelming.

Sprints and agility tested poor and beep test was, well, fair to say shocking.

I forgot the name of the test they do, but it's fair to say he dosn't have the lungs to run out a game of AFL.

Im not sure if you can work on those things, lets hope he does, very talented player, but I think that's what MAY make him slide down the rankings.

Re: Draft Discussion

But Junior Rioli had a terrible draft camp last year, especially beep test, and yet has turned into, thus far, one of the stars of the draft...

Exactly, you just never know.

Re: Draft Discussion

Draft camp results are taken with a grain of salt. Only the interviews are of any use in my opinion. Actual performances on the field dictate a player's worth.

Re: Draft Discussion

Aigh, completely agree Beaver.

*Edit: Unless they tell the recruiters that they are too slow...
And I mean real slow...

Re: Draft Discussion

Pick 8 we just have to go best available. The club will have a list of who they think is best.

For me I would have - of the blokes who may be available at pick 8 - Vickery, Ziebell, Hartlett, Trengove, McKernan, Sidebottom - although that's just what i have seen on youtube.

I wouldn't be worried about Ziebell's pace. He's an inside mid and many of the best aren't the fastest.

Pick 26 i'd have best available tall if we have taken a mid with first pick - Cornelius (although he'll be gone), Shoenmakers (he'll be gone), Tom Lynch, Roughead, Paul Cahill

and if we have gone tall with pick 8 - Suban, Okeefe, Hyne, Broadbent, Jetta

Pick 58 - Charles Sharples - we need a small forward or Michael Gugliotta - a Chad Cornes type midfielder - tall, can mark and can run.

pick 76? - maybe recycle Fabian Deluca or take a ruck to develop.

Re: Draft Discussion

More than likely, but some players have gun u/18 days cos they're bigger than everyone else but then come back to earth cos they're too slow.
The oakleigh chargers FF from two years ago who now plays VFL with Tassie springs to mind...he led the TAC goalkicking but didn't get drafted cos he was just too slow... (I'll edit his name in when it comes to me...)

Edit: Tim Bongetti

Yes but Rioli was drafted as a small forward to compensate for his lack of fitness whereas Ziebell is a midfielder/half forward where you would assume fitness is more necessary.

hey Cotch what have you heard about us and Swift? I knew we spent a lot of time with Hartlett at draft camp and Vickery has obvious ties with our club but this is the first I've heard of our interest in Swift( aside of the standard interview/ knee test)

Yeah, but I think in that case, his results would have only confirmed what recruiters would have feared.

that sounds alright. I was real high on shoenmakers, but the jason mccartny article on afl website says he's more of a 3rd tall ryan okeefe type instead of a chf type. that made me cool on schoenmakers a bit.

my preference for pick 8 is identical to yours:
vickery
hartlett
swift

in this order
