Re: Draft Discussion

Word is they are red hot on Hartlett RT.
When TFLUA made his choice last night I said if the draft was to pan out where we landed Hartlett I wouldn't be slitting my wrists. McKernan might be my personal choice but I'm not totally oblivious to the other talented kids around.

Re: Draft Discussion

would be very happy with hartlett too,
if i was brave enough i would even take swift (possibly best in draft)

if the big mac slips a bit more in the mock draft will you take him?

Oh yes, if McKernan is there at 26 he'll be my pick for sure. Not much chance of VC overlooking at this next pick though.

Re: Draft Discussion

Firstly, I'm not saying we'll definitely get Hartlett.

And each person has his own opinion on players, but my take is, McKernan is not on my radar for pick 8.

The club can disagree with it if they want, and you can too, but in the end I'll back my opinion to the hilt.

Having seen as much of Hartlett and McKernan as I have I'll be quite disullisioned if we pass over Hartlett, Ziebell and Sidebottom for McKernan.

EDIT: Are you implying I've only watched a highlights package? I've watched both of these guys 5 + times throughout the season.
Sorry didn't mean it to come across that you watch youtube highlights and form your opinion, it was more to do with the 95% of posters who use a 3 minute highlights package and then say 'if we don't get this player, I'll hand in my membership' or words to that effect.

I have said it on the D&T board and I'll say it to you now, I appreciate the time and effort guys like you put in to give someone like me some idea about the kids coming up in the draft. That is why I don't question the reasoning behind the picks you make in phantom/mock drafts, because you have gone out and watched the kids.

I don't expect you to change your opinion, I'm was just asking if you would be disappointed if the club chose someone you didn't rate that highly. As I said to yesterday McKernan is my preference because he fits a need, but I can also see why we would take a midfielder first up as well. Just a shame we have to wait 3 more weeks to find out who we will get.

We'll see. I'll let you know if it happens.

Thanks for your input though, highly appreciated.

Re: Draft Discussion

Probably cos' I don't like him much, he seems like an arrogant prick. If I was being 100% realistic, I would say there is a slight bit of doubt on him; he may be too lazy or too slow. He should be a gun though...
Rich will be the best player from the draft in my view. He's so classy, like Cotch just one of those players I can't imagine struggling with anything. If WCE get him at 2, they'll have an unbelievable midfield again a a few years.

Re: Draft Discussion

I'm no drafting expert so I'll just give the players I would like with the first 2 picks going by what I have read about the kids from various sources.

Pick 8: One of McKernan(personal fav), Trengove, Hartlett, Ziebell would be fine by me.

Pick 26: If we get a tall with 8 then I would like a mid sized player like: Suban, Heyne, Shuey, O'Keefe, Strauss. If we get a midfielder with 8 then someone like Roughead, Cournelius, Johnston, Cahill.

After than I don't know enough about the kids to really go into detail but with both picks outside the top 50 I would love to get another tall KP type with 58 and then add a project ruckman at 74. Would see me a happy Tiger on draft day if we were to end up with something like that.
totally agree

Re: Draft Discussion

Went Roughead with 26, and can imagine this may draw some scrutiny, but the KPP's go quite deep, and I'm quite confident in my decision.

Roughead is behind Naitanui and Vickery as the best pure ruckman in the draft, and is a worthy addition to the Tigers.

Top choice :thumbsu: I may be a little biased because he's from my part of town, but I reckon we'd get good value from him. Really what we need. If we got away with Hartlett and Roughead as our first two picks I'd be a happy man.

Considering my man went a couple of picks prior to yours I wouldn't mind getting Roughead. Addresses yet another area of concern so a handy addition. Like the way you're thinking regarding the final 2 picks of the draft, although its a shame we may have to wait until about Wednesday to find out who they are.;)

Re: Draft Discussion

Can't help but wonder, that with all the hype over our supposed "bungling" of the 04 draft, if some Tiger fans just want us to finally have the name "Roughead" on our list...:o

Re: Draft Discussion

most posts wanting to pick up a tall are about Mckernan
what are everyones thoughts on Lewis Johnston

my oppinion is based only what I read on big footy, but a lot of what i read has him as the second best chf in the draft and one of the best contested marks!!! I also heard that he can run through the midfield aka Pavlich

Again my oppinion is from only what i read

thoughts??

Re: Draft Discussion

Great pick TFLUA, I would've done the same. This is a fantastic draft so far for Richmond.

Also just another point on Hartlett. His value is a whole lot more than just his football ability. Is an all-round top bloke, loves his footy, and is born with leadership qualities. He's one of those players you could sit down with at a B'n'F and just chat away for hours. I can see no negatives in the selection of Hartlett, and it's little wonder why we are so keen on him. I doubt he will fall to us, but if he did, anyone would assume we had a top 3 pick in this draft.

That has nothing to do with it as far as I'm concerned. My priority is for the club to get players in who address areas of concern.

Re: Draft Discussion

names dont matter should always draft by best available to suit obvious holes in list ie chf/chb/ruck

Re: Draft Discussion

Yeah im surprised by how much he cops on this board to. He's was underage this year and had a great champs series. He has also played down back for the AIS and in the middle for his club side. If we take him at 8 we might have to wait a couple of years but it may be an inspired choice.

My only concern with taking Lewis at 8 is that I still think we are one A grade mid away from having a premiership midfield. Still we are a couple of a grade forwards away so it depends what people think is more important.

Re: Draft Discussion

Our midfield more than matched the premier's midfield twice this year. So did Geelong's in the grand final. The difference was up forward, even if all it did was give Hawthorn players the confidence to get it in there quickly while Geelong's mids stuffed around with it.

Re: Draft Discussion

I agree that our midfield has been able to stand up to the best but I don't think we should compromise our first round pick trying to fill a list need by getting a 2nd rate tall.
In my opinion the only KP players that are worthy of pick 8 are

Watts, Hurley, NicNat, Vickery, and Trengove.
With most of these seemingly "locked" at other clubs it looks like Trengove will be the only one available, Although with his injury concerns who knows waht our club will be thinking.

With the immediate impact an A grade mid could have, and what appears to be an abundance of talls later on in the draft. I think we must take best available.

the more Lace out delivery to our forward line the better IMO.

Re: Draft Discussion

pick 8- in order of prefrence

jackson tengrove (really like the looks of this kid could become anything, imo better then both nicnat and vickery would love to get him)

hamish hartlett ( after rich the best mid available all class grab him if trengove is gone and hes still available)

tyrone vickery ( unlikely to be available most likely to port at 4)

jack ziebell ( big body mid which we dont really have to many of could be handy)

steele sidebottom (very classy but doubt he would get a go in our midfield over lids ,axel and cotch but could become handy on the half forward line)

we should land 1 of those

pick 26- if we go tall first up i like the looks of mitch banner for this pick looks an exciting prospect. also wouldnt mind schoenmakers. if we go small roughead would be the likely option.

Roughead is a ruckman, hardly going small?

Re: Draft Discussion

I think he means if we go small with our first pick Roughead is the likely option for our 2nd pick.
